They play two games a day. Winner of the two game combined score wins a “match.” First to win 3 matches wins the tournament. Could be as few as 3 matches or as many as 7.
@bgbg4us The first one to win three days is the GOAT. It is scheduled to run 7 nights so if one of them sweeps it I don’t know what they will do the other nights.
I predict James, purely due to the buzzer advantage. He is way younger than the other two, and milliseconds of difference in reaction time will win it.
The tournament was taped in December so at this point ABC knows how long it will go. I expect they will show whatever show(s) would have aired in the 8-9 time slot (likely a rerun). They are listing the shows like they would a sport series: listings other than the first 3 have an asterisk noting “if necessary.”
Ken has never beaten Brad in any tournament (other than Ken came in second against Watson and Brad was 3rd). So I would not really expect Ken to win this tournament (though you never know).
Brad has never lost a Jeopardy game/tournament to my knowledge that was contested by 3 humans. A big advantage James had was no one had seen him play (he lost in terms of when shows were taped before his first appearance aired). Now everyone has seen him play. His style was copied in the most recent tournament of champions and is being used by some contestants this season. I expect both Ken and Brad to use his approach.
I expect it will come down to Brad and James. Would be great to see it go to 7 matches with the winner of that final match winning.
I am an unabashed Jeopardy fangirl. I’ve been to tapings of the show. I’ve seen Alex up close and personal (what a fun. smart, and sincere guy). No predictions on the winner. I do think that at the end of the tournament, Alex will announce that he’s stepping down at the end of the season. They’ve already taped shows that will air after the tournament. Taping for the season ends in late April. I hope Alex can hang in until then.
Good week for Jeopardy fans. Not only does the first match of the GOAT tournament air tonight but a regular season game will air tonight at normal time. You get 90 minutes of Jeopardy (for at least the next 3 nights). Regular season has an 8 time winner (Karen Farrell) who been impressive so far. But winning at a “paltry” $20k/episode pace. LOL
@saillakeerie thank you for posting that there is both GOAT tournament and regular game tonight. This prompted me to check my DVR to see if my regular recording of Jeopardy would cover the whole 90 minutes. Turns out, at least in our market, the greatest tournament is on a different network than regular Jeopardy so I have to make a new setting. Others might want to check this too.
I didn’t know until I saw it in an article recently that the regular games air on different networks in different cities. For whatever reason I thought they would all be on the same network. Though it wasn’t something I thought a lot about. GOAT tournament is on ABC across the country. Regular show is on our CBS affiliate. From what I read, ABC had the last Jeopardy show that was aired in prime time.
Looks like its 8PM eastern/pacific and 7PM central/mountain on ABC for the GOAT tournament tonight. But check local listings to be sure.
