More snow Monday?

They’re already declaring snow emergencies around here.

Gross. I’m wondering if I should head out tonight and make a quick run to the grocery store. We’re pretty much out of food because we’ve all been too sick to go grocery shopping. Whoops

They are predicting 8"-16" in the Cap. District from Sunday late afternoon to 6pm Monday. And just the other day the forecast was for no snow from this storm. Sigh.

I’m on a flight first thing Tuesday morning for Florida. I should be OK. I will keep checking the airline’s website to see if they extend the ability to change flights. It’s only available for flights from Sunday afternoon - Monday afternoon as of a few hours ago.

I did have to put my foot down and tell H he is not driving to Syracuse tomorrow to watch the Super Bowl with his brother and driving back early Monday morning in a snow storm.

Honestly, this is a pretty typical winter for us, except that December was so mild. It’s kind of funny that everyone is paying so much attention to it!

So tired of this already. I’m starting to seriously consider moving to an apartment/condo where we don’t have to shovel. The fact that our house is - literally - falling down around us doesn’t help.

Well after staring at my fridge for a good 10 minutes without food magically appearing, I’ve made the executive decision to drag my partner grocery shopping.

Day before super bowl ahead of a big storm. Pictures of empty shelves may follow. Pray for my soul :stuck_out_tongue:

Your shopping experience will probably be okay, @romanigypsyeyes, unless you subsist on chicken wings, chips, and beer.

Looks at grocery list

Uh oh…

Wow, this storm almost seems to be covering more miles than the last one - maybe not the quantity in inches but covering more miles??? Here in NW Ohio they are saying anywhere from 8-14 when it’s all said and done. The only thing worse than the storm is the amount of time the snow sticks around before it melts…

Yep in the northeast- NYC, Boston, upstate NY ( mentioning areas I am concerned about haha).

But it is late January here. So what is the big deal? We always get long cold snowy winters. Some are harder than the others. But none should be a surprise.

I think maybe the media makes us go mad. “I may be snowed in for two days!,” So I need to–collect 50 gallons of water ( when you could always use the snow), 10 days of food ( when, let’s be honest, it would be good to empty the freezer and refrigerator) and fill the gas tank in the car ( but you cannot drive anywhere). So relax and enjoy winter. You chose to live here afterall.
PS I can’t wait to go to Cancuan in a few weeks! An all inclusive is booked!!

So it wasn’t terrible. Most of the fresh fruit was gone and my favorite chip dip. Definitely nothing like last year’s chaos.

Amazingly, I was at the store this afternoon. They had extra cashiers working. The place was very well stocked. Between the super bowl folkd and the storm folks, it was crowded, but I easily got everything I needed!

@marilyn, where did you decide to put an offer on a house? UTC area? I am happy for you!

Our trip to the grocery store last night (as an afterthought when we were already running an errand) was quite entertaining. Basically no produce at all left on the shelves. We just wanted some fresh broccoli or another fresh vegetable for dinner. We managed to grab two of the last half dozen potatoes left - there was some minimal fruit left, but no major vegetables to speak of - no lettuce at all, etc., so it wasn’t only Super Bowl food. We didn’t even bother to go through the rest of the store since we are OK with other stuff. At least if people are snowed it, it seems as if they’re eating healthily!

I was just woken up by a text from our security system. The Chicago area will be under a blizzard warning from 2PM-midnight. I hear the plows out there now, but I have no idea how much we got overnight - am just going to try to go back to sleep and not worry about it.

I’m just worried about the ice. Forecast is for 0.25" in my area, sandwiched bewteen 4-8" of snow. As muc as I hate snow, I would take another 6" vs that much ice.

It’s already snowing here. Just a very few light flakes but it wasn’t even supposed to start until afternoon. SW has now extended change reservation policy up to Tuesday 12am. I’ve decided I am just not going to worry about it. If I get out, great - if not, I’ll just go on 1st available flight.

Thank you all for convincing me that we can make it until Tuesday with what’s already in the house (which, let’s face it, could sustain a small village for perhaps a week). But I’m not liking the “up to an inch” of ice in the forecast, nor am I happy that DH is hoping to get into work on Monday to meet a colleague who has travelled from abroad to meet with him for a couple of days.

Out of your favorite chip dip?! - that IS a crisis! Chip dip = important!!!

Woke up to 3 inches in NW Ohio - just the start. H used the snowblower before he had to go to work and I did the deck (it’s big and long and our way out to the yard and garage) and the front porch. That was 2 hours ago and there is easily another 1-2 inches accumulated again. Blowing. Lots of BLOWING. City is on a level 1 emergency but will likely progress to 2 by early afternoon and I’ll be 3 by evening for the night.

Got the pup out for a good work this morning while his little corgi legs could still maneuver!

@ItsJustSchool, the house is on Point Loma in the upper Ocean Beach area. There will be multiple offers so we area prepared to be outbid, but it is exciting. Especially after waking up to the snow and seeing blizzard warnings for the afternoon. All of this year’s winter is hitting in one day.

DH went grocery shopping yesterday and said it was like the day before Thanksgiving. I picked up some stuff Friday so we are well stocked. And our cat has litter boxes upstairs and down so I don’t think she’ll be asking to go outside!

@abasket I know, right?!

I got another brand though- hesitantly as I haven’t liked the two other brands that I’ve bought when my favorite was out- and it’s actually pretty darn good! I may or may not have gone through half of the dip last night when it was supposed to be for the Super Bowl today… whoops.

We have about 2 inches but it’s supposed to really pick up in an hour or so- haven’t heard anything about ice. Dog is refusing to come out from underneath the blankets as the temps dropped off dramatically overnight and we didn’t adjust our heat accordingly.

Not to get off topic, but my two fav chip dip are either Kroger French Onion or Heleva!!!
