Let's name the royal baby!

Agree that there must have been more wrong than this for her to commit suicide, but this is not just a minor incident. I think most hospitals have policies about giving any information about anyone. You can’t even find out in our local hospital if someone has been admitted. That’s kind of silly, because they will put you through to a patient if you ask for them.

However, the media involved when it’s William and Catherine has to be unbelievable. Press, papparazzi… She obviously wasn’t used to dealing with VIPs (why would Charles AND the Queen call together, wouldn’t they have a secretary do it, wouldn’t they call the doctor directly, wouldn’t they have William’s cell phone, etc.?). But for her it probably would have been a never-ending nightmare for at least several weeks, maybe longer if the baby were to be born at that hospital. A normal person would have been able to deal with it, certainly, but it still wasn’t a harmless prank for her (or for the other nurse who responded).

I don’t think there needed to be something “wrong” with her. Put yourself in her shoes. You’re a medical professional, skilled, well-thought of. You have one of the world’s biggest celebrities in your care. You want nothing but the best for her. And suddenly the whole world knows about a momentary mistake that you made, a mistake which hurt the person you’re caring for, a mistake which the world is laughing about. If you’re also a sensitive, perhaps perfectionist, person, then imagine the humiliation. In her eyes, she may have thought her mistake, which hurt the Duchess, was unforgivable. I’m not saying it’s rational, but I don’t think it indicates she was unbalanced in some way. I think it indicates she couldn’t forgive herself.

BTW: [BBC News - Kate hoax call: Scotland Yard contacts Australian police](Kate hoax call: Scotland Yard contacts Australian police - BBC News)

^ I agree, LasMas. I think sometimes a perfectly “normal” person can get caught in the vortex and in real time just doesn’t get the help or down time to think it all thru and not get stampeded into a desperate act. This is just too sad! For Kate, too. Who would want such a terrible tragedy surrounding their pregnancy?

That said, I don’t so much blame the Australian pranksters as the media that relentlessly broadcast the telephone recordings. In some I’ve heard, the transfer call at the start is included? Would that be this poor nurse?

LasMa & sewhappy, that was a poor choice of words on my part. I didn’t mean that she was necessarily mentally ill. You rightly point out that a “normal” person who is very sensitive, perfectionist, unable to forgive herself, or some other trait that makes it difficult for them to shake off such a mistake, let alone deal with massive outside attention, could be affected. The media circus that surrounds incidents like this can be overwhelming for almost anyone, the more so for people who are unused to dealing with this kind of attention.

Poor Kate. :(

Is it time to revive this thread?

I am hoping for Eleanor. H is hoping for Charlotte. (Odds are currently pretty good for Charlotte.)

All I care about right now is that the baby doesn’t arrive until tomorrow. Today is Camilla’s birthday and while I’ve warmed to her a tiny bit, I think it would be a disappointment for Diana’s first grandchild to share his/her birthday with Camilla.

I would love her name to be Eleanore.

My guess is that he will be George Phillip Charles William.

For a girl, Victoria Elizabeth Mary Diana

Should call her Princess Hope. And Prince Leo or Max.

But, of course, they’ll have to go with something with many letters and stick to pompous names. Circus et panem.

What about a traditional celebrity name like Blanket or Apple?

I originally posted this: (post #8)
Boy: George William Frederick
Girl: Sophia Anne Elizabeth
…but now I’m rethinking my suggested first name for the boy.

I’m beginning to think a girl will be Frances. It’s Diana’s middle name and Diana’s mother’s first name. So, it would give a nod to the Spencers without being quite so much “in your face” to Charles and Camilla. So, maybe Frances Charlotte for a girl?

At first I was envisioning a charming young couple sitting around thinking up names…I wonder what is is really like for them? Are they required to attend official baby naming sessions at B Palace, does grandmother provide an approved list, are they given a forbidden list? Too complicated for me!

My next door neighbor is British and she told me there are huge numbers of newborns whose parents have held off naming them until the new prince or princess arrive.

Eleanor Charlotte Diana Frances…I like that.

Yeah, those royals are so into their pompous names with many letters, like Henry, Charles, William and Edward. And let’s not forget George. Wow, how pompous and many-lettered can you get?

John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt or
Betty Lou Thelma Liz

If it’s a girl, Carolyn Elizabeth Mary
If it’s a boy, Philip Spencer Charles

But I’m not putting any money on it. Who knows who they knew and disliked when they were children. Which names you like, and who you’re related to seem to govern which names we all choose - while who we didn’t like as children seems to be how names get ruled out.

A tad of lost sarcasm? How many letters are there in the following suggestion?

Don’t you think that the pomposity (and the many letters) might come from the excessive compounding of many names … by the time they’'ll be finished with the process?
