<p>Yes, depending on how soon after the Finalist weekend you are informed if you are a recipient of the McDermott Scholarship, you may need to decide before hearing from other colleges. But know this, each year many students turn down or forgo possible acceptance to HYPMS for the McDermott. My DS accepted McDermott before hearing from other schools and he has not regretted it at all.</p>

<p>bigreddawgie - Do you know any Mcdermott Scholar who learnt music from any of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra members or UTD faculty. Trying to figure out the classical music scene in UTD.</p>
<p>I want to say that someone did work with DSO, but I cant recall who or what they did. There are always musically talented scholars every year. And some of my non-mcdermott friends were in the utd orchestra (not sure if it’s a class or something you join for fun)</p>

6 APs, 4 that I received 4s on, 2 I’m taking now.
An average amount of extracurriculars and a couple of officer positions.</p>
<p>I attend an international school in China, so my GPA is lower than what it would be if I had stayed in Texas past ninth grade. No class ranks either, but I was 2 out of 800 in my freshmen year in Texas.</p>
