NYU and USC come out tomorrow I believe. Hartt they said April 1st but I suspect it could be Friday.
Does anyone know when BoCo comes out? Any specific date? I auditioned at LA Unifieds
On the 26th (tomorrow), NYU will be 4pm EDT, USC is thought to be 3pm PST but could come out between 2:45-5pm (5:45-8p Eastern, so definitely after NYU).
My kid has USC, NYU (New Studio MT only), and BOCO left. Most interested in USC of those 3. They learned they want traditional college experience BFA at a big school, more comprehensive acting-first, has film/screen worked into the MT program. Applied to some acting programs, but ruled all of them out after accepted student visits, just wasnât âvibingâ w the acting students as much as the MT students at these schools. Also, visited a small school on a more rural area and was like ânope!â Sometimes you gotta visit a school you donât like and it rules out a bunch of others that are similar. Basically we are gonna totally ignore what these websites say are âTop 20â and just go on what feels right. I think my kid will be more successful if theyâre happy than if they follow some arbitrary ranking. Fortunately we have some good options, even if USC doesnât pan out.
For people hoping to get off the Marymount waitlist, I know of one slot that will be opening.
I thought Iâd repost here something that I posted on the non-MT page:
Getting off waitlists really depends on the school, and the program. Most programs oversubscribe â for example, making offers to 20 in the expectation of getting 12 â so it depends on that as well as when those 20 make their decision. So if College X makes 20 offers and gets a yes from 15 (meaning more than they intended), no one comes off the waitlist. But if they only get a yes from 10, then slots will open.
My guess is that weâll see some movement after the NYU decision comes out and kids start committing there, but then nothing until after May 1. And even then, many schools are never going to let you know that theyâre full up.
I donât mean to discourage anyone â our kiddo is on several WLs and would love to get off them! But I hope it helps put the WL conversation in context.
On a separate note, itâs my understanding that Northwestern also comes out tomorrow.
Anyone have extra insight on Umiami and cal arts (acting) programs? ![]()
Just heard from Binghamton!
totally on the same page here about the âtop 20â programs. i plan on committing to oberlin conservatory for MT very soon (i couldnât be more excited!!), and i legitimately didnât even know that they were starting an MT program six months ago! it was my audition (a very random, last-minute addition on behalf of my coaches at mtca) and the connections that i made with the faculty after that audition that told me everything that i needed to hear. and now iâm about to commit!!! you never know where youâll find your people until you actually find them! ![]()

if youâre feeling stuck or at a crossroads with possible schools and programs, trust that you will be able to recognize which of your options is best for you/your kid, no matter how many kids the program takes, how big the school is, how ârenownedâ the faculty are, etc. itâs what you put into the training that matters, not just who and what youâre given to work with!
hope that helps anyone that needed to hear it, and best of luck to everyone waiting on nyu/usc/hartt/etc!!
From what I understand (and could be wrong), but I think U Miami dissolved their BFA Acting program a little while ago, and now the BFA is just âComprehensive Musical Theatre.â They still have a Theatre BA. I listened to a podcast where the director said something along the lines of: âwe had both acting BFA and MT BFA and they were all super talented kids, but agents were scooping up MT and outcomes for acting were not as good. So we scrapped that, merged them, and now we have an actor-first, second, third, fourth, 100th MT program.â Itâs why the acceptance was confusing to people. Letter said âTheatre Arts BFA,â and thatâs MT b/c no more acting BFA.
Congratulations! So excited for you! I really do like that there is such variety in programs. Some people want conservatory, maybe small school, focused on training, super quiet. My kid didnât even apply to Oberlin. We eventually figured out that a small/quiet school is not their jam. Their top 4-5 now are all the high energy ârah-rahâ big school BFA, 25%+ gen-ed academic coursework, very traditional big school college experience. Then some want to be close enough to NYC to be auditioning for professional shows while in college/conservatory. Lots of options. Glad you found your program that fits you!
I totally should have been more specific. I meant acting just for cal arts. However, thank you so much for your reply! Super helpful ![]()
Iâm glad that school is doing that. There were a couple of schools that seem to very much support their MTs (especially with launching into careers), and then do much less for the Actors. I love to see a program that elevates both avenues of talent, or at least being upfront about it like Miami is.
Good luck to everyone today. As an alum of USC, if you get inâŠgo. You wonât regret it! Fight On!
NYU decisions are beginning to come outâŠ
Waitlisted to NYU NSB! I am so happy omg!
I got waitlisted as well! Iâm so excited!
My daughter was ACCEPTED to NYU BFA MT. Happy for her. The decision plot thickens!
She corrected meâŠnot BFA MT. Itâs the NSB âstudioâ. My apologiesâŠconfusing, I know.
Final correction (ugh): studio was not specified. Apparently, sheâll know that in June. Texting with my daughter is an arduous task sometimes. Congratulations to everyone headed to the Big Apple!! (still praying for USC).
This was my biggest annoyance with NYU. Unless you applied only to the MT studio, you donât know where theyâve placed you until after youâve made the deposit and turned down other offers. Iâve repeatedly heard that it all works out in the end and maybe Iâm just salty that my daughter was rejected, but I thought that part was very strange.
