hey all! one of my schools for callbacks is asking for a monologue “within the musical comedy vein”. because it’s common practice to use monologues from plays, i only have comedic pieces from plays. would those work? i have a hard time thinking they LITERALLY mean a comedic piece from a musical.
NYU Tisch doesnt do prescreens for their BFA Acting Studios, but Im auditioning for NYU Steinhardt, which is a musical theater vocal performance degree, and they do require prescreens.
update 30 dec: rejections from BoCo and UMich a downer for me because i imagined my life in those 2 the most, now all the pre-screens i passed are from schools i added just a week to the deadline because i was afraid of not having enough
You are brilliant for adding more schools, give yourself credit. It has no bearing on your talent, just not a fit this year. This is so hard but once you audition for your remaining schools it is easy to fall in love with the school that loves you back. Which, on the bright side, will likely be less money than either of those!
We booked flights super early from Singapore to the US and got great fares and then had to change everything to accommodate in-person auditions. It was too hard to try to do it virtually from here in the middle of the night. But, yes, this already stressful process definitely has an added layer of stress being across the world!
I hope you feel better soon and can finish your Pace prescreen. I hope everyone can stay well throughout this process which takes place in the heart of flu season! We just bought a portable steamer… it was recommended to us to have. MyPurMist has a $50 discount plus another 15% discount (code TZ23QP6X) right now.
No here, but C24 raised an interesting point to me last week: is no news bad news? My kid (who’s applied for Theater Arts performance core) pointed out that the BU website says that people who are invited to audition will hear by the first week in January – it doesn’t say everyone will be told their prescreen decision. So maybe they just won’t hear anything at all if they don’t pass the prescreen?
I’m not trying to be a downer; i promise (especially since my kid’s still waiting too). I’m just noting the ambiguity on the website.
