That’s interesting. Connie Britton is regarded as one of the top actors on TV and most people (including me) adore her.

^^^ Me, too!!!

Me three. :D

And yes, I was joking about Gunnar and Will. I think Will actually has a lot of heat with the recording exec’s gay assistant with whom Will apparently has history.

I agree with that, too!

I agree about Will and assistant, too. I only give him a few more weeks of resisting.

Love Connie from FNL and think she is believable as Rayna ( although my preference would have been for Tammy Taylor and FNL to go on indefinitely). I did a double take at consolation’s Gunnar and will pairing, then laughed.

I like Avery more now, but do not want him with Scarlett. Gunnar belongs with Scarlett. Rayna with Deacon. Avery - maybe with Juliette, but not sure yet.

I love Lennon and Maisy Stella and wish they would sing every week.

I also, after not buying music for years, have become an iTunes crazed fanatic, downloading many of the songs each week. I think these tv shows are really on to something. Movies have had good music for years, but it seems like lately there are such good artists featured in tv shows. My other faves for discovering new music i like - FNL, Ally McBeal, Vampire Diaries, Reign.

I’m in the Rayna/Connie fan camp as well! I see her character as having risen and survived in a pretty tough business. I really thought they were going to continue to play up the contrast between her and Juliette’s styles and rise in the same industry. It was more like a real-life Faith Hill vs. Taylor Swift thing going on, I thought.

I agree that Hayden has brought a depth to Juliette that makes the pain that character feels from her past very true. She shows how her spunk got her to rise with her bubble gum country music.

I’ll be contrarian on the couples though and say that although I get that Rayna and Deacon have a past, I liked her and Teddy together before they shifted his character into some other land. I would’ve liked a bit more depth to how he and she built a marriage together from something tough.

As far as Deacon, instead of mixing him up with this boring lawyer so fast, why not bring back the vet he was seeing earlier?

I also think that Rayna’s sister (Candy?) would be fun paired with Juliette’s manager or the new studio head honcho, both respective business moguls and what not. I think that actress is trying to give her character some motivation but they’re not writing enough story for her.

I still liked Juliette with her temporary, blink and you missed him husband, the football player. I think there would have been a lot of story there with the mother-in-law, teen sister-in-law and society vs. her trailer park roots and insecurities.

As far as Gunnar, I didn’t like when they went all dark with the convict-brother and shooting. Still think there was some mystery there they left untouched and moved off to another story too fast.

The Will storyline also came out of no-where and just seems to be the plot-du-jour…a gay country singer trying to be in the closet and a heartthrob at the same time? really clich

I have to say that I think Hayden blows Connie out of the water on this show, even though I love Connie.

I love the idea of the sister–Tandy?–with Jeff the mogul. That had crossed my mind also. :)

I don’t think the gay country singer is a cliche at all. I can’t recall seeing anything like that before. I think the fact that he is a performer vs a song writer is also a good nuance. And his loyalty to Scarlet and willingness to call the contest girl on her sabotage was also good.

So, is Charlie Wentworth going to finance Rayna? Or Luke Wells? (Is that his name? The succesful hat guy who just showed up.)

It’s Luke Wheeler, I think. I am hoping it will be Luke and not Charlie… he is drama. Though after that kiss I guess Luke could be drama, too. It will be interesting to see what happens with Charlie now that his wife knows he is sleeping with Juliette… I am interested in seeing where they go with him even if I don’t want Rayna mixed up with him!

I like the idea of Rayna’s sister with Juliette’s manager or the new head honcho guy, that would be fun. I kind of like her and it would be nice to see more story with her… maybe they are prepping for that with her big secret, ratting Lamar out and hiding it from Rayna. That all has to blow up eventually.

I also agree that they moved on from Juliette’s marriage too fast… I was looking forward to seeing more of that storyline and it imploded pretty quickly. At the time I wanted to think that sense that the story had been cut off was intentional, like Juliette was never really committed to it anyway and as fast as she became interested in it she was over it and it was supposed to feel jarring because it said something about her-- but seeing more about Juliette’s character now I am kind of surprised she behaved the way she did in that storyline. She is at times a selfish bad person who does selfish bad person things, but I feel like there’s a lot more to her than that… So now I am just confused. Perhaps that’s intentional. I think Juliette is very confused about herself, too. I feel like when she does bad things she is trying to punish herself for feeling damaged, and then she acts like she doesn’t feel guilty to pretend she feels strong and confident in herself… but I think she does feel remorse.

I hope the writers meant for her to be this interesting and that I’m not just inventing it for myself!

It seems like they are adding a lot of depth to the Juliette character because Hayden is doing so well with it. I knew nothing of her before this show and I just love her. I even love her Cotton commercial that they play all the time during shows on Hulu (and which is her singing).

Connie just seemed a lot more comfortable in the Tammy Taylor role. I like that she’s not what I feared the show would make the character - stereotypical past-her-prime star holding on with her fingernails. I like the character, I just think they should have dealt with Connie’s lack of singing ability (not that she’s terrible, she’s just nowhere near anyone else on the show), rather than write around it.

The cowboy character is a clich

The way I look at it at this point is that they have thrown a lot of puzzle pieces out on the table. It will be interesting to see how they fit them together.

But I hope they stick with the pieces they have for now, rather than adding more! :)

. . . Nashville wasn’t on last night . . . because of the Country Music Awards??!!?? ;)

I’m in Charleston on business and met a guy who is good friends with the actress who played Juliette’s mother and was killed off. He said she had been trying to make it for years, and is now a celebrity in her hometown!

In other news, Mayor Teddy will be the grand Marshall of our annual Christmas parade in early December, along with our real mayor!

cgpm59 - It was neat to see the stars of the series in attendance at the CMAs since you can see how much Nashville the city is part of the cast of the show! In addition to having the actors for Deacon & Rayna presenting an award (cute play on her character and the category of female vocalist/album of the year)… spotted the ing

I like Mayor Teddy, even if he is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Anyone see his character on Suits?!

Just watched the new episode. What an ending!

I loved Juliette’s line: “I guess nice just isn’t my color.” :)

I also just realized that Rayna’s new man–who seems like a keeper–was Michael Swift on Smash. No wonder he can sing.

I loved that line, too! But hated the ending.

I like seeing Deacon with his dd.

I wasn’t expecting that ending at all!

Consolation–my thoughts exactly! I didn’t see the wife’s response coming. Now I’m wondering if they do this all the time (the couple)???

That’s Will Chase and he’s one of my favorite Broadway actors :)
