Musical Theater College Admission 2025

Has anyone gotten info about NYU tisch drama waitlist?

Indiana.

Just heard of some movement on the Shenandoah waitlist too!

Really?! People got off today? I received word I will be hearing next week.

for MT? Like offers?

girls or boys?

Just one boy for MT that I know of. Although, admittedly, I don’t know of many others going through this process!! But it’s starting to move! I think a lot of waitlists are going to start to move in the next week. Fingers crossed for you!

Ok, thank you so much! and did he get off the waitlist for Shenandoah MT today?

Yes. That was my understanding

Thank you for the info!

hello again theatre team!! massive post below - just thought i would share an update on my process pertaining to financial aid that may be helpful to others in a similar situation. i didn’t know this kind of thing really happened until it happened to me!

last month, i got the call from oberlin MT, and i am so thankful to hopefully be calling it home sometime in the next two weeks!! still, it’s expensive as hell, so i wanted to appeal for some additional scholarship money before sealing the deal. i started collecting award letters from other schools and wrote up a nice letter for the appeals committee - but before i could send everything off, i got an unexpected email from the director of conservatory admissions at oberlin.

“Professor Vicky Bussert has been advocating on your behalf with the Office of Admissions to further demonstrate your talent, artistry, and her excitement for your potential in our music theater program. In light of this, I’m pleased to inform you that the Conservatory Admissions Appeals Committee has voted to increase your Conservatory Dean Scholarship Award
”

i was completely taken aback!! and even still i don’t know exactly what i did to make it happen in the first place. after my audition, the director and i stayed in touch about the program; i shared some of my upcoming projects; and i expressed my interest in coming to campus (after getting accepted). that was it! no talk of money, scholarships, or anything like that. word of mouth is truly enough to change things if you have someone to advocate for your artistry on the other side.

my point in sharing all of this is to say that it’s not over yet, even if the costs of attending your dream school are too high right now. if a program really wants you to be a member of their cohort, they will make an effort to support you however they are able to. trust me on that! again, best of luck to everyone that is still in the process of appealing for additional financial aid. you got this!!

Hi. I had stepped away from social media for awhile due to the stress. Syracuse ended up giving $10,000/yr merit and NYU had given $18,000/yr talent. But, they are still really expensive. She does have another acceptance with a great scholarship and is on one waitlist that we might pivot for.

Hey BFA MT Hopefuls & Incoming Students — We Made a Podcast for You!

Hi everyone! We’re the hosts of Show Biz Pod, and we wanted to share something we wish we had when we were auditioning, applying, and stepping into our BFA program and beyond.

We’re two real-life friends who met in our BFA program and now work professionally in theatre, TV, content creation, and more. On our podcast, we talk honestly about the financial side of what it’s really like to build a creative career everything from the day-to-day hustle to the bigger picture of making art your life.

So far, we’ve covered things like:

  • Planning your financial future as an artist
  • Taxes for actors
  • Business ownership for creatives
  • Side hustles that support your career

and so much more of the real-world stuff that isn’t always covered in your training.

Whether you’re a student starting this journey or a parent trying to understand what the road ahead looks like, we hope our conversations can be helpful, grounding, and maybe even a little comforting as you get ready to take the first steps of your journey as professional artists.

Break legs, class of 2029! We’re cheering you on!

NYU and Syracuse are definitely expensive schools, and while it’s great that she got scholarships, I know how they will barely make a dent in net costs.
Is she interested in/excited about the acceptance with the great scholarship - can I ask what school it’s for? This sounds like a great option if she likes school/vibe.
Does the waitlist school come with a good scholarship?

My grandson got accepted into USC MT program. I was looking at pictures of USC 2024 freshman MT students on Facebook. There were 10 girls and only one boy. Is that possibly correct to have just 1 boy out of 11?

I graduated about 7 years ago from my MT program - we started in freshman year with 8 women and 1 man. Sometimes that’s just the way the yield works out.

Yes. There are far more girls than boys who apply to MT, and boys tend to have more offers/options. Schools try to create balanced classes, but if boys choose to go elsewhere, they often end up with more girls in programs.

Thank you

Happy commit day to all! congratulations!!!
