Lilly Pulitzer Target store fiasco

“Do many people in California really wear Uggs with shorts?”

No one I have seen in the last few years.

No, no. There really aren’t “rules.” If a person is following aspirational “rules,” they just aren’t the real thing. B-)

My S who would react to Vineyard Vines with horror loved wearing various articles of clothing he inherited from his grandfather. His personal taste is more European/hipsterish now, but he still wears things like an old navy alpaca cardigan (that happens to be from Brooks Brothers, but that doesn’t matter, it is just what naturally evolved).

On the Uggs with shorts or very short skirts in CA- I used to see more of it a few years ago but not as much now. My girls always thought they looked hideous but to each his own. Since it is almost always warm enough to wear shorts here, I could not understand the concept of Uggs at the same time.

Pizzagirl- while I am not the one who wrote a post a while ago about polo shirts and shorts being “dressy” for an amusement park, and I probably would not have even noticed, I think my kids would have noticed and just thought those kids must not be from around here. For my boys and most of their friends when they were in high school, a polo shirt would have been considered “dressing up”. Not a lot, but slightly dressed up. Now that he’s on a college campus, but in a very beachy environment, he does wear polo shirts but only for work or something special. Everyday wear is tank tops, tshirts and shorts.

Whatever happened to all the Laura Ashley clothes you used to see? Is LP a replacement for that?

I spent pregnancy and early parenting years in a Laura Ashley wardrobe. There was a shop near where I lived in the NE. I bought a few pieces in London. I believe all the US stores closed, at least for a time.

Laura Ashley is British, urban shepherdess. Lily Pulitzer is American, country club. imho.

Indeed, I have TWO pairs!

I am amongst the minority that cannot stand flip flops. I hate having something between my toes.

Tevas are another brand of uber-comfortable, hard-wearing sandals that come in models with arch support.

I have those Crocs, too. I don’t like flip flops between my toes either and those crocs do nicely in all kinds of wet environments.

Being from Texas, I love the sundresses and boots style that’s gained popularity nationwide in the past couple of years.

me too, YDS!

This is the only place I know that would go from a discussion on Lilly Pulitzer to Chaco’s.

After the target fiasco, I went to 6pm and got a pair of Lilly shorts for $31.00. I think Lilly is cute but don’t wear much but for $31, I have a cute pair of shorts to golf in.

FWIW, Saks carries Lilly, and it is currently included in the 30% off sale.

I hope they never sell Belgian Shoes at Target.

Uggs and short shorts or short skirts were big when my D’s were in middle school here in San Diego. Rainbows are a must have for those of us that live near the beach.

Oh, I hate cowboy boots! With a passion! I don’t care how expensive they are! But that’s just my personal taste!

I’m not a huge fan of Lily, but there’s a store where we have a summer place and I’ve gone there during off-season sales and received a big discount on basic tops/sweaters (not those print things) that were well-made. I wonder if the clothing that Lily is selling at Target is the same quality as the clothes Lily sells elsewhere.

I’ve never liked flip flops, because they bother my toes. A few years ago, I found a really comfortable brand of flip flops. This the shoe: http://shop.reef.com/reef-dreams/d/1200

This particular style is cushioned and not as flat as a typical flip flop–I wear it on the beach all the time. I also got a dressier version made by the same company that has a wedge.

I like those krystal star ones a lot…if only they didn’t have the thing between the toes!

I wear cowboy boots as many days a week as I can! 30 years in Texas, 9 in Tennessee…

That’s why they make chocolate and vanilla! There are people who wear things that wouldn’t work on me, and I wear things that wouldn’t work on other people! How dreary if we were all alike …

I’ve been oblivious to the name till now. LOL.

i love flip flops. Not the cheap awful ones from old navy but nicer ones with arch support. I am so excited when the weather gets warm enough.

My favorites are my 10 yo Tevas and my bought last year Sanuk yoga mat slings.

It was just a lilly print. It was manufactured by Target. Not the same quality or designer.
