I can see her motive for releasing these tapes. I would think Mel would think twice before coming near her to do her harm, much less even call her and threaten her now. He has basically been put on notice that the jig is up. Sure he could still snap, but I’m betting he’s watching his step and still has a posse of others that are watching him as well.

I hope she has a restraining order!

He was a threat to her before these tapes were released and now, with their release, he could go over the edge (even worse).

I don’t actually believe these things are quantifiable. It’s a turn of phrase. They’re both really sick.

When it comes to OJ’s girlfriend, I do find it materially easier to understand his actions than hers. I understand a jealous rage. What he did was evil, but it made some evil sense. Stabbing a person who broke your heart is the kind of thing that would pop into a sane person’s mind and immediately be rejected. It comes from the brain stem and amygdala; it is suppressed (or not) by the cerebral cortex. But wanting to be the lover of a man who decapitated his last lover? I don’t get it, at any level. Abandonment of the instinct of self-preservation seems, to me, weirder and crazier than acting on a base impulse. It’s alien, it comes from another planet than the one I live on.

She could have given the tapes to the police and her lawyers and threatened to release them if he ever came near her and he would have known he’d best steer clear. He would have also known they had evidence on him. However, now her daughter will never escape this. The Internet is forever and she will have to carry this with her. I feel sad for this child.

^^^ And the fact that each new release is more heinous than the previous one – she’s not just trying to protect herself and her child but is trying to win the PR war as well.

But to be clear: Mel deserves every horrible thing coming to him. Not blaming the victim AT ALL.

Please. people read some background on Mel, he has a long, violent past.
Mimk6, Mel’s violent past goes back many decades, so this episode is just another addition to many, many incidents, all over the internet about him.

I, feel “happy” for this child, because she has a mother who took action to stop the violence.
I’m sure Nicole Simpson’s children wish their mother, had exposed OJ for what he was, and perhaps she would still be alive.

FYI- Oksana has testified that she did not release the tapes.

And Radar claims they didn’t get them from her. In any event, I’m quite sure that it’s the website’s decision, not hers, to release the tapes one by one for maximum publicity. They had all of them from the beginning, since they were all described in detail in the original article.

More mighty Mel news:

Mel Gibson allegedly threatened to use his own “Lethal Weapon” against his baby mama in a fit of rage, an explosive report revealed yesterday, as a fourth tape of his rantings was released.

The crazed actor allegedly pulled a gun on ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva during a violent confrontation earlier this year, according to the report.
The allegation could be the final nail in the coffin for the “Lethal Weapon” star, who is already being investigated by LA cops for an alleged physically and verbally abusive blowup at Grigorieva on Jan. 6.

I have no problem whatsoever with Oksana taping the calls or even releasing them, if she did-although everyone says she didn’t. She is the victim here and she is in fear. Getting this out into the public is an act of self- preservation. He could go OJ on her- but now, he has far more reason not to. I do hope she has more than a restraining order as immediate bodily protection, though.

Who knows why she hooked up with him in the first place, but I think her motivations right now go way beyond money.

And unfortunately, I don’t think he is “over” as a movie maker. I certainly won’t pay another dime to see his work but plenty will.

And, for the record- he is not a Catholic! Anyone who denies the validity of Popes since Vat II and builds his own church in Malibu isn’t a Catholic. He is schismatic. He was raised by a schismatic- I’m familiar with the church here in Houston that his father attended and yes, they are scary weird.

Scary weird is a good description. I sympathize with Oksana, however it’s clear that some will question her motives given the release of the tapes to the press. Perhaps she didn’t release them directly, but she made them - and it would be quite easy to arrange for someone else to release them. Perhaps she did this to protect herself, but I just see that it would potentially make him more angry, and even more dangerous. Bottom line, HE thinks she released them. Not surprising. She might want to move to Russia at this point.

I guess I have a reaction to such private conversations going public, no matter what the content. This is now a circus. A very sad circus…but still a circus. He’s a pig and a very sick and dangerous dude. We all know that already…and we knew it before the release of the tapes. Am I the only one who thinks I shouldn’t be listening to this stuff? This is between them and the lawyers to sort out. Yeah, I shouldn’t have even clicked on it…but I did. My bad.

I agree that the tapes should not be public, but since they are, people are discussing them. But I’m glad she taped him in terms of her own legal issues because he was abusive and violent in private and without the tapes, she may have had trouble proving that.

(by the way, I do get your point that these were private, but I’d hardly call them “conversations”…but more a man in a rage)

People will certainly question her motives. I’m wondering if, as someone earlier mentioned, she may have altered the recordings to make her responses more clear. In which case, they would lose most of their power legally- if it could be proven that they were not “originals”. In which case her best recourse now for self- protection would be public release. I think she’s a woman who will do what is necessary to protect herself and her children. She has taken a chance that the publicity will protect her rather than the legal system. Given the results in other high profile cases of domestic abuse turned murder- I don’t fault her choice.

^^ NBC today show just had the country’s leading audio expert’s opinion that the tapes have NOT been tampered with at all.
He analyzed the tapes and states these are authentic!
She sounds so clear because she is nearer to the microphone.

Toneranger, doesn’t Mel Gibson’s manic rage frighten YOU, when you listen?
Wouldn’t you be afraid if that out of control tone was directed toward you?
Wouldn’t you fear for your children’s well being ?

I don’t blame her for taping the conversations. I also don’t see how they were released without her complicity. She had to have given them to someone.

Of course I would be frightened. I don’t blame her AT ALL for taping the conversations. She did what she had to do to protect herself and her child. I think it’s awful that it’s all over the press though. I have a strong belief that certain things should be kept private…and this is one of them. Some reporting of what’s going on. Fine. Actual tapes? Too much. Way too much IMO.

Have you ever had a fight with your spouse? Would you want that broadcasted and posted on TMZ? Mel is a slimeball, yes. I’m not defending him (who can?). But the press getting hold of this is not something I can support. I have a right to that opinion without being accused of not being sympathetic to Osksana.

^ Toneranger, I think these tapes are not just a “fight” with a spouse.

This morning I found this link which profiles a batterer.
I learned that they are often child abusers as well.
Mel fits all the criteria. Oksana’s life was threatened. The baby is being examined for a bruise on her chin. Oksana’s son is being questioned about abuse he witnessed.

I, agree, that bringing this out into the 'light of day" is ugly, but what was going on behind closed doors, could have proven fatal.

[Understanding the Batterer in Custody and Visitation Disputes by Lundy Bancroft](<a href=“Lundy Bancroft, Author and Workshop Leader on Domestic Abuse | Lundy Bancroft”>http://www.lundybancroft.com/art_custody_visitation.html)

I totally agree that it’s not “just a fight.” But this should be private and dealt with through the legal system. Let’s take this out to the other side of the spectrum. Would you want to hear or see a tape of someone being murdered? Perhaps if I was on a jury…but should that be on TMZ too? Honestly, it’s just atrocious that this is all over the press. There needs to be limits set. It’s not just ugly…its not RIGHT. And it’s not necessary for the public to hear it for her to get protection (which I agree she needs). That’s my opinion.

I just can’t get past the fact that he is abusive, he knows he’s abusive, appears to hate her, and then still seems to think he’s entitled to get some. That seems the most bizarre disconnect to me.

With all the heavy breathing he was doing, I wondered if he was working himself up sexually as he got nastier and nastier.

I agree there is a certain voyeurism going on with the public’s fascination and willingness to listen to these recordings. It’s like watching a train wreck or rubber necking on the freeway. We don’t really want to do it, but we’re drawn to it.

“That seems the most bizarre disconnect to me.”

There’s only a disconnect if you see sex as something entangled with affection and love. If you simply view it as a type of service she provides to him, like spit-shining his jackboots, then it makes perfect sense.
