McGill University Class of 2028 Official Thread

Has anyone been admitted recently?

Received an email to submit end of semester grades.

Accepted for CS yesterday as an intl. student (USA)! 12 days after I submitted mid-year grades. Got into U of T today and they offered me a huge scholarship so I’m leaning toward going there

Congratulations! My D was also admitted to UofT with scholarship. She’s undecided where to go. She visited last year and likes them both! Now, she wants do another tour. Toronto is about 10-12 hrs while McGill is about 5-6 hours drive from our hometown. It would be convenient for us to convince her to choose McGill but we’ll leave that to her. Good luck!

Thank you! It’s going to be a tough call because I was also admitted to University of Michigan. I loved McGill when I visited and love that it has its own metro station. Montreal is such a beautiful city. Good luck to your daughter too!

Congratulations on having some great options @AcademicPea ! I’d love to hear what you thought of your visit to McGill. My daughter has an offer there but hasn’t been able to visit yet!

Sure, I thought the campus was beautiful but very different from American schools culture-wise. It felt like there was less of an emphasis on sports besides hockey. It’s on a hill and very easy to access other parts of the city. It’s definitely worth a visit if she’s seriously considering it

How long after you submit mid-year grades do you get a decision? my portal says: Further review required

There was a post saying that they got their decision 12 days after submitting their midterm grades. In my D’s case, she got it prior to entering her midterm grades. As long as your subject/prereq grades are above the cutoff, you’ll be fine. Good luck!

Thank you labradoodlemom for offering your and your daughter’s insights about McGill. I will reach out for sure. The fact that your D is now on her junior year, she can definitely share far more pros than cons.

Yes feel free to message me!

I have 2kids at McGill. One in Masters now (completed undergrad at McGill) and the other in CS/math. Both raised in US although dual nationals.
Both were accepted at UoT and happy they chose McGill.
Do not hesitate to DM me with questions.

Thanks you. How do I find out cutoff grades for US students? My kid has a 95 GPA and 1510 SAT

Hi, I am also a US student who was accepted! I have the same SAT score but a slightly higher GPA. Hopefully your kid is in!!

Requirements for U.S. applicants | Undergraduate Admissions - McGill University

Has anyone heard back re scholarships/ awards? DS’s application still says In Process.

Thank you. my son’s SAT is much higher than the required 1,250 so that is not a problem. I don’t see required GAP anywhere but assuming with a 95% he should be fine. Do they accept all who are above their min required stats?

Son was accepted on 01.03. He received a letter on 01.23 with a one year entrance scholarship. He didn’t apply for any other awards/scholarships.

McGill uses the 4.0 GPA syste,m as do US Universities. The minimum GPA and SAT/ACT (if submitted) vary by faculty. For Arts the Minimum GPA is 3.5 which would be a B+/A-. Not sure how they would convert a 95% but it would be above the cutoff.

Meeting the minima does not guarantee acceptance as they can vary from year to year depending on number of applicants.
