M10 2025 Freakout Thread!

You can always say no. The best thing to do is to be honest. If they are not your first choice, do not tell them they are your first choice. You can follow up with an email to your AO explaining that if you were to move off the waitlist your decision would still be dependent on your aid package.
My daughter got waitlisted at four schools. We said no to the waitlist for two. Said yes to regular waitlist for one. And said yes to Priority Wait List for one, which is her top choice, because that is true and there can only be one first choice.
Just be honest. Take some time to think about it if you need to, no one is getting off any waitlists until later in April.
In the meantime, we will revisit the two schools she was accepted at and she will make a decision to enroll at one of those, because it is unlikely she will get off the waitlist at her top choice and even less likely at the other waitlist she is staying on.

Sometimes if one wants to move off the wait-list after A10, writing a letter to explain why you would be a good candidate it always a good thing to do. Make sure to keep it respectful and avoid spamming their email.

(Also getting more Rec letters!)

wait you don’t get waitlist updates until after april 10??

I would answer very candidly – you really want to go to BS, you felt you would be very happy at this school, and you do not have any other BS options at this time as you are on several WL with no acceptances.

Can you say you will commit to the first affordable school that takes you off the WL? Perhaps a way to think about this is “if one school had accepted me with decent FA, would I be happy committing there?” You can say this to all (if true) and let your favorite know that while this is true, they are your first choice.

When students are accepted off the WL to fill holes in the class, it is importat to the school if they can commit quickly. Yes, in some cases, they will arrange for you to visit campus and shafow a student for a day, but overall, they are looking for – and will give you -’ a short window to respond. That answer, if true, puts the ball in their court to move quickly. And that’s every school.

So the most honest answer you can give about your willingness to commit quickly is what is needed. That is why you are being asked.

Thank you for your advice. This is helpful.

It really depends on the school, whether the early indicators point to them achieving their expected yield, the number of reservations for revisit days….some schools may also “finish” from the waitlist depending on early enrollment stats. My daughter was accepted off the waitlist of her top choice on 3/24 last year, but this seems to be the exception and not the rule.

i’m planning to write to crh every 3-5 days, is that too much or too little? my dad is gonna call the admissions department (idk if he should) and i’m thinking of more rec letters

That amount of letters will add up and become a little excessive but do you!

generally not until after decision or just a few days before (when they have almost everyone responding by..)

FWIW this is the same for college - most WL acceptances hear after they have committed to another school. Not always, and varies by school, but I would say that is true in general.

I’m opening my decisions in 10 minutes, when my mom’s meeting ends. Will update after

Waitlisted.

My goodness that’s a lot of application work! Congrats on the admittances!

I want to address this question. Which is better for what? The one that is better is the one that accepted you, but even if both had … Which is better? This is in the eye of the beholder, Is it based on reputation? Class offerings, Sport? Food? Dorm? One’s capability to manage the work load? school mates? Town? Geography? The list could go on and on?

Ask specific questions if you want to drill down and get some perspectives on aspects of each school or any school for that matter. Just going by someone’s vote, or someone’s perspective, a ranking, or your grandparents wish because they know the name, does not make it the best school for you. Go to revisit day, ask questions, dig in.
Weigh out the things that matter to you, your family (definitely not us on-line or the man down the street) then you will know which is best … best for you … and even then you may not know, but you will be informed enough to take a leap of faith. Good luck.

I would advise against Dad calling the admissions office. This process is about YOU and part of what they are looking for is maturity.

I’m invested… good luck!

Anyone know if St. Mark’s sent an acceptance package?

I don’t know what crh is, but if it is the Admissions Office, writing every 3 - 4 days is WAY too much, and could be a red flag.
