National Merit Cutoff Predictions Class of 2017

@snicks1234 I read somewhere in this thread that in previous years it was sent “bulk mail” - not first class. :((

@Tgirlfriend: “…have you gotten a letter already this year?”

@candjsdad: “If they make the cutoff…”

Sounds like a no. They were mailed late yesterday. Not going to get from Evanston to DC the next day.

The bulk mail comment might have come from me. We aren’t home schoolers, so I didn’t get the actual letter, but they took a wee bit longer than the “2-3” expected for first class. I think they were some different rating than first (can’t remember if a homeschooler actually confirmed that). They also appeared to be sent out in waves. For example, IL families, in NMS headquarters, got their letters fairly late in the rollout. I’m pretty sure the first letter received (just one reported) was that Saturday, with many updates the following Monday/Tuesday. Still, others not until later that second week after the alleged departure. (Class of 2015 year)

Correct, the first report came last year on the Saturday (Michigan homeschooler). Numerous other states reported on Monday (Ohio, KY, NY, Iowa, OK) and subsequent days.

@Tgirlfriend - No, nothing yet. I just want to think it through ahead of time. @Mamelot - I think it is the same letter. I got the Commended mailing and it was sent to “Attention: Principal.” I don’t think that public schools would have gotten anything different.

My info would be 2 years old (2014 mailings, for class of 2015), but that seems to solidify expectations. Hang in there, the end is in sight!!!

@StarboardLeeward …No I have not. We are not home school. It will go to our school then we wait!

Planning to harass the principal on Monday.

I guess states close to where mailed location will get the reports first, so midwest people should be checking first.

Even early states to report will be insightful for other states still waiting.

We are waiting patiently with a 211 in Alabama. Not very optimistic with a 209 cut-off.

im in alabama too!!!

Hang in there. Those cutoffs are really jagged on concordance and an old "207 yr " could get you there… Hoping as well 212 utah

Fingers crossed for both of our kids @RW1 !

Waiting and hoping with a 216 in CO… some sites say this is over and others say it’s under. I can hardly stand it!

For those of you who have been through this before, will the letter include the confirming SAT score needed?

No it won’t. The practice on CC has been to get people from different States to provide a score and keep track of the lowest announced as it was mentioned for each state (sometimes the group gets lucky and someone has a book with all the scores).

It will be much more complicated this year since the new scoring has no baseline from previous year and the commended score is much higher than all the scores from the past.

Theoretically, if the only information provided to semifinalists is the letter to the school, then the confirming SAT score must either be in that letter or is included in the online materials that the students gain access to.

Waiting in Texas with a 219.

in CA with 220.
