McGill Class of 2009

ref the shareaza question, shareaza is better, because it can search and download bittorrent as well as guntella 1, 2, and the e-donkey (which includes bearshare, limewire, and the rest) . Thats four differnt protocals in one program! And it has no spyware, which is nice.

isohunt.com

the search function is terrible, so I recommend only one word searches though

yeah…shareaza gets me amazing speeds…as for torrent sites…torrentspy.com i reckon is the best for songs…cos it has a huge selection.

A big weelcome to the mcgill CO2005 to the newbies in this forum and a hello to the old! Well, I never properly introduced myself either, my name’s Avi, I’m Canadian and have been living in Qatar (Middle East) for the last 10 years of my life. Hometown would be Toronto but haven’t lived their for ages, except for the holidays. I’m going to be joining the faculty of Science in september and applied for a single at douglas. Never previously been to Montreal but heard about it a great deal from friends. Got accepted to UofT, UBC, UWO and Purdue, but McGill seemed to cool to reject.

Hey guys! I’m Sam, and I live in Vancouver, and like a true Vancouver girl, I’m addicted to Starbucks and Lululemon pants. I’m going into the Faculty of Management. Went to visit Montreal last year and loved it. I ended up turning down scholarship and a whole bunch of stuff at UBC, plus ditching my friends to go to McGill. But… I’m SO excited :)

no kidding, UBC was really generous with scholarships. Well, not THAT generous, but in terms of pure scholarships they offered me more than any other school.

Yeah I know! I definitely got offered way more from UBC than anyone else. But their commerce program really didn’t appeal to me that much.

Wow its like a thread revival going on here. We just got 7 new additions in 9 posts.

isn’t it great? It’s hard to keep track of who everyone is otherwise, especially when you can’t put a name to a face.

So, let me formally reintroduce myself. My name is Victoria. I’m Chinese and came to Canada when I was four. Live in Waterloo for a while then moved to Toronto and pretty much lived here the rest of my life. These places have really helped me decide where I wanted to go because from my early childhood experiences, or lack thereof, I had decided long ago that there was no way I was going to Waterloo, despite whatever double degree or co op business thing they had. I used to live downtown and I loved it, so I’m going to stick to the big cities and the downtown areas, and that’s why I applied to Toronto, UBC and McGill. However, because I’ve lived here practically all my life I wasn’t too keen on going to Toronto. Wanting to live in the big city is also mainly the reason why I turned down Queen’s and Western. So, I guess that’s how I arrived at my final decision. All of these schools are great and have excellent business programs, so it came down to atmosphere and environment, and McGill won. I’m aetheist, I like most types of music, I speak mandarin, english and some french. I love to watch tv - Rogers digital cable is my best friend, so I apologize in advance if I’m a bit of a hog for the tv next year. Speaking of best friends, my actual, you know human, best friend of 7 years is going off to Waterloo, but as consolation one other really close friend is coming with me to McGill, although he’s joining the faculty of science. I love hockey, although only watching it. I used to play the piano and violin although I don’t consider myself much good at either. I finished gr.9 piano, but I think that that only overvalues my actual skill at the piano. Anyway, I guess that’s me in a nut shell.

Yeah, its crazy. We now have almost 30 people, wohoo.

hi. i’m going to be a senior in the fall (attending high school in US). i know i want to study architecture in a canadian college (family is moving to canada). i just wanted your opinion on which school is better in terms of undergraduate architectural studies: mcgill university, university of waterloo, or university of toronto.
also, i’ve been trying to find out what kind of profile in architecture applicants these schools are (grades, sat scores, extracurricular activities, etc.) i don’t think they require recommendations, do they?
thanks

Class of '09- do we have to pay anything for books at McGill? It’s not mentioned anywhere in the giant book they sent us, the ISS booklet, or the “Welcome to McGill” Book. Someone told me it was paid for by the school through public money or something. Is that true? I really need to budget my money to afford McGIll and I need to include money for books if we have to pay. Thanks!

mildlyrefreshing, i think mcgill’s is the most focused and famous. you can fill out an info inquiry form and i think they’ll send you a general booklet thing and app.

I have a friend who applied for architecture, although it was for a school in Holland. I’m not sure if she applied to other architecture programs in Canada, but they wanted to see a portfolio of some of the artwork she’s done? I’m not really sure, but they probably want to see some artistic promise.

textbooks are not paid for by the government. It’ll cost approximately $1000, according to various resources. I think it mentions it somewhere on McGill’s site where it talks about the total expenses for the year. There’s also a bunch of other crap like IT charges, Copyright fees, Registration and Transcripts and such. I don’t think that those fees are a big deal, but they’re on average $200 each maybe? There’s also the health care plan, but I don’t know very much about that yet. I’m sure there’s a page on McGill’s site, so just search it.
