McGill Class of 2009

not 4, only the first.

Sorry, Whats bcomm?

bachelor of commerce (business). I think anyone who is and undergrad in the faculty of management gets a bcom.

not exactly. Odds are highly in your favor that you’ll be put into one of your top five options for residence. And your options look something like

New Rez single

RVC Single

New Rez Double

Douglas Double

Douglas Single

or whatever. And then you can apply for room transfer if you want after a couple of weeks in your residence, and you’re pretty likely to get a spot unless you’re asking for like a New Rez single or something.

The only residence that’s extremely competitive is new rez. all the others you have a very good chance of getting placed into if you want.

I am doing Bcomm

hey people…i am about 80% sure of comming to mcgill

u can add me to list if u like…but i will be class of 2008 (since i am doing the IB, thus enter as U1)

i am doing the BComm too

moi aussi! So that’s 5 of us so far? 4?

I just got my acceptance today!! yay!

congratulations!!! :D:D:D

bittersweet, just a word on the french: you’d never say “Moi aussi”, you’d abbreviate it to “m’aussi!” ;)

yea there’s a lot of stuff I have to pick up once I get there that they don’t teach you in French class. Like j’sais pas instead of je ne sais pas. I think that’s why I couldn’t understand some people when I was there, lol.

that m’aussi thing must be quebec french…caz i been living in geneva for 5 years and never seen it written like that

Here’s a link to the McGill 09 group on myspace…for all of you addicted to myspace as well :D

http://groups.myspace.com/mcgill2009

haha quebec french is odd like that. A lot of weird contractions and such. It’s very interesting.

examples:
m’aussi instead of “moi aussi”
p’tit istead of petit
it is prounced like it is in english, sort of an eh sound on the i
ben instead of bien
…

the list goes on and on :)

ah, the wonders of knowing french, if only.

I must learn when I come to montreal.

Shouldn’t be that hard, I am almost fluent in spanish.
Sould be fun, knowing 3 languages, if I can get all the french I can.

i have no clue of french, i hope that wont matter…i’ll hopefully learn it when i get there…

or should i take a french course from here, before coming?

I’m about 90% sure I’m going, so count me in.

unless you really want to, I’ve been told that you neither need to learn french before you come nor while you’re there. Our tour guide (student from Boston) spoke not a word of French when she came and after four years still doesn’t speak French. I’m sure she picked something up though. So I don’t think you guys need to panic about French, but it’s always good to know a couple languages.

French doesn’t really matter. I speak french pretty well and still use english 90% of the time when I go shopping and stuff. Everyone in this area is bilingual, so it’s no big deal if the students only speak english. I have several friends who don’t speak a word of french, and they get along just fine.

Of course, there’s a lot of very cool cultural stuff that’s french, so you get more out of the experience if you know some french  But montreal is an amazing city no matter what.

Panic, no way. I look forward to picking up as much as I can
