Kid vs. Adult - Your Favorite Ice Cream/Frozen Treat

Will they come to MA?

Not ice cream, but we just had dinner in Spring Lake tonight!

When I was a kid, Fudgsicles. When I was a teen, the local frozen custard stand, chocolate dipped in chocolate. I still love those dipped custard cones, but there are very few places around me now that do that.

I spent two summers in college working at a DQ and I think we invented some of the items made today - usually involving cups with ice cream and dip. I can still do a perfect twist if I run into a machine, like on a cruise ship, for example.

My favorite flavor now is Graeter’s Cherry Chocolate Chip, but unfortunately the one place that carried it no longer does, pushed out by house brands and non-dairy offerings. So I carry on with mint chip. Saw a joke online - my doctor said I need more greens in my diet so I switched to mint chip ice cream.

I just made a comment to my husband that we haven’t seen or heard the ice cream truck yet (there is one in our town that plays very annoying music). Certainly enough, a few minutes later we heard the familiar sound! Summer has finally arrived.

As a kid, probably either a small cone dipped in chocolate from the Dairy Queen up the hill or a Dilly Bar, freshly dipped in chocolate

As an adult, I’m not much of an ice cream eater, but the affogato made with house-made salted caramel ice cream I had at a restaurant in Beaune, FR.
If something I could have at any time, Kentucky Pie from Olympic Mountain Ice cream.

Speaking of pies, the hula pie at Dukes in HI is irresistible!

Our local Dukes (no relation to the HI Dukes I think) also has an ice cream pie. No mac nuts, but still amazingly delicious.

Just inspired by this thread to buy Jeni’s ice cream from Whole Goods @50% off. Hope it’s great! Blueberry lemon, I think.

As a kid, Bomb Pops (or Rocket Pops) from the ice cream truck.

Today, Yasso Bars - Mint Chip. My favorite though is (when I’m in Ohio/KY) - Graeters Black Raspberry Chip. It’s heaven.

There’s a pond in my town with a beach (they have swimming lessons and you can rent canoes). It’s really popular in the summer and almost every kid in town is there. In the afternoons an ice cream truck comes and sits in the parking lot. There’s a long line within a few minutes of its arrival.

I forgot to add to the original question–as a kid, I wasn’t allowed to eat ice cream. My mother was a health-food fanatic (she was a huge fan of Gaylord Houser), so we never had ice cream in our house. My brother and I thought it was horribly unfair. I did eat ice cream at the home of friends. I think I liked anything that was sweet just because I couldn’t have it at home.

I love a good chocolate-peanut butter or vanilla malt. (malt, not shake; the addition of the malted milk powder gives it that rich nuttiness that I love)

Among store ice cream brands, my favorite is Ben & Jerry’s. I have enjoyed many of their flavors. The old favorites were Strawberry Cheesecake and Super Fudge Brownie, but I haven’t seen those in a while.

I have also had Talenti (okay, not great) and Haagen-Dazs (close to B&J, but less ice cream – 14 vs. 16 oz. – and more conventional flavors).

ETA: My favorite flavor as a kid was the blue moon ice cream found at Ella’s Deli in Madison. I have a hard time finding that flavor anywhere.

We did a taste test last night. It’s It mint sandwich versus Jenis mint sandwich. 4 out of 4 picked Jenis.
As a kid my favorite flavor was strawberry. At the ice cream truck I’d get a push up. My teen years I liked a Neapolitan ice cream sandwich or a scoop of gold medal ribbon from 31 flavors.
As an adult I love gelato. In Italy I had gelato daily usually coffee, pistachio and caramel.
For pints I like Jenis peanut butter chocolate, I also like to buy McConnell peanut butter chocolate, coffee and sometimes the peppermint stick. I also like Rori’s peanut butter chocolate, the salted caramel and their coffee flavor. Rori’s is a small chain in some Southern California cities.
I buy ice pops for the grandkids and my husband from Whole Foods or Costco. They are fruit sweetened and come unfrozen.
Whole Foods has ice cream 50% off through tomorrow.

Because it seemed like a good summer flavor, I tried the Jeni’s mint chocolate chip (as one of my 8 pints). It was pretty tasty.

I liked several treats as a kid. Creamsicles, fudgesicles, cherry dip cones, etc. Homemade vanilla ice cream was probably my favorite.

My kids got a major upgrade to the snow cones of my youth with the advent of shaved ice machines. When we lived in Boise, a LDS family had a shaved ice op set up near our neighborhood that we frequented in the summer. They paid for their kid’s missions that way. Pina Colada was my favorite flavor. Grape for DH and Tigers Blood (whatever that is) for the kids.

My favorite adult treat is Black Walnut ice cream from Braum’s. I don’t know if it’s sentimental since it was my mom’s favorite also. When our girls were little, we were visiting Oklahoma and I introduced both Braums’ peppermint ice cream and Charms suckers to my oldest on the same day and she told me it was her most favorite day ever, lol.

As a kid, my favorite was a Creamsicle. As an adult, I like Haagen Daz coffee or Dulce de Leche.

You people and all this ice cream chatter prompted me to walk down the ice cream aisle at the grocery store today where I bought these:

Pretty tasty! There were several flavors, but I went traditional.

Our local Euro deli sells this brand of frozen desserts. Made in Lithuania! We really enjoyed their ice cream sandwiches which I bought because of this thread!
