McGill University Class of 2028 Official Thread

Anyone hearing back from McGill? mid-year grades were uploaded February 19.

Decision on portal changed to: Reviewed - Decision Pending

From your experience what does it mean, wen will we know and how do they notify? email? Portal?

Hard to say when you will hear back! It means you are in a grey zone. They have all they need but have not made a decision. McGill admits from the top meaning the most competitive students are accepted first.

My daughter was Decision -Review Pending for a week then got accepted. Some will take longer before being accepted and some may get waitlisted. Stressful, I admit!

I am not sure she got an email but do remember she found out on the portal. It had changed.
Best of luck!

for sure, they actually extended it to march 1st i believe

hi, im currently a first year student at mcgill and graduated from the ib diploma program last year. me and my friends were also super confused about this and stressed out after ib results. mcgill will never straightforwardly say this but we came to find out that as long as you pass the ib diploma program, you’ll be able to get into mcgill! (just don’t fail basically). i was predicted a 41/45 and ended up dropping to a 33/45 in the final with 665 at hl. i still managed to get full 30 credits coming into mcgill because of my hl scores and nothing changed in terms of my admission. the only sort of notification that you will get after ib results are released is if they’ve been processed on minerva, but as i said as long as you pass the ib diploma then nothing changes. i remember being super stressed out last year so hope this helps!

Just FWIW, my son was in Decision-Review Pending for maybe two weeks and was just admitted for Faculty of Arts. He has a weighted GPA of 4.19, no SAT, US student. Now we’re just worried about the tuition hike and it may keep him from going there.

The government mandated tuition hike only applies to out of province Canadian students, not internationals.

(The government has mandated a minimum international tuition of C$20,000/year. McGill already charges more than that.)

Congrats. Did he get an email or just refreshed the portal?

Ah, thanks for that clarification! The international tuition I guess went up for other reasons (at least compared to when we started considering the school a while back!)

I don’t think he got an email, (he scans his massive list of unopened email in milliseconds so one can’t be sure) but yes, refreshed portal.

I heard back yesterday and got admitted pending final results. I know this means I basically have to maintain my GPA as it was during midyear results, but on Minerva they are requesting my high school diploma as well as my ap exam results. I was wondering if anyone knows if they mean my past ap scores that I just have to send through collegeboard or if they want to know the results of the 3 exams I am taking at the end of this year as I noted on my application I plan on taking them. Any info is greatly appreciated!!!

I’m wondering the same thing— if you find out let me know!!

Does anyone know when housing applications open? It says it opens in March, but it’s already the 18th and it still says on Minerva that they’re not offering housing at this time. It seems like they’d have a specific date by now for when it opens

Decision pending since march 1! seriously? I think it’s time to make a decison. I know how it works but really

McGill emailed my S24 inviting him to one of the “Meet McGill” events on campus, either April 5 or 12. The “Meet McGill” webpage at one point also showed an on-campus event on April 27, but now it just has a rather odd “April, 2024” third option (complete with strangely placed comma). Does anyone know if there’s still going to be an on-campus event for admitted students on the 27th? Here’s the page:

Minerva says the same thing for me!! My brother is currently a third year at McGill and he says he remembers housing taking a while so maybe this is normal?

Oh ok, good to know it’s not just me seeing that message! Yeah, fingers crossed it opens in the next couple days

So I ended up sending my scores from junior and sophmore year through collegeboard and that got the checklist complete. I reported 3 scores on my application but I didn’t officially send them till now so that’s what they meant.

Ok thanks! Are you taking any this year? I have 3 that I’m taking in May, so I guess I could send what scores I already have and then send in the ones I’m going to take whenever they come in?

Have you accepted the offer? We were at McGill yesterday and asked about housing. I was told that once you accept the offer, information on residence selection will appear but the staff at the Welcome Center sounded not 100% sure though.
