Ok so on to introduction, I’m French, mother’s side, and let’s say you got a french passport, you pay the same price as quebec residents =D ($3000 CAD). Not only that but my father works for the U.N. which pays for like 3/4 of tuition and lodging, so prices aren’t too much of a concern for me. I’m fluent in french, but real french, so I might be in trouble when it comes to the quebec linguo. My residence top pick was Greenbriar, but from what I’ve heard it’s near impossible due to high demand. I really do want a room to myself though, I’ve heard of so many bad experiences with roommates.

Good to hear from u flo… :)

About the bad experiences with room mates… wht kinda bad experiences are u talking about?

O just things like arguments, thefts, space, chores, privacy, etc. all predictable and most aren’t too serious. But I’m highly independent. Also did anyone here go to one of the McGill receptions? I went to the one in New York, they also had them in Boston, D.C. and a few other places.

no, I missed the reception. was it helpful at all? there are always cases where people have problems with their roommates. It’s inevitable, but like you said most of the time it shouldn’t be too serious. It’s a great way to get to know somebody, but I’m kinda worried about things like theft and hygiene and stuff. So, unless I’m going to New I’m gonna try and get a single room. Why is Greenbriar in such high demand? You have to cook for yourself right? About McGill having large class sizes in 3rd and 4th year, I guess it’s kind of expected since McGill’s incoming class is so bright =). Although, when I checked on the website for class capacities on the schedules it didn’t look so bad.

i went to the reception in dc. it was pretty helpful i guess, but i had visited mcgill the week before so it pretty much repeated everything i learned there.

can i just say that i would love to be fluent in french with a dad who works for the UN? that sounds amazing.

bittersweet, ull have a tough time getting a single at New…

i want to go at New as well but im deciding b/w single or double…
i dont think theft should be a problem, im sure u wont get a room mate whoz a street theif… he/she must be a new comer like u …

anyhow, therz always the worst case

I want a double at New. The rooms are big and you have a double bed to yourself, so as far as I’m concerned that’s good enough for me. I’ll be more than ecstatic to be staying in a double room at New. It’s expensive though, so I’m going to have to work my butt off to pay for that. Yeah, I’m sure we’re not going to have a big problem with things like theft, but there are always a few people who like to share without asking and stuff, lol. I’m sure everyone will get along just fine with a roommate. I’m looking forward to having one. Makes the friend-making process a little easier.

I’m not worried abotu the roommate stealing, I’m more worried abotu the door staying closed and locked when no one is around.

I’m actually more worried about walking down that huge hill in the winter and having to go outside to have your meals. That and having to share the tv.

One thing you’ll quickly learn about Montreal… is that no matter where you are, you’re likely on a hill… and it often seems like you’re climbing up that hill, too. Its not as bad as you think–you’ll get used to it pretty quickly, even if you’re not a fan of such things.

If you dont want to share the tv, I think you can bring your own little one? Dont watch tv, myself, so it was never an issue.

This has been asked before, but can we get cable in our rooms? I would really like to bring my own TV.

I applied for housing at MORE i think thats a pretty cool thing with the commune style dorms. bittersweet, on teh website it says that the rooms are wired for cable.

This link should answer your q’s about cable tv on campus

http://www.mcgill.ca/rezphone/cabletv/

Damn, it’s only available to New Rez folk!

that really sucks. I so better get a room at New.

I don’t watch too much tv so I don’t care, just give me fast internet access. Anyone know the actual speeds at McGill, better be T3 or better.

T3…dream on…

about TVs…has anyone ever seen Sunday Night Sex Show with Sue Johansson? It’s pretty much the best thing that ever happened to me (well, actually that’s a lie but it’s pretty damn good.) All I know is it’s on oxygen, which I don’t get at home, but since its a Canadian show, would it be on basic cable in montreal…?

sorry that was really random.

It’s probably cable internet access. hope it’s not dial-up. slow computers kill me too. I have to have a tv. I’ve been hooked on so many shows recently and a lot of them have ended the season with huuuge cliffhangers, so I have to watch the next season. Guess that tactic really works.

you like the sunday night sex show? I think it’s kinda weird…informative, but weird. It’s like health class all over again. It is on basic cable in toronto, so it should be on basic cable in Montreal too, although maybe in French.

i checked out the list of channels u get in the new rez…i have to admit they are pretty crap (maybe it beacause i am familar with the channels in canada)…but certainly didnt see my good channels…most were local french channels…wat about the american ones…i only saw the major networks…abc, cbs, nbc
