are there any intl students here that went through the process last year??

i had applied to 7 schools and got WL in berkshire

I don’t know whether I’m excited or terrified

I can’t believe it’s only between two weeks since the deadline. Even crazier is the fact that the total distance between J15 and March 10th is only 54 days. We’re almost 1/3 of the way there! I think at least one or two of my applications must have been decided on by now. It’s driving me crazy

honestly im more of excited than anxious this time compared to last year because I am confident abt my application.

It’s back and forth for me… sometimes I feel pretty confident that there’s no way I’m gonna be rejected from all 6 schools. Other times I feel inferior to all the other kids my age who have cured world hunger and qualified for the IMO. This is also my first time applying so I don’t have a great sense for it. Best of luck to you!

Keep in mind that a lot of the applications here are fake. Lots of people are lying about their scores, ecs, and literally any random factor, for no reason at all. If I stalk any of these “crazy profiles” comment history for more than five minutes, I find a discrepancy at least 80% of the time. (A chance me with a 2340- and then two weeks later “can I get into Groton with a 85 overall? Should I retake?”) It’s more common than you think.
This is especially pronounced when people who got rejected everywhere last year post their stats. They often inflate their profile so that they feel better when they post their rejections/waitlists… you can notice this a lot in the 2024 Stats/ECs thread. I was scrolling through and feeling absolutely terrible and demotivated until I actually decided to go through some of the insane profiles that got rejected everywhere… and they were all fake.

It’s really demotivating to see these kinds of posts, but try to keep pushing through! I’m sure all of you are amazing applicants, and it sucks that some people are choosing to lie on an anonymous forum and drag everybody else down in the process. We got this!

Like come on. You’re super charismatic, all of your interviews went overtime, you had your essays reviewed by a college professor who said they were the best he’d ever seen, recruited athlete for 2 sports, been in contact with coaches since August, Math and English recs have been close family friends for years and were begging to write letters for you, USAMO qualifier, international cello player, organized a nonprofit raising 10,000 for the poor, wrote a NYT bestseller at age 10, National Science Olympiad qualifier, USACO Gold, president of a club or two or three, reformed your school’s curriculum, Scholastic Gold Key, Essay Commendations, FP, All A+ at a super competitive private school, 99 SSAT, 1500 SAT just for good measure… And you got rejected from the entire GLADCHEMMS and waitlisted at your safety school with a 40% acceptance rate? Something isn’t adding up here. I’m sure there are a few applicants like this every year, but exactly that- a few. It’s ridiculous to think that every applicant is close to this level, let alone every accepted applicant. Even crazier is to say that you can do all of this and still get rejected from every school. From Exeter, or a couple of top schools, maybe. But every single one? Like I said, come on. Stay safe, don’t let it get to your head.

Across the entire GLADCHEMMS, there are thousands of open spots, not even including all of the amazing schools which aren’t in the acronym. Even if all of these profiles were real… this forum has 10 posts a month. They would only take up 5% of accepted students, max. IF they were all real. Which they aren’t. And even so, remember that the students on this forum are probably above average to begin with, so this isn’t representative of the average applicant.

So sorry for ranting ya’ll… I’m coping with the fact that I’ll probably get rejected everywhere :sob:

i feel like these posts are intentionally demotivating and paint a blurry picture of what the ideal admitted applicant looks like, leaving us confused, this is why I stopped checking those chance me threads a long time ago, because in reality it does not help YOUR individual application at all, especially after the J15 deadline

Hello All! I am a parent applying for both of my kids - 1 to elementary schools and the other to middle schools. I know admission officers keep saying that they encourage us to keep in touch, reach out if there are any questions, etc. but, at this point, what can we really reach out to them for to keep in touch? What can be impactful now before M10? I’ve felt like I’ve crossed my t’s and dotted my i’s for all the schools I’ve applied to both for. Any suggestions? TIA!

I would say it’s not necessary to communicate with the school after the deadline, but elementary/middle school applications are much more parent driven and probably require more parental involvement. I would avoid being overly pushy and instead focus on keeping in touch w schools by sending out extra materials, updates, etc. If any of your kids gets an award, honor roll, or something of the sort, you should feel free to send them an email. Or asking thoughtful questions that apply to you- for example, one consideration when I was applying to boarding schools was whether the school had on-site allergy shots. It doesn’t need to be sucking up to the AOs, but if you consistently update them with information, or ask meaningful questions, it will show that you’re interested. Worst case scenario, as long as you’re not too pushy or overbearing, it can’t hurt. Hope this helps!

Yes!! I think it’s best to avoid them. Now that J15 has passed, there’s not much you can do besides let your application speak for itself. No point in worrying over other applicants at this point.

Hmm anyone receive an email from some boarding schools that they are still accepting applications post deadline date? Has this happened before? Do you think this might indicate that school perhaps did not get as many applicants as they normally recieve?
