It is indeed possible unless the ED school specifically prohibits it. HYP plus Stanford and Caltech are REA, not ED, and those schools do prohibit also applying to MIT early. But one can apply EA to MIT and ED to Penn, as an example. Of course, if accepted ED, you’re committing to that school.
Fair statement of the facts. Yes, the HYP + CalTech + Stanford schools are the block, not MIT. That said, given that MIT claims to give no advantage to applying early, unlike some other schools which “seem” to, I don’t (casually) think it makes sense to do MIT EA plus, say, Penn ED. If you are looking for an elite technical school like MIT, Stanford, or CalTech, you can only apply early to one of these. It seems (disclaimer) that most of the top science/eng. students I’ve met (IMO/RSI types) apply to Harvard or Stanford early action (thinking the odds of acceptance here are better in early action) and then MIT in regular decision. So take that as a revealed preference with a few dozen sample size.
Nor do HYPS. There’s something to be said in applying to an REA school (or MIT) if the application will not be stronger for waiting; it gets it off your plate if it’s your top choice and you may be lucky and be accepted before the holidays. But none of these schools REA schools really has an admissions advantage when you back out legacy, recruited athletes, fac brats, etc.
Obviously Princeton.
Have to add another school
Now really getting difficult to make the right decision
Will the community help us choose between
Stanford
Princeton
U Penn M and T
Georgia Tech
Thank you!
You’ll likely have better answers to your question if you start a new thread here.
Not hard. Stanford.
What are the stem extracurriculars?
Scores/grades and varsity sport alone will not get in EA imho.
Does MIT not take LOCI for waitlist students?
MIT doesn’t consider interest in admissions so I doubt they want LOCI. You can update them with new awards or honors though.
The LOCI submission is in the waitlist form in your portal. It is due May 1st.
Thank you both. Hopefully she can submit today.
Do we want to continue using this thread for waitlist discussion or do we want to create a new thread?
