y’all, I had vowed to give up CC…then I saw this thread. My purse is 9 years old and my leather briefcase is 25–but, is the tote supposed to be used as the purse or the briefcase? And how long do these things last? I have birthday money…

Mine makes good tote when I extra things to carry - clothes for my workout, or items for a meeting. When I travel, I put my regular handbag right in it, along with a laptop and other necessities. Everything fits - it holds a ton - and it keeps my handbag off the floor on the plane.

I had never heard of long champ until it appeared on my daughter’s gift list…since no one in my area carries it , I ordered it thru Nieman Marcus because they not only had free shipping ,but free gift box too…and if by chance she wants to change the color, there is a store near here in Boston

Funny thing with the current popularity of the Pliage bag is that many have never heard of LC before this. It’s always had the reputation of a well priced, well made, classic line. I was a fan of their leather bags from way back. They marketed mostly to the big city department stores, but of course now everything is online.

And according to one poster, Longchamp tote is washable - leather and all! Inspired by that post, I gave my leather bottom Burberry tote a rinse using handwash cycle, and it came out just fine, too!

I purchased my tote (the larger one) thinking I would just use it on days when I was trotting about with my computer (in a neoprene sleeve) or kindle and various other larger items. I have found, however, that I am using it all the time because I am ALWAYS carrying a lot of things, i.e, mail, gloves, small container of cookies to give someone, dad’s pacemaker check-up machine, etc. Instead of fumbling around, I look like I am organized. And really, it has helped. At the same time, the tote looks sleek (especially in darker colors). I have a small, quilted, lime green zip bag where I put my keys, glasses and cell phone that is easy to spot amid the rubble.

The other day was extraordinarily stressful. I had multiple stops to make and I needed to drop off an assortment of items (aforementioned pacemaker machine and colostomy supplies) at various places. I put everything in the darn bag and off I went. I didn’t have time to style my hair before I left, so I plopped on a very good looking hat, flung my bag over my shoulder and received several compliments on how stylish I looked. Posture, attitude, and the right accessories will fool them every time!

So - my long answer is that while I don’t consider the tote to be a purse, we have been inseparable since its arrival and my usual bags are resting in my closet.

You got that right!!

Thanks, gourmetmom–I fly to Chicago a lot and I had been thinking a tote bag would be a great idea. Now if I can convince my husband to brave either Saks or Neiman’s on Michigan Avenue on Saturday!

Attention, Longchamp tote fans - there have been sightings of this species (the full grown totes ($69) and their baby versions ($49)) at Nordstrom Racks all over the country! I acquired a lilac-colored large Le Pliage tote, which will be perfect as a summer bag.

wnp2, I bought the exact bag you got – in bilberry. Lovin’ it.

and with my old Longchamps tote – the one with the tiny holes in the corners – after i ran it through the washing machine and let it dry, I covered the tiny holes in the corners on the inside with duct tape, if you can believe that. I figure it might let the bag have another few more years of life.

Doesn’t that just figure, Bunsenburner…that is the one I bought online from Nordstrom for my daughter…and paid a lot more :(

Thanks for the tip, BunsenBurner! I know where I’m headed Saturday morning!

QLM

I posted on another thread, but one local NR practically sold out. Hot pink only in large size, pastels in the very small.

Ok - I am pouting! Last weekend D and I were in Providence at the Providence Mall with a Nordstroms. Now I am back in PA about an hour from civilization. Well, that is a bit of an exaggeration.

Well, you can only carry one at a time . . .

^^^^^Oh, that’s true! Ok, I’m not pouting anymore!

VH - I love the bilberry color. I think it looks very dressy and refined.

Agree. It also matches my purple tweed coat from Talbots very nicely. (I am soooo damn classy!)

I received a gray patterned LC for Christmas. Love it. it is so classy. it has a large pocket and a small one for my cell phone

Two pockets? Awesome. Mine only has one, but I’m not going to use it as my primary purse. I was so happy that my tote was not crushed by the stupid mirror (see my new thread :)) - it was in the middle of the bathroom floor! I love it - so lightweight and cheerful, and it is MADE IN FRANCE.

I dont often find pocketbooks I like. but this one is awesome. and i do love all things french
