Can’t speak to UT but McGill does have a strong campus culture (though not like a US school). Kids live on campus for their first year and then move off campus. For students, the quality of life in Montreal is far superior to Toronto. Both of my kids stayed in Montreal after graduation (we are from Boston).
My daughter was accepted into the music program - faculty program with a violin concentration. We are very excited!!!
Both great schools but a vastly different experience. (My data is old but I did my graduate work U of M; son went to McGill.) U of M is very much a rah rah US school in a college town. McGill is very much a city school with a nice campus right in Montreal. At McGill you won’t go to see athletic events (unless you have a friend on the team). But there is still a strong campus culture and you get to take advantage of Montreal which is relatively inexpensive and so much fun. Restaurants, bars/clubs, music festivals, free public art…and it is incredibly safe. (Folks from the US cannot fathom how safe it is.) Both schools have top notch academics and are filled with really smart kids. Congrats on your acceptances!
Yep, I’ve accepted the offer and paid the deposit.
hello,
i am an applicant at Mcgill university.
They asked me to upload my high school transcript. The problem is, I am from France, so we don’t have such thing as transcripts,we have report cards for each trimesters, with our grades, and comments from each professor. Should I just upload those ?
PLEASE HELP!!!
go to the office at your school and ask them to put your grades (report cards) on an official letter or letterhead - that is what they are looking for!
Mcgill receives thousands of applications from France each year. You may want to email admissions for clarification,
Hello! I’m doing the IB diploma and I was predicted a 40/45 and got accepted in McGill. The only thing they required for me to keep my place was to “maintain academic standard”. Does that mean that I have to get a 40 on my finals? That’s very hard to do though… Or do you think they will be okay with getting 3 points less? If anyone knows please reach out!
Hello everyone. My son is admitted to the Ag/Envir. faculty which was his 2nd choice and is (still) reviewed-decision pending in the arts faculty since early February.
Anyone here who has recently got off the Reviewed/Decision Pending? Just trying to see if there has been recent movements.
Thank you
Same for my son. I called admissions yesterday and was told that this means qualified but that they’re admitting by stats. I asked if there’s a date we can expect to have an answer by and she told me this could go on until the end of May! Feels like a waitlist:( Disappointing as when we toured we were told that as long as he met the requirements he’d be fine. Applied in November as soon as it was available.
@BoyMom_X3 thank you for that useful info. I hope both our boys are admitted into Arts, and before end May! We have to commit somewhere and don’t want to lose deposits etc.
We dilly dallied and he applied on the original deadline (I think that was Jan 15 before being delayed to Feb 1).
Reviewed Decision Pending is a common term in Canada for interim waitlist.
Also in MA. D just committed to McGill!
No longer decision pending, my son got in now we want to visit. We need to make a decision by May 1 but website says they will invite us to visit at least two weeks prior to visit day and you can’t sign up for visit day. How does that work? we need to visit before we decide, we have other options that we are excited about
Congrats! Would you mind sharing major and stats?
Hey all - I’ve got a current HS Junior, who just decided to add McGill to his list, so I’m trying to do some basic research on things. Quick question for anyone, but maybe @FrenchCDN or @labradoodlemom would know - I understand that after freshman year most students move off campus. Is it hard to get off campus housing if you aren’t a Canadian citizen? Like would there be any extra hoops to jump through with rentals? We’re US citizens and I have an older son in college - when he moved off campus, even though he was of legal age and has his own bank accounts and strong credit score, I had to co-sign everything, which was fine. I’d be happy to do the same for younger son if he ended up at McGill - but would there be issues since I live in the US and my bank etc is all in the US?
I doubt there would be any issue- we are dual citizens but I am certain they will take your American dollars without issue- I have never had to sign anything for my daughter and she has leased multiple times. Very easy to find housing and not too expensive in Montreal. Great city amazing education! Let me know if you have more questions!
Quebec leases are favorable to the renter and regulated by the government. That prevents the often-exorbitant security deposits required in many US cities, but the leases are binding. And they will gladly accept US dollars. You may hear locals complaining about the high rents but compared to US and other Canadian big cities rents will seem a bargain.
McGill is a very open campus. An unofficial visit and tour would be no problem. Have you ever been to Montreal and the campus? Do you have specific questions that would require talking to faculty members?
My DS applied back in January and is still waiting. He called last week and they told him he would receive an answer in late April or maybe early May. Is there a deposit date in Canada similar to the U.S.? His classmate who applied in December only heard back from her second choice program and is still waiting to hear about her first choice. We would need to visit to learn more about the program etc. but I am afraid that we will be out of time. There is not a lot of information on the website. Does anyone know if there will be another admitted students day? If so when?
