Nashville, the TV show

I didn’t recognize Kimberly Williams! I mean, I did, but I couldn’t figure out who she was. Mrs. Brad Paisley. :)

Or, as my D identifies Kimberly Williams - Annie Banks from one of her favorite childhood movies, Father of the Bride.
I’m just a little bit away from talking to the tv and telling Rayna not to be so loyal to Teddy, to go for Deacon and true love. They’ve got me where they want me!
I am enjoying how they are revealing Juliette as a broken soul, bit by bit.

Ds was saying, “Wake up! Wake up!” during the bed scene. He’s too smart!

IMO, the show is getting better each week as they weave in new layers to the characters. I was excited to learn I had correctly identified “the zoo” as real life Cheekwood. I hope they keep developing Juliette in the way we saw her last night. She was actually likeable, not just pitiable. I can’t wait to see Rayna and Juliette sing at the Ryman in 2 weeks.

I just watched this on the computer. Thought I’d check out the pilot. Watched one right after the other. Good clean fun. I’ve liked Britton since FNL, and had no idea she could sing. the LIndsay Lohan-ness of the Panateire (sp?) character’s story rings very true to me, as well.

My husband saw Clare Bowen who plays Scarlett in the bakery today. He is always seeing stars around town (while I’m at work)…

^^ That’s pretty cool. My daughter loves Scarlett. Can’t wait to see what develops next.

I know I’m ridiculously old-fashioned, but I like it that the football player told Juliette he would haven’t have sex until he was married. And he’s portrayed as a neat guy, not some weirdo! I also like how they are developing Juliette’s character - three-dimensionally.

If you live in or near Nashville and want to be in the show they are looking for unpaid extras to be an audience. Sounds like a lot of fun! This need is for Friday January 18, 2013. If I was a little closer I would be all over this! :D

That sounds like TONS of fun. I was an extra in a George Clooney movie once, and while I wouldn’t trade the experience for the world I don’t think I would ever do it again either… it was a pretty nightmare-ish day. THAT experiences sounds like fun, though, I’d do that in a heartbeat if I lived closer.

I am really bummed by the current Juliette plot. :frowning: I figured things were not going to go well after they got married but I had hoped it wouldn’t blow up this bad this fast.

I started watching the show on Hulu a week or so ago. I also knew Carolyn Khouri many years ago and am NOT a fan, so I’m watching it mostly because I really like Connie Britton, although Juliette’s character is becoming more interesting to watch.

What really struck me in the last couple of episodes was the *****ery and lack of kindness of the MIL. She knows about Juliette’s mother, so could she not cut this obviously wounded girl her a little slack and attempt to show her some kindness? Especially a person who prides herself on her church-going! What a horrible woman.

I’ll bring back this older thread to ask my Nashville question so we can continue the discussion over here and not hijack the other thread about a Nashville visit.

I have a question for you guys. I’ve watched the show from the beginning but I may have missed an episode or maybe I just missed part of one. But I read an article online that suggested that Deacon was the father of Rayna’s oldest daughter. When was this revealed? I’m sure I must have dozed off during that part or something because it’s not something I’d forget! And if it’s true, I assume her husband doesn’t know it, but does Deacon know it?

The paternity tidbit was disclosed in an episode where Rayna’s dad was “intimidating” Rayna and she was blown away and went and talked to Teddy, her husband who they showed knows he’s not the eldest daughter’s biological dad all along. Teddy then warns the father-in-law to back off and they actually show Rayna and Teddy united in wanting to protect their daughter. So it seems everyone (Rayna, Teddy, the Father, the Sister all know the “secret”). It appears the only one who doesn’t know the “truth” yet is Deacon, although, who knows? The story was buried in explaining why Rayna walked away from Deacon years ago - after too many of Deacon’s in/out rehab entrances, she was pregnant and turned to Teddy as a safe, secure good guy to build a family with because she couldn’t deal with the drama in her Deacon relationship.

Maine - I’m with you. Liked the “Tim Tebow” modeled character and thought there might be something to help Hayden’s character grow there, but they shifted gears so quickly on that storyline. Don’t even know if they wrapped it up with an annulment or divorce, but why’d they have to get rid of the character. Still think he could have helped mix things up on the show.

Thanks for both bumping this back up and for asking about Deacon being the father of one of Rayna’s kids. I must have missed that episode.

I thought this weeks show was a good one, but I was sad to see the brother killed off and wonder where they’re going to go with Scarlett and Gunner since they’ve FINALLY acknowledged their connection. Did Rayna or one of her peeps talk to them about a record deal, or was that put off?

Yes, I thought that Whitey (is that his name) had gone to them about signing on the label. I figured that was the foil to Avery’s contract that is going in the wrong direction.

I was surprised they killed off the brother so fast too. It’s like Juliette’s husband. Happened too fast. I wonder if they are doing lots of audience polling and when they see a storyline not getting a good connection they sever it quickly. I thought Gunner was going to somehow get wrapped up in trouble for helping out his brother.

I enjoyed this last episode with all that happened, including Rayna showing up at the party to sing to Deacon. I figured there’d be photos snapped of them together after the warnings to stay away until the media dies down.

Did anyone else think it was crazy for Juliette’s mom to be at a party in a bar without a handler right after rehab? Seriously, the counselor didn’t say anything??

Thanks for bringing back this thread. I think I saw it when it originally posted but didn’t want to read it since I had DVR’d the show and didn’t want to read the thread until I watched the show. I’m enjoying the show!

Glad to see there is a thread for my favorite new show this year. I’m not a country music fan, but the singing on this show is amazing! Loved Connie Britton when she was on Friday Night Lights.

We record it on our DVR, so we’re usually about a week behind watching it. Guess I shouldn’t look at the more recent posts until I’ve seen the show. I don’t want to ruin any surprises. For all of you fans, I highly recommend the Nashville Soundtrack CD.

Sahp2kids, thanks for the explanation about Deacon fathering the oldest daughter. I either missed that episode completely or wasn’t paying attention during that part. I’m going to look for a recap online and maybe rewatch that episode! If you happen to remember which episode it was, please post. It must have been one of the very earliest ones.

While Deacon’s relationship to Maddie was alluded to in an early episode, the confirmation came in an episode called “Be Careful of the Stones You Throw” when Rayna was gearing up for her tour and her dad was threatening her. Can you tell I have them all saved on my DVR? That made it easy to find the episode easily from reading the DVR summaries.

I still hate Lamar (Rayna’s dad), but he did show a decent side in the last episode as he supported Rayna.

Thanks, 2VU! Off to watch it now :).
