Accepted Thanksgiving Day!
When did they send in their app?
10/28 in state, it seems to take longer this year than 3 years ago. But I think OOS get response faster.
DD applied 10/28 OOS and was admitted Thanksgiving Day to Exploring Business Preference with Presidential Scholarship and Presidential Study Abroad.
Anyone āin stateā get honors invite yet?
D25 was accepted yesterday (Monday Dec 2nd) to MSU for biology. OOS, 4.0 UW GPA, 34 ACT, 6 APs total (2 currently taking), 8 dual enrollment. Do not know whether there were any scholarships, etc.
Congrats.
It wasnāt immediately clear based on the portal layout but there is a small button that says 'Financial Aid and Scholarships" and on that page it will list what, if any, merit aid your student would get.
Excellent info, thank you! I will let her know that and will report back what may or may not be there.
She did receive the Presidential Scholarship and Study Abroad scholarship as well. Iāve not heard from her anything regarding the honors college.
Hi guys! High school senior here! Iāve been accepted to JMC, with the Presidential Scholarship, but have not received anything about Honors College (OOS). I was accepted on 10/16. Is it too late to hear back? Itās been roughly 6.5 weeks now thanks!
Stats:
1320 SAT
3.95 UW; 4.315 W
Bunch of ECs
2/3 APS my school offers.
Hi- my son is in the same situation. Received JMC acceptance with Presidential scholarship and study abroad 10/25. Someone above posted that it can be 6-8 weeks later so fingers crossed!
I believe the requirements for Honors College are GPA in the top 5% of their class and SAT 1450 minimum.
My son got in with a 31 ACT. He has a better score now but we didnāt send it in because he had already been admitted.
Hello! Is housing an issue at MSU? Is it better to do a deposit immediately to hold it? My older daughter goes to Texas and housing is not guaranteed so we had to put a deposit down before she accepted to secure a spot. Thanks!
My sonās a junior and in the past it wasnāt an issue getting housing. They do a lot of transitional housing where 3 kids are in a double but I donāt think where you land is based on when you put the deposit down.
My sonās in his 3rd year at MSU. Housing is guaranteed, but maybe not in the living learning community preferred. Freshman canāt even have a car (unless somethingās changed). There can be temporary shortages, but donāt worry, you donāt have to race to get a spot.
Housing is guaranteed, my son is a junior and did have a small problem sophomore year, but only because he forgot to sign his housing contract on time. But they still put him in a dorm on time and later moved him to his residential college.
I know that last year some people put a deposit later and were put on a wait list for Lyman Briggs.
This year MSU is guaranteeing admission for all MI applicants that apply early and to a residential college (certain GPA applies), so (purely speculating) there might be some shortage of rooms at JMC and Lyman Briggs. Although, surprisingly, many applicants do not even know what a residential college is. Just in case, my D25 put her deposit for LB as soon as she got accepted. But if you are not applying to a residential college, I am pretty sure they have enough space
Thank you for the helpful info on housing. It looks like we have time if she attends MSU. Sheās out of state and majoring in Integrated Science Secondary Education so it falls under the school of Ed so I donāt think she will be doing a residential/live & learn housing. Sheās also minoring in dance so we will try to map out the buildings a little too. Thanks!
I just realized I donāt think we knew anything about this before my S25 applied. I feel like this is the type of thing that my S25 likes at the smaller schools he has applied to - I just donāt think he knew about it or maybe wasnāt paying close enough attention if they talked about it when he toured. (I didnāt tour with him - I was entertaining younger siblings while my husband went on the tour with S25). I wonder if it is still possible to apply to Lyman Briggs after being accepted in general? My S25 was accepted for the Advanced Mathematics major and offered honors as well.
I think you can, most kids do not start accepting until at least March. Have him contact LB and also, I think he can just change his major right in the admissions portal. As LB admissions are on first come first served basis you should not have any problem. It is still early. I would highly recommend a residential college. My S22 is having a great experience at James Madison. Smaller classes, more personal relationships with professors and counselors. Like this year, he was having a hard time in a class and skipped a few lectures and was considering dropping it. His professor actually went to see his counselor to make sure my son was ok. She emailed my son, and they got him back on track. They also sort of keep tabs on them during freshman year. They really want those kids to succeed, we never feel he is just a number there. JMC (not sure about LB) also has a mentorship program where you are matched with a faculty member. I am hoping LB has something similar. It also makes it so much better during winter when most of your classes are in the same building as your dorm. Plus, I heard Holmes (Lyman Briggs dorm) is the only dorm where you can get a full night sleep, LOL.
