Cate school in Socal.
Apparently kids in my school transfer to private/boarding schools often…
That shocked me when my teacher told me.
My son was waitlisted last year (only interested in one school). Reapplied this year for 9th or 10th, accepted for 10th. I think flexibility helps.
Yes, we received a package from SPS.
We got the same question. Like, isn’t everyone going to say YES to that question? Geesh. It felt…I don’t know…manipulating. We ended up telling the truth: No. It wasn’t our very first choice honestly, but we got WL’d at the first choice, too, so…
Who knows maybe they just want to think they’re picking people off the WL who really really want to be there, or maybe they’ll appreciate the kid who had the courage to answer honestly/authentically. Probably the former, but again,
hill, taft
Thank you!!
An ‘I love you’ letter that tells your interviewer the unique aspects of the school you connect with and excite you. Also, express how you would contribute to their community if offered a place. it’s worth a shot!
They want to know you will take the place immediately if you are contacted. When April 9-10 roll around the scramble around WLs is significant when a school goes to their waitlist and finds their top picks have all committed elsewhere. So, by you stating it is your first choice you are tells them they should put you ahead of others.
When did it arrive? We haven’t received anything.
What they want to know is if you will say yes if offered a spot.
I really hate the “first choice” question for exactly the reasons you gave. And it sounds churlish to say “you weren’t my first choice, but you might be the best option I have.”
Really hoping your “true first” comes through for you and that the universe rewards your honesty.
Hi, I know this is a bit embarassing to say, but would you know how much waitlist applicants would Milton Academy accept?
Nobody can know this. Milton is hoping they predicted yield perfectly and it will be none.
It all depends on how admitted students respond.
Please read that whole WL thread - top to bottom. If you understand how the process works, you’ll have realistic expectations of what’s going to happen as well as actionable steps to take.
How is it possibel that some poeple submitted 6-7 reccomendations?
English, Math, Principle, Personal, Special Interest 1, Special Interest 2. I sent 6 reccomendations.
Does a special interest reccomendation have to be a sport?
nah. I asked my clarinet and piano teacher.
Visual art/architecture for my son.
same!!!
My heart really breaks for you as based on your posts, this seemed so important to you. I don’t have any unique insight to share, but anecdotally, it seems like schools award significant financial aid / scholarships to those that have a unique “hook” and fill a gap that the school has. I wish that were not the case, but based on stories I’ve heard even in local private schools, that’s how scholarships seem to work, so a sports team need, a spike in an art form, or a unique personal life story representation that they can tout becomes the focus. I only offer that perspective as if I were you at this stage, I’d feel lost and looking for an answer to “why.” Based on your profile, it isn’t about you in terms of your academic excellence or your ability to engage in the community as you showed you could do that in your interviews. The Rubik’s cube interest is super amazingly cool, but sadly, since there’s no team at the school, it doesn’t fill a gap. It’s unfortunate as it is all a weird system.
