For those of you who don’t know from reading some of my other posts, i’m not from california, i’m from iowa. What are your perceptions of iowa? what do people say about california that is total bs?

just some lighter topics while some of us wait for acceptance and others til that day in september when the fun begins…

i think of iowa as being a really rural area! with really small towns and lots of land!

lots of people assume that everyone in california is super tan and a beach bum! unfortunately, i live pretty far from the beach! the closest is a few hours and i would never swim in it! it’s wayy too cold! i actually live closer to snow! although… cal poly is right by the beach! amaaaazing area :)

yeah i totally agree.
it’s really annoying hahaa
i’m from chico, and it’s like 5 hours from the beach, and like really cold, and not so sunny. i go snowboarding more than i visit the ocean ahaha
and the closest beach to me is probably fort bragg, and it’s absolutely freezing. like verge of hypothermia freezing ahha

but san luis obispo is like the epitome of what people think california is like, :D

haha nice… iowa is pretty rural, but i don’t live on a farm or anything… I live in the suburbs of the larges city (Des Moines), so its a ways from the cows and corn… No, i don’t drive a tractor to school… haha

many people i talk to think that california is all beach… i definitely agree with you on that one… I am definitely excited to be so close to the beach though, even if the water is a little chilly…

ahhh beaches are gorgeous no matter the temperature.
there is just something about looking out at thousands of miles of pacific ocean…it’s amazing.

i think in yuba city… about 45 min. south of where jackht27 is from… so i’m about 6 hours from the beach!

yess the view you get in slo is amazing!! i’m actually camping out at pismo beach (about 15 min from cal poly) during spring break and i can’t wait!! sandy beaches and poly parties for a whole week :D

i love pismo, i stayed there over last spring break…

i layed on the beach all afternoon/evening, just drawing and listening to music, taking photos of the sunset and admiring the amazingness.

oh yeah the little pier/boardwalkish area there is so awesome, they have like little crab shacks and beachy surf stores…i LOVE that place so much.

i know what you’re talking about! i went there one afternoon when i was visiting friends at poly last summer! if i remember correctly… we ate at a place called splash cafe! it was sooo good!!

lucky… mine say i won’t need it so i can’t… but i do know plenty of people down there to hitch a ride… but i wish i could take my own!

although, i plan on walking A LOT! haha my friend that i reallyy wanna room with next year is a crazyy cross country runner so we’ll probably we running all the time if we’re roommates! i promised her i would, if she promised to go down there!! she’s still waiting on her acceptance and it’s driving me crazyy!! i think i’m more nervous and anxious than her! hah

and i have faith in you!! :]

it’s just a shame poly doesn’t look at portfolios… because… just because someone is good at taking standardized test and can pull out a high gpa in high school… doesn’t mean they’ll be any good at architecture!

haha yaa i won’t have one either. it’s not that big of a deal though. everything is really close. you could walk to town and it’s not that bad, but there are buses that come to campus often that drive you to town, if you don’t wanna walk. and if you show them your student id, you ride free.

yeah thats not bad at all… i’m glad the buses are free. what’s the best way to get to LA? is there a train that goes to LA? traffic is just killer, but i’ll probably want to go there several times a year…

probably amtrak… they have buses that pick you up from campus that’ll take you to a train station… usually bakersfield (sometimes you’ll first take a bus to hanford then bakersfield) or santa barbara and then you’ll take the train the rest of the way. the easiest for amtrak and cheapest… would be to get a bus to santa barbara and then from there straight to la with a train. the less stops, the cheaper. it’ll be about $60, there and back. plus you can buy a special discount card, which helps out a lot if you’ll be traveling a lot.

just for you info, LA is a several hour drive from slo, and at least couple hour train ride. and trust me (i live in san diego, but go to LA a couple times a year), all LA is good for are the amusement parks and the Dodgers, and they get old fast. but yet again if you are not familiar with big cities it could be fun. just voicing my opinion.
