Music schools for students without private vocal education?

What is that? How would I qualify?

I am going to post another thread on this.

Is what a good idea - MCC to Oswego? It certainly could be, given the price difference, if you determine that the music program there compares favorably with other schools you’re considering. Fredonia is excellent too. It’s good to have multiple options, because when you drill down on details like who your primary voice teacher will be in a given program, you may discover preferences that will swing the decision.

Thanks for the advice! I will talk to my choir director about this option!

Crane at Potsdam is a good music school. Purchase too. I don’t know much about the other SUNY’s (or CUNY’s).

Yes. I have been told by other people to go with Crane if I get in.

You have multiple threads going and so I am a little lost on your narrative now, but you asked for advice so here it is: Focus.

You need to get out of the house and you need an affordable Bachelors degree, full stop.

You cannot worry about a PhD or teaching K-12 or any of the other things you keep bringing up on your other threads

If a likely affordable option has a minor or certificate program in music…or even the possibility of affordable private instruction without a full blown major it goes on the list. Is it optimal? No. But dropping out in January of freshman year because you can’t pay for your dorm and can’t commute is a worse option.

Do not reject affordable options because they don’t meet your “best case” scenario. If your parents truly won’t help financially and there are no commutable options, then move on. You will go to college and knock the cover off the ball (or knock the baton out of the conductor’s hand, choose your metaphor) and you will begin your adult life even if it means managing a call center by day and teaching a community choir at night.

It stinks but it is what it is. Good luck ..you are dealing with a lot right now but we are all rooting for you….
