Law enforcement officers and the mortal dangers they face while on duty

Texting while driving – smh. You’re not looking at the road if you’re doing that (unless it’s voice to text
). Not excusing the stupidity of DUI, but at least the inebriated driver is probably watching the road. Diminished vision is better than none at all.

I thought about this thread last night when the Special Emergency Response Team rolled into our neighborhood to serve a warrant. Two armored vehicles, at least 8 suv/trucks. A canine unit. They ordered everyone to come out of the house through a loud speaker, and told anll us neighbors to stay in our houses. Evidently they weren’t fast enough coming out, because they also tossed a flash-bang at the front door. Then our neighbors came out, he using a walker because he just had a knee replacement, three grandchildren who have been visiting, and the son who was the person in question. It seemed overkill for what was a very peaceful arrest, but you never know do you? And since the charges include felon in possession of a firearm they probably needed to be cautious. It was pretty terrifying for us to look out a window and have a cop looking back in! He wanted to tell me to stay in the front part of the house incase there was a chase through the back yard. It appears to be a domestic violence case. The neighbors are great people with two other sons who are doing fine but this one has been mixed up with gangs and drugs and in and out of prison. I have never seen that many cops in one place before. And they were in a variety of attire — some in uniforms with helmets and vests, others with just vests over shirts and jeans. I’m glad it went smoothly for everyone’s sake.

Teslas on autopilot have a tendency to plow into safety vehicles with their lights on at night. Luckily no one was hurt this time.

This is an older one. You never know what is next.

This could also be in the “Good things officers do” thread.

Good lord! I feel terribly for the suicidal man and all four officers. It’s amazing that they jumped right in to save the individual.
