Do I dare get excited about Gunnar and Scarlett touring together!? I’M NOT SURE I CAN HELP MYSELF!

I actually think I like Juliette with the sleazy rich guy. He won me over when he fired “Santa.” The thing with the wife is just weird. I guess it’ll be interesting to see where that goes.

I wish they would quit having Rayna and Deacon sleep with other people and just let them be together. I think they could generate enough drama for Rayna with her fight to establish herself independent of Edgehill, her relationship with her father, and ( bound to happen) her relationship with her sister when she finds out Tandy gave her dad up to the feds. Deacon has issues to explore with his recovery, his new relationship with Maddie, and his new approach to music without the guitar. Their drama doesn’t always have to be about sex with other people. There are plenty of other characters who seem to fit into the sleep around mold like Juliette; although, I hope she ultimately ends up with Avery.
My real/secret worry with this show is that it might not get renewed and we might not get closure with Rayna and Deacon.

It was the delivery of the line “I guess nice just isn’t my color” that made it that much more. I think Hayden is awesome in this role, getting the mx of nice/nasty, and connecting with the audience so you want to root for her character.

That ending? Where could they go with that?! The point was simply for the shock factor and it worked.

Does anyone else think the writing choices on this show have gotten questionable? The harmonies among the various story arcs are always part of the pleasure of a show like this, but lately – and this week, worst of all – everyone has been doing exactly the same thing at exactly the same time in exactly the same direction. It’s no longer contrapuntal like a great bluegrass band; it’s more like synchronized swimming.

On the other hand, I still really love Buddy Miller’s song choices this season, and the constant love notes in the scripts to the actual process of songwriting as an activity equally important with performing.

I do like the show, but does anyone else HATE Scarlett? She is such a whiner and I’m not even too crazy about her voice…Everyone on the show fawns over her and I’m just not seeing it…

Youdon’tsay: In last night’s show, four characters tried to close the book on an old, lingering relationship and to recommit to a new one. One after another. Gunnar, Rayna and Deacon (separately), Avery. And, for that matter, Teddy, who is more in love with his new wife dead than when she was alive. You also had both Scarlett and Juliette talking about/showing the way in which performers get energy from their audiences.

azcatz: Yeah, Scarlett has been super-annoying all this season. Her constant ambivalence, her too-good-for-this-world space-cadet quality, and the high standard to which she holds everyone in her life except herself . . . yuck. That little nasal split tone she gets in her voice is pure old-school country, though. Her voice is great for the part.

Love the show except for scarlette. She has patience for deacon, but none for Gunnar. She was so level headed before but is turning into a basket case. LOVE Hayden p. and how she is playing this. Her character will rise again, probably on rayna’s label.

I’m so glad I still read this thread because I did not know that contrapuntal is the adjective form of counterpoint. Also glad it’s not counterpointy.

Shiloh–I’m thinking the same thing. Juliette will end up on Rayna’s label.

And I do like Juliette with Avery. Of course I’ve been a fan of Jonathan Jackson (Avery) since he was a little kid on GH. Kind of interesting that both Hayden Panitierre and Jonathan Jackson were on ABC soaps as little kids.

I like Scarlett and her singing voice. Her speaking voice is grating, but I like her as a character. The person who feel like so much dead weight right now is her former bff and Gunnar’s gf. They’ve done no character development on her at all.

I also want Juliette and Avery together. And sure, put Juliette on Rayna’s label. And Deacon, too.

I just don’t feel Rayna and Luke. He does nothing for me.

I can’t remember that character’s name either! (I could look it up, but why bother?) At one point during the last episode, I was watching her make some speech and thinking “Could she possibly be more bland?” She’s all shiny, of course – everyone on this show is gorgeous – but they haven’t developed any character for her yet. I assume the writers will get around to her sooner or later.

I need to see if Episode 15 has run yet. D1 told me one of her friends has a part in that episode. I’ve only watched the first episode this year, the rest are waiting on the dvr.
