Yep, CC probably contains most of the people who bought Miley’s stuff before the VMA.

So, she has the love of her Dad, $120+ million net worth, the near all time record of tweets, 2 songs that went to the Top 5 on itunes the night of the VMA AND is in the same category as Prince with his butt cheek cut out pants that he wore on the VMA.

I was an early teen when Marilyn Monroe did the Happy Birthday Mister President “performance.” In Texas (you can imagine) the skin tight dress, dewy bedroom eyed look, the breathy delivery and the absence of Jackie started a fire storm. Girls will be girls.

I think she should team up with Gene Simmons on something.

If money and attention (obviously negative “tweets” are just as good as positive ones) are the keys to happiness, then yes, she is sitting very pretty.

I don’t get this. Have you ever tuned in to a television show or a movie and said “gosh, the acting was terrible” or “okay that plot line is not believable” or offered any other kind of critique before? Are you saying if you see a television show all the way through you lose the option of commenting on its negative aspects? We have all kinds of threads about various TV series or movies wherein some people comment that they enjoyed it and others pipe in with their own criticism. That shouldn’t happen?

Like zoosermom observes MC is not giving us sexy. She is giving us “the [rubber] finger.” She made multimillions off of parents letting a TV actress be their young daughter’s teacher/role model without knowing anything about her other than the TV image. I think she is saying “jokes on you.”

And, she caused all this ruckus being “anti-sexy.” She had on more clothes that any NFL Cheerleader. If you have been to an NBA game, a lot of the twerk dance moves MC made are done at every game by the NBA Cheerleaders.

Does anyone think it interesting that Brooke Shield has joined in? Remember the nude photo of her at age 10 that caused the stink at the art gallery, her role in *Pretty Baby *at age 12 and *Blue Lagoon *at 15?

^^^^I think Brooke’s comments were actually more affectionate and concerned for her former costar rather than judgmental-more along the lines of “who is advising her?” Much the same as her actions at 12 and certainly 10 were completely directed by her mother and others who did not have her well being in mind.

Of course, let’s not forget her commercial “nothing comes between me and my Calvins.” ;)

If you let your kids freely consume mass media pap like Hanna Montana–which I freely admit I have never seen, but substitute Power Rangers or whatever–then you have bought into the whole scene already.

Personally, I don’t even like Sesame Street. I think it panders to short attention spans, and I detest the Muppets. Disney is to be consumed only in very, very small does. Beauty and the Beast, yes, Pocohantas, no. I did let my kid watch some Mr. Rogers and Shining Time Station. The worst it ever got was a desire for Brio railroad pieces.

I think that the line is very, very clear. It was unimaginable that Thomas the Tank Engine would ever end up working a pole, as Jamie Foxx apparently remarked about Miley Cyrus a few years ago. (I gather he was forced to apologize. The irony.)

As for Robin Thicke, the lyrics to his song are indeed too “rapey” for my taste, even though it is catchy.

I think several of you have hit the nail on the head with the idea of to some, any attention is good - positive or negative. My sister was that way growing up and is still that way.

Is this making anyone else wonder when they turned into the cranky old people who didn’t get the hippies or Elvis or whoever? I’m already telling my son he needs a haircut. Pretty soon I’ll be yelling at the kids to stay off my yard. sigh I don’t watch this crap and it’s certainly not making me feel any younger.

I’m curious if anyone out there actually thought that performance was sexy, or anything but disgusting. Even those who enjoy that kind of stuff. Anyone?

But she of all people should get that there is a difference between performance and life, a difference between what you do on your job and real life. If not, then Mika should be judged for taking on the persona of Morning Joe’s battered wife and being the equivalent of b-slapped almost every morning by him.

Finally, I have something to say on this thread - so thanks to 07Dad for introducing Bette and Joan to the conversation in post 154. However you feel about the film, it was Bette Davis’ last Oscar nomination, and it’s quite a performance. The film itself is beloved by many critics, and it introduced a genre we don’t see much anymore - late middle-aged murder flicks featuring late middle-aged superstars. Bette was not one to make the least of an opportunity and Joan was no slouch in that department, either.
