Congrats! Are you in state?
Congratulations! How long after he was accepted into Swanson did he hear? My son was accepted to Swanson on Friday.
My daughter just got an email for merit scholarship today. She got 60k in total for 4 years. She is OOS, SAT score submitted, and her major is neuroscience.
Congrats! How long between acceptance and merit scholarship email?
Thank you! 21 days between acceptance and merit scholarship.
S25 got the email and letter tonight re: merit aid. $60k over four years. He’s Dietrich School - urban planning major. Submitted ACT scores. I don’t remember when he got admitted, but I’d guess at least four weeks ago, maybe five.
Very happy to report that DS received a merit offer last night:
Swanson School of Engineering
OOS
20k/year (80k total)
14 days almost to the minute after the acceptance email
Also, does anyone have a sense of what the standard/high/highest merit awards are for this cycle? I have three children. My oldest was offered a full-ride in fall, 2015; my next was offered full-tuition only in fall, 2019. Their records were almost identical (if anything, DS20 was higher). I have heard that the amount of merit aid offered has decreased over the years as Pitt gets more and more competitive, but I only have anecdotal evidence.
(I do not mean to sound ungrateful, just curious; Pitt is amazingly generous especially in today’s world of tuitions.)
FWIW, my S22, also a Swanson applicant, received an offer of $20k/yr. At least for that go round, it seemed like the engineering school students got the highest merit awards, typically more than those given to students applying to other colleges, and I didn’t see anything more than that that year. Really just one more piece of anecdotal evidence, but that’s what I’ve got.
We are still waiting for a decision (applied early August and similar stats to those already accepted and received merit). For those who have done this before - If accepted, do merits also come with decision - especially since the decision hasn’t been out yet or do they tend to “run out” of merit? Advice we have gotten is apply early to get merit and we did but still no response.
In our case, merit came a couple weeks after the decision. Since your child applied early August with great stats, it might be sensible to call the Admissions office and gently inquire if everything is complete to review?
My D25 got accepted on 9/30, received scholarship email on 10/15 however the scholarship letter on the portal was dated 9/30.
My S24 was accepted in October and didn’t get a merit offer until March. There were some others like that, and many cases where it at least took some number of weeks before the merit offer showed up.
As we speculated last year, it appears Pitt has a sophisticated approach to merit which is likely calculated to most efficiently affect yield. So it is not like those colleges where they make it clear if you meet higher academic standards you will get a higher offer. Instead, they could be potentially looking at anything they think could affect yield, and allocating their merit offers accordingly.
And given the long delay for some applicants (my S24 was not alone), it appears this is also a dynamic process.
All this is interesting but the practical upshot is you really don’t know when you might get a merit offer or how much it will be.
Very happy to report that D25, accepted to Dietrich on 9/27, received a merit offer last night of $20k per year. High GPA, lots of APs, high test score.
Congrats! That is amazing! Are you in state? We are in state. My D25 was also accepted to Dietrich (on 10/9), and we are anxiously awaiting merit info.
C25 applied 10/8 to Dietrich OOS, was accepted 10/23, but email notification of acceptance didn’t arrive until today 10/31. No merit (yet
)
DS application complete 9/27.
Under review 9/30
Accepted to Swanson 10/15
Merit notification 10/31
OOS 4/4.63 1540 (770/770)- $20k/year
Good luck to everyone and H2P
@GHRPa25 @collegeboundin25 we are OOS
Do merit offers come in after committing to Pitt or prior? Do you apply for merit or is it automatic consideration?
Welcome nmallina! Merit offers come in before committing to Pitt. It is an automatic consideration (though there may also be some application programs later).
I believe merit isn’t something you apply for, and is offered before admission, it’s a bribe to get students to commit.
