I would like to suggest watching last night’s performance of “Same Love” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis as a refreshing antidote to Miley, with Mary Lambert demonstrating what a real singer sounds like:
[Same Love (Live) | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis | Music Video | MTV](http://www.mtv.com/videos/misc/948771/same-love-live.jhtml#id=1713008)

it appears Miley set out to be the most talked about performer at the VMAs and she succeeded…

let’s not talk about her ;)

She needs antibiotics for whatever is bothering her crotch.

Thanks, MommaJ. I love that song.

I think frugaldoctor wins “best post in thread”.

Agreed.^^…

Go Macklemore!

Ugh,Miley is just disgusting, unattractive, and obnoxious. I don’t understand why she has any following at all.

VMA Performance Was Our Top Story This Morning | The Onion - America’s Finest News Source](Let Me Explain Why Miley Cyrus’ VMA Performance Was Our Top Story This Morning)

I think this pretty much answers all questions about this performance, mainstream journalism, and what people seem to care about. As often, The Onion’s analysis stomps on all the rest.

Well I have definitely been entertained today by all the commentary from last night. Just found a slide show on MSN that gave me hope: [Stars react to Miley Cyrus’ 2013 MTV VMA performance | Gallery | Wonderwall](http://wonderwall.msn.com/music/stars-react-to-miley-cyrus-2013-mtv-vma-performance-26158.gallery)

Obviously, us old fuddy duddies aren’t alone in our displeasure with Miley’s performance. My favorite comment is from Trevor Donovan: “Drinking Game! Take a drink every time the camera shows an audience member looking uncomfortable during Miley Cyrus’ performance. #VMA’s”

Funny video, VMA shopped into last nights Breaking Bad scene. [Hank and Marie Watch The Video Music Awards - YouTube](<a href=“Hank and Marie Watch The Video Music Awards - YouTube”>Hank and Marie Watch The Video Music Awards - YouTube)

America’s been dumbed down alright. Millions of otherwise intelligent adults have spent much of the day tearing out their hair over a 5 minute television performance that is no more significant than Elvis thrusting his pelvis in the 1950’s. I think it’s sadder that there is evidently an audience for the show, “Family Dance Off.” That is scary.

I figure Rihanna was just calculating what extremes SHE was now going to have to go to to keep her own looks-based career rolling.

“Video Music Award show on MTV mini, the channel that used to show music videos.”

Oh, THAT’S what y’all talkin’ 'bout. Well, if they don’t show music videos, how do you win?

(I thought maybe VMA was another kind of sexually transmitted disease.)

Why aren’t you guys also upset with Robin Thicke? Dude who is married let a girl 16 years younger than him grind on his crotch while he sings rapey lyrics. He’s a grown adult- pretty bad judgement on his part.

I didn’t particularly care for her performance but this pearl clutching is what enables her to keep doing this junk- it causes the stir she wants. Certainly, it was not very tasteful (though I think you all are naive regarding modern middle schoolers- her dancing is not particularly worse than the crap in a rap video or hell, the blurred lines video).

And the idea about not being seen as a sexual object is that women should be free to express their sexuality and be objectified when they want to be, but not when they don’t consent. An example might be complimenting a women about her body at a professional event.

First of all the breaking bad spoof was laugh out loud funny.

I finally figured out what what was bothering me about Miley’s performance.

It was so bad it seemed to be a parody of a real dance. Her strutting about was comedic. Everything was overdone just enough to make you think it was not meant to be serious. Whatever IT is that she doesn’t have was glaringly apparent. it was like a bad high school performance. Her costume lent to this as well as the ridiculous bears.

Trying to keep her tongue out, walk down steps, and breath at the same time seemed to be a challenge.

The Thicke guy was just another comedic prop.

Well, she got what she was after so let’s see how it works for her.

" I’m finding the whole current music industry not art any more. Just a bunch of young no talent individuals with no lasting power and on the wrong bus. "

I tend to agree with this, for the most part. There are some talented newer groups / artists but they have no place on anything related to MTV.

The problem I have with the Miley Cyrus performance is that millions of little girls adored her as Hannah Montana and bought and wore a lot of her products with her face plastered all over…that wasn’t so long ago .

And althouth Taylor Swift may show a little more restraint when it comes to her performances and clothing choices, I think she sends a very bad message when it comes to her former boyfriends. I don’t care for the way she always seems to bash her ex loves whenever she has the microphone.

I am glad that my daughters never idolized any pop stars

Miley Cyrus defended her racy appearance at the Video Music Awards, tweeting Monday that it “had 306,000 tweets per minute. That’s more than the blackout or Superbowl! #fact.

Cyrus’s father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, tweeted a (kind of) supportive message, writing, “Thanking God for so many blessings tonight. Continue to pray for world peace. More love … less hate.”

blessings? so as long as he calls them “blessings” and thanks God it all looks good. sheesh

Well, she got what she wanted, attention. Considering her performance made it to College Confidential.

The thing that surprised me is that the girl just doesn’t have any sex appeal. She was crude and vulgar, but even as a woman, when another woman actually is sexy it is noticeable. Someone posted upthread that Miley has a prepubescent vibe and that seems to be part of it, but she is also a bit androgynous. To me, the whole thing smacked of a little kid grabbing their private parts and saying “look what I got.”
