Nashville, the TV show

Yes, I loved that Will confronted the pageant girl about sabotaging Scarlet.

And, what will Rayna do when she then finds out that her daddy was responsible for her beloved mother’s death?

Do we really know that he is? That isn’t clear to me.

I thought the private detective Rayna’s sister hired made it clear he is at least lying about the events of the day of her death. But you are correct consolation it’s not conclusive yet.

I just re-watched parts of last week’s episode before deleting off the DVR. I thought it was the strongest episode musically this season. I’m liking where the story is heading for the most part, but hope they won’t do too much with Rayna and Liam. I’m never going to be happy until Rayna and Deacon are together for good.

I sure wish they’d concentrate on the storylines for the characters they’ve already established than add all the new folks for me to get all confused about! Last night - no ing

I told dh I felt like I was watching Glee, what with the stable boys bursting into song. I agree about deeper stories with fewer characters.

Was the singer who is after Rayna an actual country singer (the one who agreed to let Scarlet open for him)? He didn’t seem very comfortable acting, so guessing he was.

Scarlet’s voice is just odd. I know most people like it, but she sounds like she’s singing in a little girl voice all the time to me.

He is not. My dh asked me the same thing. I looked him up on imdb just to be sure. Because this is cc, I will note that he went to the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.

I love Scarlett’s voice but am not sure I’d like to listen a whole album of it. Like Allison Krause.

I still love it. I’m caught up after a few weeks of travel. I find Rayna totally believable as a country star.

I think Scarlett’s voice is more appealing when she’s singing upbeat songs, like the one she sang at the Opry the first time. On the slow songs, it’s something about her mouth – almost like she’s “chewing” the words. Really odd.

I know it was a “big hat” deal, the polo match, but did anyone else notice how Rayna’s hat was sooooo big, it seemed like she was tilting her head back the whole time when she was talking?

The polo match was supposed to be the Steeplechase, only more exclusive, since anyone can go to Steeplechase. The hats are the same, though.

Two things I loved about the whole polo scene: Juliette obviously got her hat idea from pictures of things like the latest Royal wedding, where fascinators were all the thing, and I loved the throwaway line she delivered to Charlie, “According to wikipedia, that horn means the game is about to start” or words to that effect. Meaning that she had looked it up in order to know what to do. Probably cruised the Daily Mail site for fashion tips while she was at it. (I must say, the polo matches I’ve been to, in CT and England, was significantly more low key, even though Princes Phillip and Charles and assorted maharajahs and lords were playing in some of them. No one was dressed up at all.)

I find Scarlet’s wide-eyed little country girl schtick rather tiresome.

Consolation, I laughed at loud at that line!

Yes it seemed like someone advised Juliette “afternoon wedding” attire for the polo match and that’s where she came up with the hat.

I think Hayden is great in this role and I like her singing a lot, yes the guitar playing grooms were a stretch but she makes it work. Wisely they don’t show Rayna singing around the house etc (which most every other character does).

Agree they are overdoing the innocence thing with Scarlett but I’m rooting for her and Avery now. (They went to college? together?)

The whole rotating couple thing is driving me a little crazy. I don’t know who to root for. :)

I think my current line-up is:

Rayna and Deacon
Scarlet and Avery
Gunnar and Will
Juliette and Charlie

I was surprised by the college thing, too. Scarlet’s hayseed act is SO overdone.

“Gunnar and Will”

Is Will the gay cowboy?

I thought this weeks epi was boring. More like a filler.

As for Scarlet - can’t stand her wispy voice and it’s even more annoying when she sings.

I think Scarlett’s singing voice is incredible. Not her fault the type of material they give her. The night she filled in for Avery when he walked out on his band she was great. If Rayna could sing like that I’d believe the character.

I think consolation is joking about Gunnar and Will. Although it would be fun to see Gunnar discover another side of himself.

I actually quite like Scarlet’s singing but find her character annoying. Do you think the word “chewing” might be because she is actually Australian and is struggling to pronounce the words?

Incidentally, I think the Rayna character is an awful actor - the worst on the show, barely knows her lines and sounds like she is reading. And I think Juliette is great - so into her character, snappy and smart. And yes, the line about Wikipedia was perfect.

I don’t shift gears very well. I want Rayna and Deacon and Gunnar and Scarlett and I want everybody else to GO AWAY! I am okay with Avery and Juliette, but the possibility of Avery and Scarlett getting back together and Gunnar with the waitress is REALLY UPSETTING ME! I find the lawyer girlfriend to be the most distasteful of the bunch-- she is boring.

I laughed out loud at quite a few parts of the last episode. I agree with others that the new storylines are not as interesting to me, but I did still enjoy the episode. I don’t think the waitress or the annoying lawyer will stick.

I really like Rayna. I was disappointed with her at the beginning of the show because I was expecting Rayna to show more “star power,” but I am not familiar with country music and I think I was looking for a “Beyonce” type where there shouldn’t have been one. I am getting the impression that country singers are a different kind of animal. I think Rayna shows a more dignified, quiet self assuredness that is appropriate for her character.
