For clarification, there are only three Yes/No columns on the spreadsheet from CB. The first I mentioned earlier. The second is entitled “Meets Evidence-based Reading/Writing?”. The third is “Meets Mathematics Curricular benchmark?”. The student I mentioned with SI of 174 and “Y” in the “National Merit Eligibility?” column also had “Y” in the other two Yes/No columns.
But if yes = national merit eligibility, wouldn’t that mean every eligible junior in that school got a 218 or greater? @ailinshl How likely it that at this school?
@rb681000 I was wondering that too. Doesn’t really make sense, even if the sample size was as small as one classroom.
It merely means eligibility to participate in the competition, not that they scored the required score to move on in the competition. E.g., US citizen.
I feel like this thread is like the Star Magazine of CC. No real content or truth, but very entertaining.
On the PSAT data layout, space 663 is just to the left of the score. It is designated as “Not Valid for National Merit” with possible responses Y=Yes, Blank=No. It is interesting that a “Yes” answer appears to mean that the student is NOT eligible for National Merit. Am I missing something?
Yeah, I saw that too. It’s rather odd to require an affirmation for negatively worded question. Perhaps they are testing themselves and all the teachers who use this!
Good luck to all of you who are taking the first New SAT tomorrow!
Praying for clarity of mind, recall, understanding, time management, that they will show what they know, that they won’t make silly mistakes, health, concentration, stamina, alertness, freedom from distraction and most of all, peace for my DD and all the other thousands of students taking the new SAT this morning.
Agreeing with you in prayer! Amen!
My DD, who took the SAT this morning, got an email from CB that said most of the scores from today’s test will be available on May 10th.
D3 got the same e-mail. She’s not going have any difficulty with the wait. Is so glad to be almost done with standardized testing. Just subject tests now.
I just had my son’s junior meeting with his GC this morning. Our school typically has had between 50-57 NFSF each year. I asked the GC where my son ranked and she told me that 52 students scored higher than my son. The school’s data seems to confirm that the FL cutoff should be around 215-217.
Thanks @Proudpatriot great anecdotal data!!!
@mom3eps What is this email people keep talking about?? Also I just got a mailing from Northeastern, too… Do you think it’s related to NM?
Agree very useful data from @Proudpatriot. It is evidence that cut-off scores will probably be higher than last year but not by a huge amount as with nhrp.
DS got a 217 this year but she is a sophomore so it doesn’t mean anything. If she get s 217 next year, will that likely be NMSF? Don’t really know how it all works yet.
No one really knows, but what state are you in? We can try to guess. You’d be a shoe-in in Wyoming or the Dakotas.
Check back in September when we will have a much better idea.
Thanks, @nw2this . We live MD, she goes to school in CT.
If your daughter is in boarding school, then she had to meet the highest cutoff, which is NJ and DC. It was 225 last year and likely will be 221 or 222 this year. @dowzerw
