Unfortunately, my school didn’t offer MUN until 8th grade, so I haven’t even got a chance to participate. I think I might send my paper because I don’t have other things to send for optional forms. You seem like you are very experienced in MUN, any tips for position paper? lol.
I did definitely large didn’t really like the student body because I overheard two students talking abt sneaking off campus.
Okay sure pm me!
You went to Andover Summer? That’s awesome! What was it like?
Do a lot of people go to the Summer programs?
I have the sense that they’re popular - schools are very clear that participating does not give any advantage in the application process, but it can be a good chance to take a school for a test drive (or take boarding school in general for a test drive!)
Did anyone apply to Groton? What did you guys think of the prompt “What are you most proud of creating or repairing?” I wrote about my FTC robot and how I spent a lot of time creating it. I am now thinking that it’s too common and that a bunch of other applicants also wrote on it.
I went to 2, and there were a lot of people there who were applying to the schools, but I more often met people who just came for the camp, especially at Lawrenceville where there were a lot of day scholars.
I think it’s more important that it is something you’re passionate about (like if you mentioned robotics/similar hobby in your application). It’s okay if others did something similar. I did mine about bioplastics I made with my teammate in science fair.
I have my second child applying this year. After going through the cycle 2 years ago… it doesn’t really help. If anything we are more nervous because we really want both of our children to go to the same school. Crossing fingers…
Are you comfortable sharing where your older kid is? Don’t know much about sibling preference, but it has to count for something, no?
It depends on the school and the child. We know a lot of siblings that are not accepted to the same BS
I am also on my second child applying, but this one doesn’t want to go to the same school as the older sibling, which is stressful in different ways!
I’m in a similar situation- my school has literally two clubs, only available in 7th and 8th grade: GSA and AAPI. I’m not LGBT, so the only choice I had was AAPI (asian affinity group) which I luckily ended up reallying enjoying. Still, I wish my school offered more ECs.
I think that’s fine. Lots of people will write about technical creations- I wrote about how I created a random number generator in my science class- so it’s not a super flashy or catchy topic, but it doesn’t need to be. As long as it’s something you feel accurately reflects on your personality/goals, your writing will be what keeps the AO hooked
All the 8th graders have to do MUN for history class, so it’s not an outside club. My school only offers a chess and battle of the books club, which are both run by parents lol.
Lol, I feel your pain…it’s interesting that MUN is part of your school curriculum. I think it would be cool if other schools did that as well- debate is similar to Harkness in a way.
SAME OMG. i was acc crashing out omg but after reading the replies i feel much better like they HAVE to know we are just teens hahahahaa. like on the deerfield short response (i SWEARR i proofread like 50 times) i realized i forgot to put an “and” in between the comma and the next word. but like itsss finneeeeeeee i tried my hardest
