Non-Chalant1, UVA is strong in nearly every area of undergraduate study. Major is almost irrelevant when applying to law school, but I think anyone would be better off having spent four years at a truly well-rounded school like UVA (as opposed to many of UVA’s peers). At this point you should be looking for schools that are strong overall academically and that you’d be happy going to.

Cavalier, you gave Non-Chalant1 excellent advice. Students need to be comfortable at the school they finally decide to attend. It has to be a place where they’ll be happy and successful.

I understand what cavalier is saying and I guess I should have worded my question better. I was wondering about the amount of internships that I would be able to gain as a PoliSci major at UVA. I already like most of what I have heard about the school and still need to visit the campus tho.

Yay! I got one and I didn’t even know that’s what it was. =)

Congrats! When was it dated Meesh?

Congratulations everyone. Everyone who received a letter should expect a letter from the Echols Scholars/Rodman/College Science Scholars Programs the 3rd week of March! YAY! (im a first year echols)

Dated February 15, 2007.

Students who get “likely letters” are not automatically named Echols Scholars.

That’s so true…I got one last year and I ended up not being an Echols scholar. ^_^

I’ve been vigilantly eyeing our mailbox for like a week for that letter!! And it finally came!! I was so surprised!! It’s weird, actually… that I actually get letters when I’m expecting letters to come. That was vague. Haha.

Anyway, I got a likely letter!! Awesome!! I love UVA! I can’t wait for April till it’s official. :P

I applied for Pre-Commerce…my stats are in the Official Likely Letter thread.

Congrats Joanee49! I didn’t receive a likely letter so I’m still anxiously awaiting the decision. Do you think you’ll definitely attend U.Va. at this point?

Yeah totally! I love UVA! I still have to wait for the financial aid award though… But I’m so happy about the letter… and everyone in my family is too. Haha. If all goes well, I’m definitely going there.

I’m torn between Penn and UVA, actually. No decision from Penn yet. So probably by April I’ll be more psyched for UVA than Penn, even if it’s Ivy and all that shiz. Haha.

And right there you see the beauty/intent of the likely letter. A student who may very well have otherwise gone to an Ivy feels a sort of loyalty to UVA because this letter came a month early.

Hi!

Is a likely letter = accepted?

likely letter ≈accepted

I don’t really like the idea of a likely letter. I mean, if you have my decision…send it. It’s called rolling admissions. If you don’t want to send it, DON’T.
But don’t mess with my head. Seriously.

[this isn’t out of bitterness. I got one. I just don’t understand the point.]

I believe that it is given as a greater incentive to go to UVa. If you are getting a likely letter, it means that you are someone that they don’t want to lose to other colleges, so they try to show how much they want you by sending you the flattering letter.

I have to agree w/mollypockets…I didn’t understand the point of a likely letter, either…but you have to go back and read the explanation that Dean J gives…IMO, UVA wants to keep the student interested and wants the student to visit, but it’s not a letter of admission…

I would be probaly be much different if I received the likely letter. I am just so nervous about decisions and if I get accepted to UVa then I’m definately go there.

^same…if i get in I definitely go
