MLB post-season 2016

I would swap Madden for Francona. I don’t get why Madden has such a good reputation, he manages like an idiot, in-game at least.

I switched to the 11:00 news when Chapman was coming into the game – and basically thought it was over, despite Madden’s best efforts to make it close and entertaining – then forgot to switch back for 20 minutes. When I did, I thought I was going to be seeing the post-game celebration. Instead, I was looking at replays of Davis’ homer.

Agreed, JHS. You can’t blame Chapman for that. Madden’s ridiculous move of bringing him in with a 7-2 lead the night before for a longer stretch than he is used to, then expecting him to weave his magic again last night, was bound to see things unwind. Happy for the Cubs fans but wow, a very sloppy game.

Anyone know why the Cubs didn’t open their stadium for the fans to watch the game there like Cleveland had done?

Fabulous series. I said all along…these were great, well matched teams. I think this was the best World Series in years. Let’s put it this way…I never stayed up to watch every single game before!

Nice to see two really great teams finally shine!

Both towns should be celebrating.

@twoinanddone nope…not spending a fortune on cable tv just to be able rewind.

@gloworm congrats to those Cubs! Finally!!

@alwaysamom from what I understand, Progressive Field has THE largest screen of any MLB park…so folks could actually see! Apparently this was sponsored by Pepsi, $5 a ticket…and ALL proceeds went to charity. A class act!

Great game! Congrats to both teams!

( @thumper1, @twoinanddone - no need to spend a fortune on cable to rewind. I use TIVO for DVR capabilities for over the air TV-- DVR features is something I refuse to give up! )

I don’t know if people are familiar with the plans for Wrigley and the area around it. You can google Wrigley Plaza. Here’s a link to some pics. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/chc/restore-wrigley/our-vision/ballpark-renderings/

@alwaysamom also…I be.ieve the sixth game was broadcast at the Q after the Cavs game ended…for anyone who wanted to stay and watch.

Cleveland should be might proud of these two teams…

And for the Browns…there is always next year.

Wow, this really was one for the ages. Both managers made questionable decisions, they are both unconventional (Francona loading the bases with an intentional walk, pitching Kluber 3 times, why Maddon took out Hendricks when he was pitching well [could have left hendricks in, then in an inning or two put in lester, then someone else to close it), I was frustrated, figured Maddon had blown it…I also enjoyed when ‘the old guy’ (the catcher) got a HR, that was sweet.
On the other hand, the unconventionality paid off, when the guy who was pinch running for Schwarber tagged up on that long fly ball, that shows how the Cubs play. If that had been the mets, the player would have run to second, then run back (Collins is one of the most conventional managers around), the kid was smart, waited to see what happened then tagged, and he then could score. Both managers made mistakes, but they also recovered from them, and while I really wanted the Cubs to win, Cleveland had nothing to be ashamed of, and if their pitching staff recovers they are going to be a top pick to go to the World Series next year and win it.

I am sure Fox and the advertisers were delirious with this one, lots of breaks to have commercials in, and long, interesting games, this has to be one of the most exciting world series I have watched, outside of when my own teams were playing (in the 86 series, the Mets put me into overload, I actually had turned off the tv before Wilson’s ground ball, couldn’t take it any more…). Definitely better than some of the snooze fests we have seen, for sure (Roger Goodell must be gnashing his teeth, this post season has trounced NFL ratings, and with good readon, the NFL has basically put mediocre piles of cow flop on the field, especially their prime time games…but that is another thread).

I loved seeing the scenes after the Sox won in 2004 , the most touching one I saw was the fan who had put the scorecard for the clinching game on his mom’s grave, that one had me crying when I saw that…hopefully will be interesting scenes to see with the cubs (I personally think the Cubs should have a gigantic goat roast, with Steve Bartman as guest of honor, to finally chase away all the old superstitions lol).

Funny story, back in 1994 a friend invited me to a talk Ken Burns was giving (this was when “Baseball” came out, also was the season where the World Series was cancelled because of the strike). Someone asked him when he thought the Sox (which he is a huge fan of) or the Cubs would break their curse first, and he said he wasn’t sure he would live to see either happen in his lifetime:) He ended up doing “10th inning” after the Sox won (that and the Steroid scandal made him want to do it) and from what I heard, he has said he would do an “11th inning” if the Cubs one (and yes, I am selfish enough to partially root for the Cubs because of that), given how incredible this world series was I think no matter who won he would do it.

I went to one of the watch parties at Progressive Field. It was amazing–completely packed with Indians fans (except the bleachers seats, of course, which don’t have a view of the screen and so were the only empty seats). It was like being at the game itself! Maybe it was even more fun in a way because almost every person was cheering intensely for the Tribe. I did see one elderly Cubs fan, and it was neat to see the respect and enthusiasm that we Indians fans gave him. So cool that he was there… I’m sure there were more Cubs fans, but I didn’t happen to see them. It would’ve been nice if Wrigley had been able to have similar watch parties.

So appropriate - right after All Saints Day, on the second day of Dia de los Muertes, thinking of all the beloved departed, grandmas and grandpas, who would be thrilled with the Cubs victory!

A lot of sports teams show the games on big screens during the playoffs for the away games, but it does take police presence, concessions, ushers, etc. and some advanced planning. They do it sometimes here for hockey and basketball.

When the Orioles won in Philly many (many) years ago, the team was coming in on a bus so there was no airport greeting. They opened the stadium (old one) so there was somewhere for people to wait. Otherwise, they all would have been in the streets at midnight, which was mainly a residential area.

Heading into the City for the parade/rally at Grant Park tomorrow. In addition to all the local Chicago stations, it will be on MLB. It’s going to be epic. I really hope Eddie Vedder is there to sing “All the Way”.

Though Im in Ohio, I was rooting for Chicago. I will never root for Cleveland until they get rid of that mascot!

I’m hoping that Cleveland will do something on a smaller scale to honor the Indians. They had an awesome season!

People are leaving green apples at Harry Carey’s grave. Based on his statement that “Sure as God made green apples, one day the Chicago Cubs will be in the World Series.”

They’re dying the Chicago River Cubbie blue today!! Go Cubs!!

Enjoy the celebrations, Cub fans! I remember what fun it was, two years in a row, when the Jays won the series.

My favorite Chicagoan, Studs Terkel, would have appreciated this, I am sorry he didn’t live to see it, he would have had some good comments on it I am sure:)

Really? The world series I watched had four games with lopsided scores where only one team generated any offense. There was a grand total of two lead changes the entire series – the team that scored first won 5 of 7 games – and they happened in the 2nd and 4th innings (and the first of them turned into a blowout). The last game was the only game where the score was tied late in the game.

It still went to 7 games, and there was real interest in this. The thing about the lopsided scores was that people still stayed watching the games, because they believed that either team could come back, it was actually surprising the games had lopsided scores like that …and of course the background story for both teams. If this had been the Dodgers versus Blue Jays the ratings would have been a fraction of the audience. The ratings show that large parts of the viewing audience watched the entire games, even though they went late into the night.

Go Cubs!!
