Miley Cyrus at the VMAs

I thought it was a good career move because otherwise she has no career. A girl has to do what she has to do to stay relevant in the pop world. Now she can release material that’s edgier and have at least a chance of being heard.

Everyone is talking about her, and that was the goal. When people are not getting the accolades they want for their talent, they often resort to this kind of thing. Whether or not it will benefit her in the long run is anyone’s guess.

Pretty well true of everybody and everything.

07Dad, I’m just basing it off pictures from last night. She looks like more like she controls her weight with coke and cigarettes than with training. A lot of models do that, keeps the weight off but isn’t what I would term healthy.

I find the whole thing pretty sad and feel the same way about Britney and some others. Young people steered into show business and exploited for their looks, once the money train gets rolling, everyone in their world wants to get on. No one seems to be looking out for their best interests as human beings, it must be incredibly lonely. All of the hate over the acting out (that’s what it is IMO) seems misplaced to me, I actually feel sorry for Miley.

True NRDSb4—when you crave pop star attention and lack talent, the only option available to you is to shock. But if you are going to use sex to command attention at least be creative about it. (I just watched this hot mess a few minutes ago----oh brother, it’s just crude, stupid and lame)

then again…it was the VMAs. Video awards from a channel that no longer even shows videos.

I’m still a young teenager but I think that performance was disgraceful and too shocking for such a large audience. She should know that many children still look at her as Hannah Montana, and although she doesn’t need to maintain that image, she can show the world she is an adult in different ways.

Good “letter” to Miley:

[Dear Miley: Here’s What I Hope You Learned About Adulthood After The VMAs](<a href=“HuffPost - Breaking News, U.S. and World News | HuffPost”>Dear Miley: Here's What I Hope You Learned About Adulthood After The VMAs | HuffPost Life)

I remember when Jimi Hendrix performed and used his guitar like Miley used the foam hand. And, he lit it on fire, too. Shame there wasn’t any talent there just shock value.

We have a remote control we use when watching TV. It has an channel changer/off/mute button. We use it when we don’t want to watch/listen to something. Isn’t that an option for everyone? One way everyone can show that they are an adult is to decide what they will watch and turn off anything they don’t want to see.

Watch and THEN complain? What’s that???

Oh, ick. People who are famous because they are famous are the worst. But why did this child star ever even make it on TV in the first place? I hesitate to even comment because I hate to draw any more attention to her.

I have not watched it, FWiW. However, CNN keeps flashing bits of it while I am trying to get some news of the day.

07DAD Yes…never complain. Just suck up what Viacom is dishing out.

Jimi Hendrix had talent. Elvis Presley had talent. Miley Cyrus? meh…

Since when is it not OK to comment on the current state of popular culture?

Hanna Montana debuted on March 24, 2006, on the Disney Channel. The series has been nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Children’s Program from 2007 through 2010. Three of the seven released soundtracks (Hannah Montana, Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus, and Hannah Montana: The Movie) topped the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.

From September 2006 to October 2006,Cyrus performed several songs from Hannah Montana during the The Party’s Just Begun Tour as an opening act for The Cheetah Girls. From October 2007 to January 2008, Miley Cyrus performed in a successful concert tour as Hannah Montana.

I guess a lot of young people and their parents liked her work, at least then.

A big portion of the music and entertainment industry is vile, vulgar, and filthy. Hasn’t anyone ever heard the filthy rap lyrics booming out of the car next to you at a traffic light stop…lots of money is involved in vulgar urban and other types of music…Miley Cyrus crosses over into that side of the entertainment industry because her handlers know they can make some extra big bucks there. I don’t like the direction Miley Cyrus is going, but others who buy her music do

Billboard stats for a Disney product aimed at middle schoolers are not indicative of talent. On the contrary. Personally I find that sort of stuff soul-sucking .But if you are a fan, then you are a fan. And all the discussion means nothing to you.

Again, since when is it not ok to criticize or discuss the state of popular culture?

I miss the old Miley. She had somewhat of a singing ability but her now vulgar attitude ruins it. As Disney channel stars get older they become more vulgar in order to escape from their “Cutesy” appearances. Coming from someone who grew up on Hannah Montana, the Jonas brothers, High school musical, etc.

Apparently two of her songs went top five on iTunes overnight. We are not her market.

Well MDMOM, never underestimate the bad taste of pop music fandom.

Music these days is not based on talent merely just a “likeability” factor.

What is a VMA? Am I too “amish”?

You think?!?

If you really want a “trip,” google “preach against rock and roll” and listen to the youtube results.
