MOB dresses for both daughters' weddings

I really like the Rickie Freeman for Teri Jon Short-Sleeve Lace A-line Cocktail Dress

I like that dress, too, VABluebird!

Could you give the link to that dress you like? So many have been posted…

You all are GREAT. I am going to have to really curtail reading here because I must cook and prep my Seder (D1 just called and I pushed their arrival back a half hour already!).

Yes, the teal dress, while lovely, is too straight for my figure.

@thumper1 I think you misunderstand…I am not saying I am searching for neutral or beige! In fact, I won’t be buying beige because D asked me to not wear Ivory because she is. I will ask her about that dress that was ivory on top and black on the bottom half though. As you can see, the dress I loved was a lead grey. I have also bookmarked and shared dresses here that are navy or black.

I agree that whatever I wear won’t look like the bridesmaids (color scheme for them is burgundy and gold) and in fact, they are not going to be wearing matching dresses themselves…they were told to buy anything they want in that color way. I see nothing wrong with wearing burgundy or gold myself but D asked me not to and I will respect her wishes. She is just not traditional or into everything matching up, etc. I don’t know yet what the MOG will be wearing or if she has even looked into it. I may write and ask her. She is thin and from what I can tell, not all that fashionable, but I don’t know her thoughts for this occasion.

I don’t really have a friend to go with me (though D1 lives near by and could), but as I mentioned, I find the selection, particularly for my size, much greater online than in the stores, and thus, more efficient.

All of the input you gals have given has been great and so I appreciate it and keep it coming. I’ll let ya know what dresses I decide to order and go from there. I have to put this aside for today!

@thumper1 I think @VaBluebird and @BunsenBurner were referring to this dress that I had liked and shared here earlier:

It is a bit pricey, however (for me). But I’ll see what I do.

I like that one too…and it’s not beige

Is she dead set against burgundy? I still like this style (which was in your very first link) and I think it is very pretty with the sparkle. I personally think a lot of colors clash with burgundy so you’d almost be better off in the same color. This dress comes in a zillion other colors, not just the ones in this link.

The deep v neck and those criss-crossy things in front make the dress very flattering.

PS I do think that navy works with the burgundy and gold color scheme.

I like the dress you posted in #184–and am sure it would look great in photos, without clashing.

Have you tried using a search tool such as Shopstyle? I played with it just now with your parameters in mind and noticed this dress on sale at Saks in a 16: http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/ProductDetail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524446950646&site_refer=AFF001&mid=13816&siteID=J84DHJLQkR4-OW4vuZu.5aImtHZvASfw9g&LSoid=421043&LSlinkid=15&LScreativeid=400089623447

The dress in post 186 also comes in a nice grey!

^^ – just looked at that dress at Saks and saw the following notice:

Perhaps you can use that – not sure how long discount is available.

Lots of lovely options you have found.
I think navy would work great with gold and burgundy.
(My future DIL is using navy and burgundy for her wedding colors – they are the colors of her (navy) and my son’s (burgundy) undergrad schools.)

Best wishes for a lovely Seder!

I’ve never heard of this site before but it has some ridiculously inexpensive dresses http://www.fashionmia.com/Products/elegant-floral-printed-skater-dress-146410.html

Mother of the groom July 9 th
I went to nordstrom, lord and Taylor, macys
My sister, is there a more honest voice, and worked with stylist at Nordstrom.

Tried on many of those tadashi lace overlay sheaths. I can not tolerate the snug fit, although sister said looked fine. I would not be comfortable.

However, the two toned, beige on top, black bottom, lace dress, was the most comfortable of all of that style,

I liked it without the belt - the lace and the weight of the dress felt better than those yoke lace neck options.

It was “enlightening” to discover that all these dresses, I’ve been studying for weeks, many soozievt and others like, are not doable because I need to be comfortable.I like looser fitting clothes.

Like soozievt I have not worn spanx, and I imagine those sheaths with overlay feel like spanx.
i was in right size per my sister and stylist) the other stylist walked by a few times, and eventually said how everything looked great on me, like I was modeling the dresses, which was kind of her to say. But, it was how they felt.
Just sharing … “The -in -store” experience. I discovered fit and flare not as comfy as I expected,

I am most interested in soozievt experience in some of those styles.

Soozie - since you do so much online shopping, I do hope you’re signed up with Ebates. D1 had been trying her hardest to sign me up for months, and I finally did. It’s amazing, if you shop online a lot, how much a few dollars here and there add up.

This dress has been mentioned upthread… Here is how it looks on a bigger body:

Take a look at the navy, it is available in 14W (I think this could be 16 equivalent)

Hey you guys…I’m back. Cooked up a storm and then had D1 and her fiancé over for a lovely seder. So, just putting my feet up now that they left.

So many thoughtful posts!

The sleeveless dress in post 186 that comes in many colors, I have seen before online. While it is nice, as I wrote earlier, I am trying to avoid sleeveless in my initial searches because of two things…the wedding is in late September and my upper arms are not great. For the time being, I am seeing what I can find that is not sleeveless but I could do sleeveless if unsuccessful. But the wedding is a ways away and so I am at liberty to be more picky for now.

The Kay Unger portrait collar satin dress in #188 at Saks…honestly, it is just too sophisticated for my personal style, even though it is a lovely dress. It just isn’t me.

@SouthJerseyChessMom Thanks for sharing that you tried on the two toned ivory on top, black on bottom dress that I had linked to earlier. I happen to like that dress and the style likely is good for me. Have to ask D, however, if she’d be OK with ivory on top since she initially said she didn’t want me to wear Ivory since she is.

To those who asked if I might wear burgundy or gold…D just is not into the whole matching up thing. She just wanted the bridal party in those colors. Nothing else in the wedding has a color scheme. I don’t think she cares what color I wear in terms of photos. I was just remarking that it would be nice not to clash with the wedding party colors, but this is not a big deal. She just isn’t into any of these traditions and such. She happened to text me that her fiance was picking up the suit he picked out for the wedding tonight. I’m interested to hear what color he got. I know he went with a friend.

@BunsenBurner The illusion yoke crepe sheath…to me, it just doesn’t feel special enough. Also, I still think a sheath may not look great on me, given my figure.

@teriwtt I have never heard of Ebates. I will look up what you are talking about.

@jym626 I’ll check that site out. While price matters, I don’t want anything that looks particularly cheap. While I don’t wear designer clothing, I tend to buy, not sure how to put it, mid price good clothing? A few hundred dollars for dresses for my own kids’ weddings is OK. They only get married once, hopefully.

By the way, yes, I do like navy. My current home is mostly decorated in navy and white! I recently bought an eyelet summer dress in navy too.

If you sign up with a referral from me, I get a little something-something.

@terwtt…let me look up what you are referring to as I never heard of it. Pretty tired at the moment…will try to look it up tomorrow.

@atp Thanks for explaining what Shopstyle is. I will try that out. I wasn’t aware of that kind of search. I have used Google and looked at many stores online that I know of that carry this sort of stuff. While I am VERY welcoming of any dresses you guys can suggest, I currently have several I might consider ordering. Will review them tomorrow and decide the next step.

Keep suggestions coming. You all have great fashion sense.

sooz, ebates is well worth your time if you do lots of online shopping. I don’t do that much (I don’t think) online shopping, but my lifetime cashback with ebates stands at $557 right now --about 2.5 years…fwiw…
