I wish it was 207! I’m worried about the NJ projected cutoff of 221. I don’t want it to be 222!
@suzyQ7…I hear you!! I am worried about Texas being higher than a 221. My heart is beating out of my chest!!
@suzyQ7 . . . Agreed. My daughter has 221 in California . . . . that’s the high end of the Compass range,
This whole thing is such a wild ride with all the unknowns of the new test this year that if there weren’t scholarships involved I would so be ready to never think about this particular subject again.
I had felt the Florida would drop due the curriculum issues trying to adapt to FSA EOC for Algebra II last year. But if commended is really 209 and NHRP is really 204 for Florida then the 215 to 217 range may hold.
Ok…I had just put this subject to bed for awhile…and now I am anxious again. We are in Indiana…one of those middle states that might go really up…uggh.
Holy Cow 209!!! I think most predictions had 210 as pretty much worse case scenario.
Thanks @PicoLA for reaching out to Art at CompassPrep – Art provided good feedback! Hoping as he is suggesting that for states with the higher cut offs there won’t necessarily be an impact. He is saying CA 219-221 - so down 2 points at least from last year - hoping a point or 2 lower for the next tier of states - e.g. NY/TX/CT.
Question for all – Do students who get notified of being “commended” also get told they are out of the running - e.g would student with a 217 or so in CA/NJ possibly learn soon they are commended but not going to be NMSF? thanks!
No. You won’t know until September.
What does the NHRP cutoff for Texas and the 209 commended cutoff suggest about the Texas cutoffs?
I don’t believe anyone is notified that they are commended in the spring. Principals are sent a list of students who are at commended or higher and asked to verify their info. so that they might be able to advance in the competition. I thought that the first notification directly from NMSC came in Sept. Is that not correct?
While official notification won’t come until September, I would think commended being on the higher end of predictions would give a pretty solid indication that students with scores on the lower end of predictions in historically high scoring states should probably not count on making it.
September is a long way off.Think some the slueths on here will be able to gather enough info in the next couple months to get a decent feel for state cutoffs?
@CA1543 Down 2 points from last year in NJ would be 223. It better be a lot less than 2 points for the top numbers! 223 out of 228 would be ridiculous.
Why is 223 out of 228 ridiculous? They can scale it any way they want to.
@itsgettingreal17 …Exactly…what does that mean for Texas? We are at 221 and extremely nervous right now.
So if commended is 209, then how does a 215 sound for KY? I know that’s at/slightly higher than the estimates, but 6 points doesn’t seem like much of a difference. Or is it?
So just to be clear if you got a 209 or higher you are commended?
@Pickmen I would think yes.
@Pickmen - that is my understanding - the “cutoff” score is the lowest score that qualifies.So if 209 is cutoff for commended as reported (no reason to doubt that), then it is a commended score.
