More thumbs up…we saw them in Charlotte on Wednesday (and D did an extra round trip from/to DC to see them). Excellent, excellent concert. The couple behind us noted that across the crowd, the majority of people seemed to have either white hair or no hair (they were one of each). My 21-year-old D definitely was in the minority. She took a “Women in Music” class and did her semester-long project on Carole King. She loved it as much as I did.

(I don’t know if he only does “Carolina in my Mind” when he’s here or not, but the crowd always goes wild for that one!!)

I don’t know how I failed to realize that the concert was THIS WEEKEND  here in Ft. Lauderdale, but after reading this thread last night, I checked the tour dates and found out that the concert is tonight! Only nosebleed section seats were left on Ticketmaster (about $80 apiece after taxes and ticket charges) but I grabbed 'em anyway.

I hardly ever go to concerts but JT and CK are the soundtrack of my college years – no way would I miss this! The only thing better would be if my college buds were right there with me at the show…

Do you remember the part in “Field of Dreams” where James Earl Jones talks about how people will come? We are all perfect examples of how we want to go back to what we think was a simpler, purer time and this concert is certainly a way to do that for 3 hours. Patsmom, enjoy!

Just saw CK/JT on Today show—they are just awesome together! I’m gearing up for our concert in a couple of weeks and have a question for those who’ve already been: Does everybody stand the whole time? Can you tell I’m thinking about my feet?!! I vaguely remember somebody mentioned standing vs sitting in an earlier post, but can’t seem to find it.

Panhandlelegal, don’t worry about standing–at least in Atlanta, this was not the case–although many people gave a standing o after almost every song. Also, when you’re sitting, it’s easier to dig in your purse and get out a tissue so people can’t see that you’re tearing up because you’re thinking back to your life when you were 20 years old :)

Was just going to post what dg5052 said about the Atlanta show (the average age of the audience was “we want to sit in our seats and stay awake for the whole show”), but I detoured first to the Today show website to watch “your smiling face” and “up on the roof”. Looks like Carol cut her hair a little since the Atlanta show.

My husband scored tickets at work…the firm he works for has a box at the Wachovia Center and we are taking clients next Tuesday. He couldn’t believe that someone at the office had not scooped them up. I am really looking forward to it.

dg5052,
So glad someone else will confess to tears at times during the concert! I guess I did already know that it got to others besides myself since D & I saw her dad there and he later told her he was tearing up during certain songs after she told him I cried 4 times.

jym626 - good description of the audience, but my favorite description was what Katie Couric tweeted the other evening:At james taylor/carole king concert. They r amazing. Most here look like they’re from a viagra commercial

They did “Carolina in my Mind?” Jealous…they didn’t do that in Chicago. But it was a fabulous concert anyway, one of the few in a giant venue where I’ve ever felt connected to the music. Loved it, and it was totally worth the giant traffic jam.

^^ That too, 2VU0609!. That, or a grecian formula ad.
There was a little standing, mostly for applause, but for the most part, everyone stayed in their seats- even the people with seats on the floor.

Right up by the stage is an exclusive seating area with tabletops, small lamps on the tables and barstool-type seating (those seats that look like they are shaped to hold one’s butt). The couple in front of us commented that they would never want those seats, because they had no back support!!

But many of us probably have memories of fun times with JT or CK playing

And Jimmy Buffett Concerts are fun, but, in sharing with the TMI theme, one I attended was overshadowed by the smell of beer farts, and when at the other, at an outdoor ampitheater, a guy snuck into the covered seated area where we were, and when we were standing up, we put the large tub of popcorn on the seat, and he stole it! Sheesh. I’ll stick with the geritol crowd at the CK/JT concert.

Saw them this week. Fabulous! Seems that Sara Jessica Parker was in the crowd that evening too. They beamed her face onto the video screens. And they did do Carolina on My Mind.

OUR concert is Tuesday night in Philly. Just wondering if anybody had any hints about parking to perhaps avoid the madness at the end of the evening. Anybody have advice from the 6/10 concert?? Can’t wait! Thanks to this CC, I got terrific seats!!

I’ll be honest and say that just reading this thread brings back so many emotions and tears flowing. I was first introduced to JT, CK, CS, and a whole world of music when my brother left his car at my mom’s one year after college to backpack across europe. He never came back. He found a home in Stockholm and has a life there he loves. I ‘inherited’ my big brothers car. It was full of music I had never heard (quite an age gap) and opened a whole new world. I was quite out of sync with my friends who were listening to acid rock and punk rock, while I listened to these artists who spoke to me in a way that I couldn’t explain.

My husband will tease and say our second son is named after JT, whose name is VERY close. When he was a baby I sang ‘Rockabye Sweet Baby James’ to him every night. We never made a road trip without several JT CD’s in the car…I have memories of belting out Carley Simon’s later song ‘Do the Walls Come Down’. To this day H can not understand how I can hear when I can point out when they are singing back up on each others music. To me that just showed to close knit community that these artists worked in.

At ever point in my life I can NOT remember a song I did not identify with relating to that I felt was written just for me. There was always that twinge of missing my brother as that’s how I found this world. I am so glad to have read about the book here. I will be checking from our local book store today, if not Amazon. We do have a concert date close enough to make. Ticket prices are a bit out of reach this year. Perhaps we will have our own tribute to these amazing artists!

Thank you for giving me the chance to remember and talk about my memories. I think I will make a request that my son learn to play ‘Sweet Baby James’ on the acoustic guitar I just got him. :)

I’ve watched the PBS version of them playing together and really enjoyed it, singing along with every song.
Like blueiguana, I first heard JT and CK’s music courtesy of my older siblings who are seven and ten years older than me. I got my own copy of “Tapestry” when most girls my age were mooning over Bobby Sherman! Being a lifelong Carolinian, JT’s “Carolina in My Mind” has always been a favorite.

The show last night in Boston was amazing! It is unbelievable that James and Carole still have so much energy, and can still entertain the crowd after 40 years! It was a blast! ;)

(Even though our D (who did not go with us) thought is funny that Mom and Dad were going to a geezer concert…)

Geezer concert !! LOL!
Thanks for sharing your memories blueiguana…There was a lot of that going around Wachovia Center last night in Philly. It was an absolutely incredible concert. Had awesome seats and thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. We took a chance on the expensive pre-sale seats (thanks to CC!) and they were worth every penny! Loved the ‘in the round’ approach! The people watching–also fun! Got there early and just went with the flow… There was an interesting age range—I was surprised at there were so many young-ish people. Not all Geezers, but we WERE well represented!! CK is 68 years young and she was SO belting them out!! JT is 62 and he put everything he had into the evening, too! Just amazing–the connection/charisma those two share! The back-up singers, the band, everybody just looked like they were having the BEST time!!
