07Dad, good for you for trying to keep the discussion civil. Can we all agree on one thing? Do we agree that Tina Turner has the Best Legs Ever?

Tina is Simply the Best, better than all the rest . . . . .

As far as I can tell she did not whine and moan about the unfairness of anything that happened to her. She did what she needed to do and is truly a treasure.

I would suggest statements like this:

do not aid in healing and moving forward. When you have an open wound, 07DAD, should I tell you not to whine and moan, buck up, and treat you with disdain? I might encourage you to do what you need to do to get better, but I don’t think trying to silence you and look down on you for hurting is the solution.

As an addict in recovery (30 years this December), it does not help to whine and moan about what is outside you nor does it matter how you treat me or if you look down on me. It is about me making my decisions and commitments to myself and keeping them.

Thanks for the explanation of your point of view, 07DAD.

No problem.

That is a stupid and offensive post. Do you know anything about Billy Ray? He has his flaws, but I can assure you that this is NOT what he wants for his daughter.

"While mass media backlash against Miley Cyrus is solely directed at Miley Cyrus, the big picture is completely being missed (or ignored). If “observers” and “critics” took their faces out of her bony behind and took a step back, they would maybe see what is truly happening: Miley Cyrus is, more than ever, owned and controlled by Disney. Her image, her music and her performance is fully determined by her handlers. For some sick reason, she was chosen this year to embarrass herself and to traumatize all of the young people who grew up watching her. Miley was offered as a “sacrifice” to the public while adding to the complete breakdown of popular culture. Her performance was choreographed and staged to be as annoying and distasteful as possible. From the bratty hair, to the unflattering outfit, to the constant sticking out of the tongue, to the obsession with “twerking” without having the physical attributes to pull it off…it was all planned to **** the world off.

While the masses are laughing and pointing at Miley Cyrus, those who handle her are laughing and pointing at the masses…because they’re falling right into this sick humiliation process. While I am not looking to add to the Miley Cyrus noise, someone needs to say it: She’s a puppet and we need to look at those who are pulling the strings. We also need to look at what they are doing to people such as Miley Cyrus and, more importantly, to our youth in general. This is not about a single girl who lost her way, it is about a system making the world lose its way."

I agree with MOWC, where did that come from? I can imagine that a 20 year old celeb with a net worth of $120+ million is in for a fairly rough few years (if she is lucky).

I have my fingers crossed for Emma Watson.

Thanks hugcheck. I really feel for these young performers who end up so lost, surrounded by middle aged men playing out their OWN fantasy. Alanis Morrisette has talked about this.

Miley is in the process of finding herself and I wish, like Foster, Portman and Shields, she had gone off to do this in college.

I mostly agree with #190 except to note that Miley could have chosen not to play their game. I don’t how one can put all the balme on handlers. It is ultimately up to her, I would think.

Stockholm syndrome. How old was she when she started?

Miley Cyrus, the poor, manipulated victim. Forced to humiliate herself… by Disney. Next they’ll be forcing her to shoot up heroin, poor dear. While her sweet father thanks his blessings and praises God, instead of expressing his sadness and horror. We should all be publicly gyrating in solidarity with this poor sweet thing, instead of mocking her. This is all societies fault!

I do want to circle back on the issue of feminism and the African American woman.

I am a white female attorney. I remember, in about 1993, a (very nice) male partner at my firm telling me that there was no more gender discrimination. That made me realize that unless one is in the affected group, one is likely to be clueless on many issues.

So keep informing us and I’ll listen.

Hugcheck’s link is to a website called “The Vigilant Citizen,” and it purports to expose the occult powers behind current events. Here’s a quote: To understand the world we live in, we must understand the symbols surrounding us. To understand those symbols, we must dig up their origin, which are often deeply hidden in occult mysteries. In short, this site aims to go beyond the face value of symbols found in pop culture to reveal their esoteric meaning.

HotCanary-- also Disney distanced itself from MC when she did the pole dance years ago. Hanna went out of production in 2010 and Disney has cut back substantially since then on the merchandize. I am not aware that Disney controls MC contractually or financially and fail to see how anyone can “force” her to do much since she is of age and very wealthy (which may be her problem).

Miley just signed with RCA and, according to several sources, had followed her god mother’s (Dolly Pardon) advice on managers etc until MC changed and employed a guy who had been with Britney Spears.

That’s too easy. Insulting of true victims. She had parents to be responsible for her when she was young, didn’t she? She wasn’t Marylin Monroe who had to fend for herself.

When Miley agreed to do this, she made her choice for her career and money, not decency. Mutually beneficial collaboration between her and her handlers.

Feminism is not racist. Nor is it classist. That’s the classic put down used to marginalize it: just a bunch of spoiled middle class white women whining. Sure.

Intersectionality, though, is a good thing.

Yes, and since it’s all been done at this point, to get the attention now you have to cross increasingly blurry lines! It was not only a vulgar performance, but just plain bad.

I thought I heard Robin Thicke’s people say everything you saw had been rehearsed and that there were no surprises.
