I am really bothered by the fact that this guy didn’t get rid of his gun.
Also, I want to apologize for my earlier post, suspecting the killer was someone close to the victim. Good thing I’m not a detective.

Honestly, even though I responded to your post with the emoji, I’m not.
There is a huge dislike among 20-somethings for the capitalist system. I see posts to this effect to various degrees of vitriol.
My ds has a high school classmate whom I follow on Instagram who is more vocal than many. He was a National Merit Finalist who attended our state flagship on a full-ride. Got a degree in history, but has refused to go to work for, “the man,” and continues to live at home with his parents at age 28. I can’t believe some of the stuff he posts.
But, I see tamer stuff from many in this age group. The sentiment among those seems to be, “We don’t like capitalism, but this is the system we have to work with.” So, while they have integrated and assimilated into the status quo, they don’t t like it. There is lots of blame of capitalism, Reagan’s economic policies, and Boomers to go around.
This person should not be glorified in any way. For people commenting that they aren’t surprised it happened, I don’t even know what to say. An attitude of, “Well, what did you expect?” makes me want to say, “Well, I certainly don’t expect people to be gunned down on the street.” If this is considered a reasonable response, then I fear for our future as a civilized society.
I suspected the same.
Capitalist Pig? Wow, seems like something you’d hear on TV or 1960’s.
Wow did anyone just see him being transported. What was he screaming?? All I heard was “American people” and he seemed really angry.
History repeats itself. Many believe we are living through the second Gilded Age. Read up on the violence and terrorism of the first, and acts like this are less surprising.
ok I’m convince something has happened in the past year to this guy to severely alter his life.
I agree. He seems unstable to say the least.
Trying to make out the words… something about “unjust” and “insult to the American people” and the police are clearly restraining him which is completely different than how he appeared yesterday.
He 100% strikes me as someone who has been brainwashed and radicalized.
He needs to bolster that insanity defense. It’s a survival game at this point.
I pay good money for these types of reports…
To put things in some perspective, we in the US experienced a wave of assassinations and attempted assassinations of political figures & others who impacted the nation’s politics over a period of 2 decades (1963-81) - JFK, Malcolm X, MLK, RFK, George Wallace, Gerald Ford, Harvey Milk, and Ronald Reagan. I may be forgetting someone. We have gone more than 40 years without that being an issue. Now in less than 6 months, we’ve seen 2 attempts on the life of Donald Trump and a corporate president gunned down.
Our concerns about gun violence have been focused on school shootings over the past 25 years since Columbine. These recent incidents may be a sign that we’re entering a new era.
It will be interesting to see where this case goes.
The suspect will or likely already has good representation. Good criminal attorney(s) that will shape this case.
I guess maybe I’m jaded by what I observe as an increase in the random violence against innocent people in the U.S. over the past couple of years. Nothing really surprises me anymore. I think that’s different than a “well, what did you expect” attitude. Maybe it isn’t to you, but it is to me, otherwise I wouldn’t have written it here.
I’m not surprised by the feelings of young adults who decry late-stage capitalism and feel disheartened, but it’s a big leap, IMO, from not being surprised to violence. I Googled late-stage capitalism and thought I’d c&p the AI overview in case people are unfamiliar with that term.
AI Overview
“Late stage capitalism” is a term used to describe the current stage of capitalism, which is characterized by:
Economic inequality: The rich get richer, while the poor get poorer. For example, billionaires are now 34% richer than they were in 2020.
Corporate greed: Corporations are powerful and exploit the middle class.
Commodification: Everything is commodified and consumable, including immaterial dimensions like the arts and lifestyle activities.
Globalization: The economy is globalized.
Industrialization: There is a generalized universal industrialization.
The term is often used to describe the absurdities and indignities of contemporary capitalism. For example, some examples of late stage capitalism include:
The term was popularized by Marxist economist Ernest Mandel in his 1972 PhD dissertation.
Some economists, such as Thomas Piketty and Joseph Stiglitz, suggest that increasing inequality could endanger the future. Some people are imagining a post-capitalist society where everyday lives are no longer guided by overconsumption and environmental degradation.
Okay, riddle me this. The Mangione family is massive.
If you look at the “About” page on Nino Mangione’s political website you’ll see that he is one of 60 grandchildren!
How does a family that size not identify their relative when the photos came out?
Hoping this article doesn’t violate ToS, it’s from Politico but the content is sociological; it’s an interesting take on recent events (sorry I couldn’t get a preview to link):

So at his hearing just now, he tried to speak and his lawyer told him to stop talking.
He isn’t waiving his extradition rights meaning that it could take 30-40 days to get him to NY.
How do you know they didn’t, though?
The police had a name several days ago; they did not say what it was, or how they got it. Could have been anyone, including a family member.
