LEAD Introductions--why not...

Right, radron. My acceptance is not based on stats. By revealing them, I do not want to mislead anyone on their importance. They are a factor along with everything else. I’m a middle of the road student. The recommendations, leadership, and essays are what positioned me for success.

I was almost waitlisted. I called them some days before, and they hadn’t decided what to do with me. When I talked to the lady, possibly the director, I guess she saw something in me because she said I was accepted. Perhaps that was luck. Or, may be it was testament that the person behind the application did have a place.

What was the reasoning behind the rankings of your business institutes?

Being in New York, Cornell had the allure of the markets. The industries and professionals in whose company we would be got to me. The close proximity of different environments said, “Pick Cornell. Pick Cornell.” Ithaca was an oasis from the hustle of the Big Apple. The Big Apple was an escape from the cozy trappings of Ithaca.

I would’ve liked Stanford, too. Silicon Valley, emerging startups and technology, the entrepreneurial flave - it would’ve been cool. It was too far. I didn’t bother. Then, Wharton because it was Wharton, Tuck for the tranquil and picturesque New Hampshire, McDonough for its international base and political holding, and Darden…well, Virginia felt right. I’d never been to the South. Virginia sounded good for a first-timer, like it was real charming.

Me…

Stanford–my current dream school, haven’t been to CA since I was still single digits in age and double digits in weight (I think), and one of my mentors (I use this word a lot cause of what it means to me)/friends graduated there

Duke–former dream school, mentor/friend went to Fuqua for LEAD a couple years ago, still considering going to Duke if accepted because of the past infatuation

Illinois–big time actuarial school, actuarial friend/mentor graduated from there one or two years ago, still kinda considering Illinois but not so sure after visit so a second trip in better weather and more exstensive could help me decide better

Penn–read that it is was the best undergrad biz school in the country, 4 weeks, then later I found it was the original SBI (might have persuaded me to put UPENN at 3 cause I was debating this with Illinois… toss-up)

Minnesota–homestate, actuarial school, General Mills, haven’t been HOME in 3 years

1) Stanford- Never been to the West Coast. I got the impression from the interest meeting & talking with the admissions counselor who came to orlando that it’s like a laid-back Ivy and I like that about. Also the prestige of Stanford, I guess

2)UPenn- Wharton.enough said.JK, but other than its one of the top business schools and it seems like the SBI that’s the most put together…

3)UMichigan- I love the wolverines and I have family that lives 15 min away from the campus. Also, I am a very visual person so I liked their website for LEAD.

4)Duke- I’m in love with Duke. Used to be my #1 pick. North Carolina is beautiful, and again their website seemed very organized

5)Northwestern- Another top pick for my colleges. i love chicago/surrounding area & a great business school

Georgetown- Political Junkie, never been to DC, awesome oppurtunity like the July dates
2.Upenn- Wharton- BEst Business School, 1st SBI, in July

Duke- LOVE THE BLUE DEVILS

Stanford- An hour away

Minnesota-think it was in July too lol

My mom is like-Is Penn State (referring to Wharton) a good school for lawyers? Will you get along with the people? What does business have to do with being a lawyer/politician? What is this again?

HAHA, I love her!

I was so hustle bustle about my app that I should have paid closer attention to the dates

but God is good and I’m in LEAD so no complaints here
def going to LEAD over the Howard program
even though I love both ideas
just that LEAD is… LEAD and I feel it is the best thing I can do this summer, out of those two

Private Joker I feel you- my acceptance certainly wasn’t based on PSAT scores or business experience!

Anyone going to the LEAD SBI at Georgetown?

don’t forget to send in your reply/acceptance

Of course not, Actuarial.

How difficult is it to qualifiy for financial aid?

I’m looking at travelling expenses and the LEAD to Wall Street program. If LEAD pays for travelling and take a couple hundred dollars off Cornell, my summer will be perfect. I’ll be able to travel to and from LEAD, as well as have enough money for the LEAD to Wall Street.

I need the whole thing to get paid poor for, travel expenses, activity fee, and the program. I got a fee waiver for the app so hopefully I get a full ride too

To Robocop:

I understand that you are accepted to Economics for Leaders program. My S got accepted into it as well. From the materials we received, it seems that the only expense is your travel, spending money and the dinner on Wednesday, no $125 program fee mentioned. Is that your understanding?

I was accepted into Economics for Leaders. The materials I recieved, particularly the emails, included the $125 fee. It must be sent in with the registration packet. Then, there are the travel expenses and other miscellaneous costs.

EFL is a short program, but if it has any semblance to the program that I attended last year and that referred me to EFL, it’ll be a good experience. The program itself will be rewarding, but then the kids will make it memorable. You really can’t loose with programs like these, and I can’t describe them because they all have a twist. For the inexpensive investment of $125, your S will enjoy himself.

Private_Joker, thank you very much for your reply. I read about the $125 fee from the EFL website. My S, somehow, never did get the e-mail notification. He get the registration packet last week and in the packet there are few forms that need to be signed and returned, including one that needs to be notarized of a parent’s signature. But no where indicates a check or money order of $125 needs to be included. In fact it stated that the program materials, room and board will be picked up by EFL and the only cost is the transportation and spending money. May be I need to e-mail EFL directly.

Have you looked in the spam section of your email?

My letters also went to the spam section of my email. I had to withdraw from the EFL at cornell which is saddening, but i am on the waitlist at the skidmore program, which is before LEAD.

We found the e-mail and it stated clearly that a program fee of $125 is required which is still a very good deal.

so I do have a MySpace but I cleared it all last year
but I’ll add any of my fellow future LEADers
so uh, PM me

uhhh so basically i procrastinate like no other & i haven’t sent in my acceptance thing just because… Like it’s all done I just haven’t found the time to mail it. now my parents are mad & we have to overnight it…fun fun

LEAD does not cover travel fees, right? I’d like to go to Stanford, but coming from Ohio would be expensive. But I’m only like 8 hours away from Wharton…but thats only good if I get in, lol
