do you all also call the applicants for the RODMAN SCHOLARS?
(and when?)

Is it harder to get into Rodman scholars than echols scholars or is the engineering applicant pool smaller?

P.S. If you’re going to comment, try use a name other than “anonymous” so it’s easier to address you when answering.

Let’s have fun with it! Keep it clean, but be creative!

Yay, I got mine today.

i got mine today. oos.

so the consensus is 500-600 were sent out?
and is it the belief that this letter is the “echols/rodman” consideration letter?

No one can make a statement like this and I’m not posting a number.

If you got one, congratulations! If you didn’t, do not read into it.

My guidance counselor did not put down a percentage because my school doesnt rank (Fairfax county) even though I think I’m in the top 5%. Could that harm my Echols or just admission chances in general?

They know that FFX doesn’t rank. That’s why when you look at the Data thing online, there’s a category for “unranked or n/a” and its in the ~1300 range…its pretty much all FFX students. If they really want to know, i’m pretty sure FFX discloses rank deciles for scholarships and such, so I would just talk to your GC and see if she/he could send something. I wouldn’t sweat it though, FFX has the most students enrolled/accepted by any county in VA, so they have it down by now =P

Many school districts are doing away with rank and few private schools provide it these days.

If we see it, great. If we don’t, fine.

Dean J: I see on your website that the likely letters are sent out in waves, and that many are still yet to receive them. However, do most accepted students not receive a likely letter at all? Thanks!

Thanks for the reassurance!

I addressed this in the other thread about this topic.

Deep breaths, everyone. Honestly, I think you should ban yourselves from these boards for the next four weeks. You’re going to drive yourselves crazy!

so if we didn’t get a likely letter, does that mean that we have less than 5% chance of getting in?

no not at all! why do you think that??

Nah, I think it’s more like <3%.

I got a likely letter today…it’s really exciting! I don’t know if I’m going to be able to go to UVa unless I get a lot of financial help, but I really do like the University and have liked it since my first time in Charlottesville (back in 7th grade on a trip back from Washington, DC). I’ve been back twice since then, and visited the university once…I need to visit again, but I don’t know if I will have time!

My S got a likely letter last saturday. Is he a candidate for scholarship? He is out of state and declared major as well. (pre med)

fall2007, the admissions office does not give merit scholarships. Your son is probably in consideration for Echols Scholar status, which is an honor but carries little in the way of anything useful.

cavalier302, Thank you for your prompt response.

fall2007, if you have any more questions about UVA, I can answer them. I feel that there are tons of reasons for a top student to come to UVA, regardless of major. BTW, “pre-med” isn’t a major. It’s just a status given to students who take an assortment of classes that US medical schools require.

Cavalier why should someone who wants to major in PoliSci and perhaps eventually to law go to UVA? Perhaps also minor in African/African-American history or something along those lines.
