MLB post-season 2016

…sorry… go Dodgers!!! …

I don’t watch baseball anymore, but back in the Tommy Lasagna days, the boys in blue were my team.

Plus, one of the arrogant, obnoxious guys at work is a die hard Cubs fan.

Go Dodgers!

Nats! Nats! Nats!

While I have pay TV, I really do not like the fact that none of these games are on free over the air TV.

Don’t care who wins tonight, but hope my Cubs are ready. In the AL I want Cleveland to win.

Yeah, one of the Nats games was on MLB Network, which we don’t pay for. Happily S2 was able to Chromecast it to the TV. The big brouhaha here, though, is that Metro has refused to have trains available after the game. The last train to get back to our station leaves at 11:17 pm – about the 7th inning, the way these games have been going. The game starts at 8:05, so Some of the players spoke out about it a few days ago, and folks are hiring buses, doing ride sharing, etc. There will probably be too many people for Uber to handle in any kind of effective way.

@CountingDown - I saw that on the evening news and thought that was crazy. Did they say why they weren’t going to leave metro open? Or do they not like baseball? I thought last year? they had metro going after a hockey game (i think)

That game last night was wonderful. Hope the Washington fans got home OK, what with transport issues. Those same problems occur in England and Spain when the soccer (football) matches end so late, yet the leagues do not seem to care about the fans, only TV ratings.

People can say what they want, but we never have to worry about that in NYC, at least with the subways, and the TA runs extra trains for the after game crowd on both the 7 and the D and 4 lines for Citifield/Yankee stadium, respectively. On the other hand, with latenight games, if you are commuting to the burbs that could be a problem, though most have a late night train, like a 1am. Doesn’t surprise me the DC Metro would do something like that, they are one of the most poorly run transit systems around and one of the more arrogant ones, too, from everything I have read, they kind of reflect the old Willie Vanderbilt idea, “The customer be Dammed”

The DC Metro has serious safety issues of late due to deferred maintenance. It’s a political hot potato between DC, MD and VA. Yes, last year the Caps got Metro to stay open later, but no longer. The Nats owners offered to pay the extra costs and was flat out rejected.

The Marine Corps Marathon starts later this montheat 8am and Metro doesn’t open til 7am on Sun. They won’t budge on an earlier open. Metro has also ended the popular weekend late night trains and now stop running at midnight.

Frustrating as all get out for those who use Metro instead of driving in our insane traffic. And $17/day for DH’s commute, including parking at the Metro garage.

That said, apparently hardly anyone left the game early to catch the train.

I would have hoped that Dusty wouldn’t make the same screwy calls at Showalter. Instead, we lost a winnable game, with some head-scratching calls about double switches. And the 3rd base coach who waved Werth home…agh!

A pitchers’ duel last night in Cleveland. Not my favorite kind of game. I’m a lots-of-hits- gal. Sad for Marco Estrada who pitched his first complete game of the season, and with one bad pitch selection, lost the game. Gotta get those bats working again today, Jays!

Last night’s game showed why the Cubs are going to be tough to beat. The Dodgers were in the game, and managed to tie the game when the relievers Maddon brought in in the 8th couldn’t hold the lead (Chapman was brought in with bases loaded, no outs, dodgers got one hit off him that scored two runs, so te game was tied). However, in the 8th the Cubs teed off on Blanton and Montero, not exactly a great hitter, had a pinch hit grand slam. They have the kind of team where a decision that turned out to be a mistake, ends up not being fatal.

The Dodgers have a lot of grit, but they don’t have the pitching to win this, if Kershaw gets roughed up tonight then I suspect that means the series is a fait accompli.

It’s going in to the bottom of the 9th in game 2 as I write this. This game shows exactly why the Dodgers are going to be tough to beat. Kershaw has been great, and the two gang bangers of the Cubs (Strop and Chapman) are not all that. Whether the Cubs win or not tonight, I think the Dodgers can do it, and I say that as a Cubs fan.

My 2 favorite teams are the Giants and anyone the Dodgers are playing but I really have to give Kershaw kudos tonight. He pitched on just 2 days rest and dominated a very talented Cubs lineup but the top of their order in particular.

Spoken like a true Cubs fan. I don’t think you can be a long-term Cubs fan without believing that their opponent, whoever it is, can do it.

I know, right, JHS. First game at Wrigley in 1959. It’s been character building, but not confidence building. I’m still going to hope.

Today may be it for our Jays. Their powerful hitting just seems to be gone, even their scrambling come-from-behind style that worked well so many times through the season, is missing in action against Cleveland pitching. What fun to get this far two years in a row. We know that doesn’t happen for most teams.

Gotta hand it to those Dodgers. Boy are they good.

Come on, Cubs!

Well, the Jays lived to fight another day. Coming back from a 3-0 deficit is unlikely but they sure gave the hometown fans lots to cheer about yesterday. Josh Donaldson, the AL MVP, sure lived up to it in Game 4. A home run, an amazing defensive play to end a Cleveland rally, and an incredibly smart running play that drew a cutoff throw to him racing to third base, so that the runner heading to home could score safely. What a day for JD.

The opposite looked true today. Impressive showing by the Cubbies.

Joe Maddons funky glasses (the secret to the Cubs success) got their Mojo back, that is the explanation. Hopefully this isn’t the cubs pulling a NY Mets, hit a ton of HR’s in a game (where they only need a couple to win), then dry up.
