I find that most suburban Boston towns with great schools have lots of private school kids. Look at Weston for example. 50k try 65k for a day student and more for BS.
eyyy that’s where I’m from and I go to private school in Concord! Luckily not as stresed about M10 bc I have the best backup in the state if I don’t get accepted
Yes, we are going through the same thing. Picking up courses and electives. It’s tough but I feel like we have to keep our options open. It is very much possible that we get rejected from all the schools as we don’t have any hook- no legacy, contacts or anything. So better to have a plan B ready.
That’s also true. It can be very town/region dependent. 50k is a rough generalization- at every single GLADCHEMMS, day student tuition will cost more than that. A lot of people in rich suburban Boston towns are rich enough to own a house there and spare 70k a year for high school tuition.
I think these results can be skewed sometimes. Barely anyone from my public school system applies to private school (I was the first person to ask my teachers for recs in the past 7 years), but there’s a private K-8 school in my town that routinely sends kids to Andover, and 95% of the graduating class goes to a private 9-12. They make up 99% of kids who apply to private school from my town. (Not trying to act spoiled… living in one of these towns gives me a lot of opportunities, a great LPS, and this was only a small inconvenience in my application process. I’m in a much better position than many applying and very grateful for that.) Like I said, it probably can differ between towns tho.
Not from Weston but in a similar position!
I have a great backup but I’m still extremely stressed about M10 though
Your situation isn’t unusual. Kids who are in private schools have already exercised school choice and moved away from their public option and are much more likely to stay in private schools. Sometimes they move back into their public school, but not as much. And if their school ends at 8th grade, they are getting a lot of support in finding a home for 9th.
@wolfonic , my kid was like you. One kid in his class chose a Catholic day school, but everyone else went to the LPS. Our k-8 system did that pretty seamlessly. We also were doing the public high school orientation, class selection, etc. as a back-up and had to tolerate a lot of "but I thought you were going to private school " questions/comments. It was helpful, as was visiting private schools, in figuring out what he wanted his high school experience to be. And had he ended up at the LPS, he might have had a better idea how to craft that experience into one that might have been more to his liking than if he just marched through lock-step with his friends.

That makes sense. A couple of kids from the nearby private school ended up at the LPS, but from my understanding, it’s because they only applied to the top schools- the only ones their parents were willing to send them away for were GLADCHEMMS.
The comments are relatable. The transition from my K8 school to LPS is very streamlined. Whenever I discuss course selection or classes with my peers I always get the “aren’t you going to boarding school?” comments. No matter how much I explain, everyone seems to think that I already got in I appreciate the support but please save it for after M10! If I get rejected everywhere it will be that much worse.
Yay!
I applied to 6 schools, and assuming AOs go through applications at a constant rate, each school should have finished at least half of the decisions by now. 0.5^6 = .015, so there is (around) a 98% chance that at least one of my applications has been decided on by now, probably more. The anxiety is killing me! The good news is we’re over halfway done with the wait.
Oh actually! Me too! I think that the downside is that it’s much harder than a regular school so it makes it harder to get a GPA. But I did mention the advanced courses we take.

24 days… I feel like February has been calmer-- maybe that’s just me (my weeks have been packed though!). M10 is during my spring break, so unfortunately I will be freaking out with no wifi to check my decisions on.
The worries are starting to get to me. No wifi on M10? Happy Valentines!
Oops, I meant no wifi because I’ll be on a plane Happy Valentines Day!
Hey guys! Not sure if this is a good sign or not did anyone applying to Loomis get a course offering and senior matriculation packet/ magazine in the mail?
For those killing time while waiting for a decision from Exeter, there are some great (very unofficial) videos done by Kevin Treehan, a recent grad while there. They get noticably better each year, and I think Year Three is friggin’ masterful.
Year One: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfPx91N6lmQ
Year Two: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7-Pbp7K7_I
Year Three: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKblOXaKDC4&t=8s
These are great!
Guys, I know that we are all waiting enthusiastically and nervously for our decisions but I just wanted to say that I hope that we all get accepted and go to a school in the near future. I genuinely want us all including myself to attain that new experience and make immaculate memories, whether you’re a domestic or an international applicant like me!
