More snow Monday?

I’m terrified of what’s going to happen post-game when the idiots who are drinking going out on the roads. There have been many, many accidents already and we’re just now getting into the bad stuff.

Luckily, the snow here isn’t supposed to start until well after the game ends!

Schools closed here for tomorrow and that includes the university where I work since I’m not an “essential” employee.

On a sad note, the mayor of our town was driving on our awful roads in this terrible weather and had an accident, hit a pole and was found unconscious. Word is a citizen gave him CPR and he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with a cardiac event. Don’t know if the heart attack was the reason for the accident or the result. Quick change of command for the city and sadness for everyone.

UMich-AA (branches are closed) announced that they will be open. I don’t think my car can get out of my driveway.

As a side note, it is times like this that it frustrates me when people suggest commuting to residential colleges as a way to save money. Residential colleges do not give a rat’s behind about commuter students- and they’re rather blunt about that fact.

My son’s college didn’t close last week and they had 27" and blizzard conditions.

None of the schools in my area have announced they are closing tomorrow - except a few in the rural areas. They normally wait until the morning because they have been burned a few times when predicted heavy snow didn’t materialize.

abasket, that is horrible about your mayor.

A friend’s daughter was hit from behind by a speeding car, spun out of control and hit a pole, friday night. The whole front of her car was completely smashed in. Her car started smoking and she couldn’t get out but some good Samaritans were able to get her out of the car. Fortunately she escaped without any injuries. The speeding car hit another car right after it hit hers.

Snow day!!!

I don’t care how old I get, a snow day will always be cause for me running around the house yelling “Yah-tah!”
(Though my dog does not appreciate it. She barked at me.)

Well, Chicago area here. 16in. so far, and due to lake effect (south end of LM in this case), 6more over night. virtually everything is closed.

H has a 46mile one way trip to work. I hope he doesn’t go.

A very light snow at this point here in upstate NY.

It is up to H to call if classes are cancelled tomorrow at our state college. He is getting pushed and pulled from every side, including me. Haha. Most students live on or near campus. But many faculty and support staff do not. Maintainance is worried about keeping roads and walks clear. Faculty are concerened about covering what they need to cover, especially for classes that meet once a week on Monday evenings. It is a tough call especially given the incorrect weather forecasts in recent times.

How can you tell? We went out to shovel and run the snow blower and we experienced everything from nothing on the ground in some areas, to areas with drifts over 2’ deep!

Our local schools are canceled for tomorrow. My bet is that the wind isn’t going to die down soon enough so they can get out and really clear the roads for the buses. I had to go out around 9:15 to get some gas for the snow blower, and there were very, very few cars on the road (only had to go a little over a mile away). The roads were very bad, but thankfully my SUV drives well in these conditions (not that I went above 25mph, anyway).

Re: “Snow day!!!”

romani, Does it mean you will not need to skip the class you mentioned earlier?
If yes, congrats!

Why would commuting to residential colleges save money? I do not understand the meaning of that whole paragraph.

I just look up the weather in the next few days in southern CT. It is freezing cold.
Do people there still drive on the street, or on the coastal freeway I-91 (or I-95, the one leading to NYC) for work?
Does the snow on the road become icy in such a cold weather?

The roads would’ve probably been OK by the time I had to leave for my class (afternoon class). But yes, classes are cancelled so I don’t even have to attempt to adventure out.

@romani, Are you at UMich-AA now?

DS visited that school for a day 3-4 years ago, and I have met two coworkers who were graduated from that school. Even when I was a very young kid (in elementary/middle school) somehow I heard the linguistic department there was a top one. BDM, a CCer there, once seems to have said (not online post, rather, it was in an online chat which was initiated by a CCer from UChicago) that the med school at AA trains their students better than wustl due to some of their some kind of “community” programs (wustl is Washington U at STL, which DS visited before too, but it seems he liked UMich better - Go Blue!)

That is where I attend, yes, but I am a commuter and do not live in AA.
I am not a Michigan fan though :stuck_out_tongue:

Yay!!! All 3 kids, my husband and I are all off!!

I was a bit concerned about all of us on those icy roads/

Looks like we have about 2-3" so far and it’s going to be snowing all day, tapering to snow showers after dark. Probably will end up around 10-11" at my house. Schools have all closed but that is about it. People who have jobs will all go to work. Not expecting any change over to ice at all. A medium snow storm and nothing which will pose too many problems.

I should have no trouble flying out tomorrow morning.

Tom Skilling, of course! H has called to say he is not going. He was only supposed to work a hlf day due to a Dr. appt., so in reality it isn’t worth the struggle.

Lake effect will kick in, and I’m in the predicted area for that, southern tip of LM.

We have 47 school closings in the area. My daughter’s is not one of them.

Sun’s out here in Chicagoland, 7 degrees with some wind. 18.5 inches are finally down. The drifts are amazing. I have some work to do with the trusty snowblower, but the roads are still bad so I’m in no hurry. I went out in the blizzard or near blizzard yesterday using my old parka. The snorkel hood is a wonderful thing. I was surprised at the little birds. They pecked away at the seed I put out throughout the worst of the storm.

Snow day at work, a great book I’m 2/3 of the way through, and a “Groundhog Day” marathon on AMC. Thank you, universe. (If I could bear to use the new smilies, I would insert one here.)

We have maybe 6 inches here on the coast of Massachusetts. They are predicting a brief change to sleet this afternoon. I can’t see over the drifts from last weeks storm. It is a bit windy but nothing like last week. This storm is, to me, the epitome of a typical New England winter storm. Unlike last weeks surreal event.

All communities around here cancelled school but state employees are expected to report. My D is in a grad program in Boston and it has cancelled classes today. It is grad only, no residents on campus.

My main concern is going back to work tomorrow. Last week, after the blizzard we returned to our school to find out that the pipes had frozen on one side of the building (my side). Apparently the power had gone out and the dampers malfunctioned. Snow blew right into the building through the heating vents. We had no heat at all for one day and partial heat in some rooms for another. The powers that be didn’t see fit to cancel school. My classroom was pulled apart with space heaters trying to thaw the pipes when I left on Friday. I am praying that they have worked over the weekend to repair things. I spent two days teaching art from a cart. Not my kinda gig.
