Tour started yesterday! DH and I went last night in Portland. GREAT SHOW!!! They had so much personality and chemistry. Their band is terrific, the set is simple but great (the stage rotates!), and they put on an excellent 3-hour show. Loved, loved, loved it. Carole looks fabulous, and I cannot believe she is 68! JT was amazing. It was such a great show, and the audience was full of appreciation. All of you who are going, I know you will have a fantastic time!

Thanks for getting me psyched, omom!

It was wonderful. Note Hollywood Bowl this event can’t bring in cans glass bottles or alcohol. I was ready to see my small box of Shiraz Taken/trashed but it wasn’t :).

Saw the concert in San Jose. We sat at tables right by the stage and got to meet James backstage afterwards. Nice guy, relaxed style. Carole is full of energy, very dynamic, great smile. The music was great. James still has that smooth as silk distinctive voice. They serve as backup musicians on each others’ songs. Middle aged crowd. Lots of fun.

I saw them at the Hollywood Bowl last night – fantastic! I was shocked when someone told me today that she is 68! She looks, acts, moves and sings like a woman way younger. Amazing. The only disappointment to some around where I was sitting was that she did not sing Tapestry. Other than that, everything you’d want to hear. Oh, and he was good too:)

Thanks for the reports everyone. Can’t wait!

mimk6–I feel exactly the same way. Saw the show in San Jose and had a wonderful show. Such nostalgia and the love and energy they (Carole in particular) exude comes across as very genuine. BUT, where was Tapestry? It was the only song we truly missed hearing.
Calgal, lucky you–do you mind sharing how you scored such great seats? Must have been wonderful to be that close!
It’s a great show–have fun to those who have tickets for upcoming shows!

I, too, wished she would have sung Tapestry. But it was so full of hits right and left that I didn’t miss it too much. My favorite number was Natural Woman.

I was amazed that she sung Jazzman. I have not heard that song in over 30 years!!! Wish KNX
FM was still around. Great concert.

The couple we went with are close friends with JT’s personal assistant, and got us in to the sound check (which I missed due to work), preshow reception, and backstage meet and greet. Hint to future ticket holders: The VIP seats were not sold out, and this friend had the duty of fairy godmother. She selected regular seat holders and upgraded them to the stage seats. She generally selected folks who were clear JT fans (wearing his concerts t-shirts, came early, excited). She upgraded one teen fan wearing an old concert shirt and his Mom, and personally introduced him to James after the show. He was a very happy young man.

calgal,
Thanks for the details - so glad you had such a wonderful experience! I got an e-mail from the Carole King site saying you could upgrade to tables at my venue for $750 per ticket. I promptly hit delete. I am in row 10, so expecting a great show even though I won’t be completely up close and personal.

Has anyone read Girls Like Us? I just started it. I wish I had jumped on tickets when they first went on sale. The only tickets left for our venue are the top priced tickets.

I finished Girls Like Us a while ago–my main reaction to it was “Good grief–everybody slept with everybody!” The music business was so incestuous then. (I wonder if that’s still the case.) More seriously, I think the book was badly structured and would have benefited greatly from interviews with the three women (none of whom, if I remember correctly, was willing to cooperate with the author). But there were certainly some interesting nuggets of information to be found–I was particularly struck by Carole King’s odd succession of husbands. Not a bad beach book if you enjoy looking behind the scenes.

I received an e-mail saying that they will both be on the Ellen show on Tuesday. I’m going to try to remember to record that.

We are going in 2 weeks! Cant wait!!

I saw them last night in Nashville. It was beyond my expectations. JT was excellent, but CK was off the charts awesome! This was the first show back in the Bridgestone Arena (formerly Sommet Center) since the flood and evidently it had been quite an effort to make it all come off. When we left, D & I were walking back to our hotel down Broadway and past all of her old downtown haunts and there was live music coming out of almost every door. Dierks Bentley was playing the Ryman as we walked to the concert. Nashville is such a wonderful place for this kind of experience. Someone earlier in the thread mentioned she didn’t sing Tapestry and that was true last night as well. That was my only minor disappointment. I had (for once) bought pre-sale tickets and we were close to the stage on row 10. It was truly one of those priceless evenings. Wish I could do it again!

Sounds great!

Carole is blogging a lot on Facebook. Maybe if all of the Tapestry fans bombard her with posts, she’ll sing it at the upcoming concerts?

They are evidently taking turns letting fans vote online for the third song in the second set. Last night it was JT singing Copperline. Maybe CK will throw Tapestry in the mix for her fans.

where does one go to vote on the song, 2vu?
