So my S would need a 1530 to equal his score on the old sat? Yoiks!
@Sportsman88 there is a online converter in addition to the apps - same link
@snicks1234 a good reason for your S to quit while he’s ahead! Nice to be able to focus on other stuff!
@mamelot yes,but he took the old SAT two years ago in june so we felt it was best to take the new one also. It worked out well, we just recieved his score and his mom and I did a little happy dance. He got 1540. Very proud right now. He wants to take the ACT also because he has been homeschooled up to this point and he wants to give colleges as much to go on as possible, but since he has the two SAT scores, 4 SATII scores and will have 9 AP scores I’m thinking thats enough. Also he did this year and will do next at Stanford OHS and is making A’s so for where he may go that should suffice, but from some of the rejections I’ve read about of other very qualified students you never know.
Okay…based on the new SAT what do you think the NMSF confirming score will need to be. It was 1960…I think.
Congrats to your son @snicks1234! Smart kid, smart parents. Even with the best preparation sometimes it seems to be a crap shoot; however, he will get into somewhere spectacular with those academic stats. Good luck to him - is he shooting for Stanford?
D3 and parents are happy with her 1500. It concords to a 33 ACT and she already achieved a 34 last year. She did particularly well on Math so that will give her lots of options. She’s so glad to be done with all the standardized testing! Knocked off the subject tests on Saturday and finishes her last AP for the year tomorrow morning. She’ll be doing the happy dance tomorrow night!
My big question now is whether by sending her SAT along to NMSC today vs. in September I somehow jinx her chances for National Merit. Worried that they might lose it. Nah - being too paranoid. I think I need to go do some dishes or fold laundry or something to take my mind off the college process. So very excited for this kid.
@Tgirlfriend According to the concordance tables a 1960 on the 2400 old SAT equates to about a 1380-1385 on the new SAT. So maybe a 1385?
@snicks1234…if so then we are done taking standardized tests!! ^:)^
@Mamelot @Tgirlfriend congrats to you and your children. And thank you. As far as worrying about them losing her fantastic score they seem to be particularly attentive this year, due to the new SAT, but you never know. Still we are going ahead sending it in. One less thing to deal with as you said. A great big thank you for helping a newbie through this process. It can be stressful.lol! Now all we need do is wait till they do the Psat concordances so you mathmeticians can better get a handle on nmsf cutoffs.
How can that be possible? Isn’t the commended cutoff for this year a 209? How can the semifinalist cutoff be lower? @Tgirlfriend @snicks1234
It cannot. ^^^^
@Mamelot I went to the collegeboard site. Could you tell me how to send a report to NMSC by using their score reporting. When I went to add additional score for colleges and essay search it didnt recognize NMSC. Must be doing something wrong.
Historically the qualifying SAT score has been lower than the cut-off for the lowest states and the commended score.
And a big congratulations to those that are done with testing! D has an in-school SAT in October, but plans to take the June exam to bring math up a bit while her pre-calc is still fresh.
I am predicting she misses the state cut-off for NMSF by a point.
If I read correctly, they are saying the cutoff for SF is 1385. Isn’t the commended SSI 209 higher than this? @suzyQ7
1385? That’s not even a possible score.
FWIW, When I called the NMC earlier this year to see if a 1960 on the old test would still confirm the new PSAT, they told me that they were not sure what the new confirming score would be and the old confirming score (1960, although never specifically stated in words) may change. So take all of this speculation with a grain of salt. Ultimately, we will need to wait until fall when the NMC decides on the class of 2017 confirming score.
@itsgettingreal17 …we were talking about the confirming score you have to have for NMSF. Last year was 1960 out of 2400. It is different than the SI score. Does that make any sense?
The only thing we know is that commended is 209 and 1960 was the old qualifying score. NMS has to come up with what they feel is the new score. It will PROBABLY bee between 1380 and 1390 based on the old score, but who knows!
But 1385 is not a possible SAT score. The score would have to be 1380 or 1390. That’s my point.
